We are extremely dissatisfied with the service we received from Geyer Verhurings Agency. Communication was inconsistent and unprofessional. Queries were ignored or delayed, and important information about the rental process was not properly explained and done by an inexperienced trainee agent. Which we were not been made aware of.
We are formally lodging a complaint against Geyer Verhurings Agency regarding their handling of the deposit and related charges of the Woodhill Manor 3, Pretorius Park deposit.
Deposit Disputes
On 19 September 2025, a deposit of R9,990.00 was paid to Geyers Verhurings. Upon vacating on 29 June 2026, the agency deducted:
R700.00 + R1,200.00 cancellation/advertisement fees deducted from the deposit on 8 July 2026, despite finding a new tenant prior to end of June 2026, as well as occupation taken by new tenant prior to 1 of July 2026.
Therefore, NOT leaving the owner nor Agency with any form of financial loss or predicament. Even though vacating the unit prior to the contractual 2-month clause, there was no inconvenience, nor loss of any kind to the agency nor owner.
Costs claimed to have been endured, R700+R1,200, was costs that the Agency, as a service provider, to the owner, would have endured even after the required 2-month notice period. Again, therefore not creating any additional costs to the agency nor owner. Also note that the service they claim is not contractually valid and should not have been penalized for “advertising costs.”R700.00 viewing fees. Particularly since a private individual/neighbour was tasked with the responsibility of accompanying prospective tenants. Personal contact details to do the viewings instead of the Agency. Again, the fee of R700 is an inaccurate cost deducted.
R6,800.00 for repainting the unit’s interior on 1 July 2026, supported only by the agency’s own invoice. Again, the cost deducted her is highly over prized as paint was also provided by tenant to contribute towards the repainting of the unit. Not even a copy of the slip for the purchase of the paint was made available.
Despite repeated requests (emails dated 4 July 2026 to 23 July 2026), we have not been provided with the original supplier invoice/proof of paint purchases), raising concerns about inflated or fabricated costs.
After these deductions, only R240.00 was refunded.
Country of complaint: South Africa
Claimed loss: R1,900.00Failure to provide unjustified advertising costs constitutes an unfair practice.Refund of unjustified deduction, particularly the R1,200.00 advertising fee.
Desired outcome: Refund of unjustified deduction, 1,200.00 advertising fee + R700.00 viewing fees.
