My husband and I had our membership revoked by Michael Maron, CEO of Holy Name Hospital because we wrote a letter expressing outrage that the general manager had been replaced. As one of the Virginia Tech families to loose a loved one, we depended on the HNH Fitness staff for their unwavering support and comfort, especially the GM. When this situation occurred, we contacted his office and the board of directors letting them know that joining the gym was on the recommendation of my primary care physician because of my disability retirement and Social Security Disabled status. We further requested copies of the policies on revocation and how someone can unilaterally decide . The response from Michael Maron, in his letter informing us of the termination, suggested that we lacked Judeo Christian ethics and further inferred that our remaining members would be toxic to the other members. To date we have not received the requested policies and have been completely ignored by all parties that have been contacted. The ACLU has suggested that we contact venues such as yours to get the word out and to consult with the Open Public Records Act.

Our views were NOT shared with any members of the gym. There were sent in a letter to Michael Maron, CEO of Holy Name Hospital in an envelope marked "Personal". Because he disagreed with our assessment, he arbitrarily and capriciously revoked our membership without any prior communication or due process. Based on the advice of the ACLU and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, his actions were a violation of our first amendment rights of freedom of the press. This should clarify your misconceptions.

A letter was sent to the CEO marked Personal. No members of the gym were involved in any way nor was anyone else associated either with the gym or Holy Name Hospital. His letter of revocation was sent while we were on vacation. Michael Maron did not like our opinions and thus chose to unilaterally make the decision to terminate our membership without any due process. The ACLU and the Division of Consumer Affairs legal department would NOT be providing us with advice had there been any kind of an altercation, physical or verbal, at the fitness center. All substantiating documents have been provided to the respective consumer advocacy groups that we have contacted.
