this is a general complaint about all the homeless shelters in chicago illinois and the type of abuse by the staff on the homeless people young and old and the lack up protection from the government and police.
The biggest problem in chicago illinois homeless shelters is the staff forcing public naked showering violating womens and mens privacy and sexually abusing every body and the secound biggest problem in chicago shelters is the poor nutrition and lack of food being served to all of us chicago homeless people women and men young and old ages 18 to 100 or more. us homeless never get milk with meals and we do not get snacks either and no lunch. breakfest and lunch is the only meals we homeless people get in chicago.
another thing which is the third problem in homeless shelters here is the staff and government make some of the homeless shelters into a program and treatment at the same time and some times are so abusive the staff do not let some people leave when they want to. it is bogus ###. for example the safe haven shelter on california and rosevelt ave force every one who lives all day long in the shelter to listen and watch dumb borring lectures that is made for dumb people and criminals. i was forced to listen to the crazy ### whinning of a woman being a speaker at a shelter talking about doing drugs was bad and got her locked up in psych wards and she said she was happy to be locked up and int he psych wards and that they helped her and stoped her from doing drugs ### thats is ###ed no one cares i hate listening to stupid ### that i can not relate to it's a waist of my time. i have never done drugs or alcahol and never did a crime but when us youth age 18 to 25 sit down at the dinner tables and eat before taking a shower and going to bed we are all forced to listen to this ### while we are trying to eat are food when most of us are starving and never get any hot nutrisish meals for lunch time at noon. this safe haven shelter was forcing on most of the homeless that stayed all day long to shower naked infront of every one with no swim suite on or anything covering their privates NO PRIVACY AT ALL! the paciphic garden mission homeless shelter is also really abusive and is forcing religion on every one who stays there overnight and eats the meals. which is violating americas freedom of religion and freedom of speech laws. and they are also forcing public nudity showering there to on every one women and men it is sick and descusting and there the staff and hoboes try to brainwash you and peer pressure you into standing naked infront of every one...if your smart you litrually have to run out of there screaming and calling the cops on the staff and brainwashed dumb homeless people sexually abusing/ sexually herrassing you to get away and stop them from making you bath naked infront of every one it is sad and gross and messed up. at the pacific garden mission the staff and homeless women after seeing women naked int he showers they bully eachother really bad about how ulgy or pretty their naked bodies are and whats wrong with eachothers bodies and make fun of you and lie and brainwash you being forced into bathing naked infront of the public is not sexual abuse and not being forced and they claim it is ok to force a female to be naked infront of other females adult or child just because they all have female privates...thats is immoral sexual offence and is a sex crime and is severly sexually abusive and they always brainwash you and tell you how to think about the public nudity showering and lie and say its not being forced it's just is part of the rules to take a shower and be clean. but no one gets clean because they are forced to be naked infront of every one for five minutes and they can't move their body and toutch their private to get clean cause it is traumatizing. and they staff make all the homeless women to stand inline and stare and watch every homeless women shower naked infront of them and they are forced to put soap all over their bodies and hair sssoooo it is damaging womens hairs. women cant wash their hair with shampoo every day cause it drys and damages a womans hair and can make your hair thin out and fall out and be dry.
the casa norte youth homeless shelter for guys and women ages 18 to 25 the staff only feed us fast food and chunk food every night and moring for dinner and breakfest. it's usually greesy pizza at night for dinner and in the morning there is no milk for cereal and we have to eat packet oatmeal which is fake prossessed oatmeal and has not protein in it at all and no vitamin d.
litrually you being homeless in chicago you will starve and get vitamin deficiencies and suffer and not fuction right.
the drop in centers do not stay open long enough for the poor young and old homeless people to stay warm out of the cold get food in their bellies and lay down and sleep from walking around all day for miles and being forced to wake up at 6:am every morning and being forced to stay awake tell midnight 12:AM it is crazy.
ill take pictures of the front entrance of shelters later. my point of this complaint is i want this abuse against the homeless to stop! TO MUCH NUDITY AND TO MUCH CHUNK FOOD AND FAST FOOD MAKE IT ALL STOP!
us homeless people need helathy food and meals every day three meals a day and we deserve respect from staff and have the right to not take a shower every night and have the right to wear are own clothes to bed and have the right to sleep in a shelter over night with out doing their program and or treatment. these rights are being severly violated. and WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO ARE PRIVACY AND RIGHT TO FREEDOM FROM SEXUAL ABUSE! AND PUBLIC NUDITY IS ILLEGAL AND IS A SEX CRIME! IM MAD AND IN PAIN THIS STUFF HURTS ME!
Sarahs circle 4750 n. sheridan rd. suite 220, soon to be moving to the 5th floor in the same building, is supposed to be an interim housing program that offers homeless women long term placement/ bed, for as long as needed, has informed clients that the housing that is currently 4 months, will be reduced to 3 months. the staff is highly unprofessional, there is reason to be that the donations and funding is being misappropriated. the clients are cooking, clients have been told by executive board members that they will not be hiring a cook, the clients are cooking intoxicated, burning foods that are then served to clients, currently they have 45-50 women clients and only 12 bowls and not enough cups, drinking cups and eating utensils, clients were told that they wont be purchasing any new dishes, to wash out a dish after another client uses it., sarahs circle is also suppose to be a food pantry and also to serve hot meals to any woman that comes in off the street for a meal, this doesn't happen. sarahs circle can afford to buy clients foods nutrious meals, instead they serve and cook the food from the food depository, which is often outdated, stale bread, expired milk and yogurts, molded fruit, withered lettuce, stale breakfast cereals, scorched soup, burnt sausage, the breakfast and lunch foods are prepared at the 4838 daytime center by lee, he should be fired,, the food is placed on a cart and rolled down the street to the women at 4750, when food donations come in, lee comes from the day center and chooses what he will take down the street to cook for the day time clients, gallons of milk have been carted down the street to the church, staff is taking home bags of groceries. fresh bags of sandwiches are kept refrigerated for 2-3 days, hardly ever served fresh, stored in a dirty refrigerator, then it tastes like its been sitting in a dirty refrigerator, refrigerators are not cleaned regularly or or properly inclusive of meat coolers, where fresh meats come in and are often spoiled once they are defrosted before cooking. foods are prepared by clients with no food handling knowledge, whom don't wash their hands or wear hair nets. new staff/ peggy has no people skills, has been given 2 positions, because of who she knows, not because of professional experience, she doesn't interract with clients, and walks around with unapproachable aire about herself, when the clients want to speak with her, she immediately says talk to your case manager, without even listening to what the issue is, she also makes this gasping /breathing sound in response to clients who approach her, when ever there is an issue regarding clients she also says to the client ' ask vickie' when new staff comes in she cant train them, she tells them to listen to and or watch vickie, this is how new staff is trained. imagine that, while she gets a whole pay check! peggy, and the whole staff should have been gone when they got rid of sonntranette. except vickie, she runs sarahs circle, single handed. staff eats up clients foods that are often left over by groups who at times come in to prepare dishes or bring pre made bag lunches, foods which can be served as lunch for the next day. toiletries are rationed out, new underware, bras and clothing go to the daytime center, 4750 clients get whats left over, even used underware. clients are not being screened, before doing intake, clients are now being excepted as walk ins from the streets, this has allowed mentally ill women entry into a already stressful environment, with no professional staff to handle these clients, so, other clients whom already have issues are often left ill impacted by certain behaviors, that the mentally ill clients display, making this an unsafe, stressful community environment. staff are often not on the same page,, ive witnessed mentally ill female beat her self with her own fists while she screamed out to herself, leaving me traumatized. women who have already suffered beatings, domestic violence, shouldnt have to witness this. theyve started to ration out cleaning products. there are no real resources available to help a woman transition for betterment there is only 2 case managers to 50 clients, leaving both case managers with 25 clients each. thats an over load, currently one of the case managers will be leaving, and until someone else is hired, there will only be 1 case manager. peggy, came in the door changing rules without allowing herself to know how the rules that were already in place should be adjusted. its sad to say but sarahs circle has turned into, bo - zo circus. staff is not enforcing any of the rules that are in place, they dont don't address or resolve any issues because they dont how to deal with the clients. so this keeps the environment uncomfortable. bed bug problems have been told that sarahs circle will not be paying to have an exterminator come out, the nets are out of control. having 50 clients the bus cards are 12 to each case manager for an entire month, thats 24 fare cards in total. how does this help 50 women to transition? sarahs circle can afford to purchase monthly fare cards to every client, having received a very large donation, and check/ donations in as much as 4, 000 that come in often. the staffs turn over is terrible, no one wants to stay employed here, no proper, professional training, and no reasonable pay. is the executive staff aware of this and other issues, do they care to know? clients sit and laugh and talk to themselves, come in high on methodone stand up dozing in other clients presence, get high in bathroom stalls, steal from other clients, clients have out bursts and show aggression, leaving some women afraid to be here, exchange and sale pills. mentally ill clients are not made to bathe, and go smelling in disgust, sitting in other clients environment. im certain ive left out a few things. but who really cares/ im just homeless and need a place to lay my head, I might be safer on the streets.
I understand this young persons concerns. I have not personally experience the part about showering in public or anything of that nature, but if it is happening someone should be arrested. I currently reside at a safe haven south with my children. Nutritious meals are a joke, we do not receive real milk, it's powered, fresh fruits, it's canned, or fresh veggies, it's canned. We are talked to like drug addicts and criminals by staff, uneducated drugs addicts and criminals. The rules are contradictory. We went two months with a broken bathroom. We complained about the cold so they turned the heat on hell, I'm pretty sure it's over 90 degrees in the sleeping rooms. People are experiencing nose bleeds and trouble breathing. When we complained about the heat, we were told it would be completely turn off if we continue to complain, no middle ground. The staff are certified in sanitation and cooking procedures, yet the residents handle the cooking without proper training and irregardless of cooking skills. People say make the homeless uncomfortable, so they will not want to be homeless. Please tell me, Who WANT to be homeless? Who is proud to be homeless? Animals are treated with care when their taken off the streets, why aren't humans. But its a puzzling situation, because the shelters this young person mentioned, as well as the one I currently reside in are in urban communities, could these issues be related to location. The people served, minorities. Just want to mention, I'm educated and have a career, experiencing an economical downturn due to financial illiteracy and bad luck. I want to get out of here, I'm ready to get out of here. But even when I leave and no longer need these people there are others here and they don't have a voice. This will haunt me until changes are made in the conditions and treatment of homeless people in shelters. Where are the Standards of Care? Where are the Standards of Operational Procedures? Where are the Basic Human Rights to people who are down on their luck?
