GentleGiantNews.com is a website whose sole purpose is to aid in lining the pockets of dog breeders and puppy mills. Their claim to notoriety is the incessant harassment of Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions (GG). GG works with animal shelters and rescues around the country every day to save the lives of thousands of large breed dogs. GG has never had a single violation at their facility and, although many false complaints have been filed by people motivated directly by GentleGiantNews creator, Barbara Laird, every single one of them has been found to be without merit.
The adoption fees received by GG are a fraction of what a breeder would receive for a pure bred dog. Hence, the source of the hostility. Many of the contributors to GentleGiantNews are in fact breeders or "puppy mills" who pose as unhappy adopters. Their agenda is to shut down GG over lost revenues. It has NOTHING to do with the dogs. It's simply about the money. They would rather the dogs be put down than adopted under market value.
If you go to GentleGiantNews there is a page that states “Read Stories From Actual Gentle Giants Adopters” and then it says again that “all of these stories are adoption experiences from actual Gentle Giants Adopters.” Yet in reality, most of these stories are fictions created by people who have never set a foot on GG property. They are simply regurgitating lies and false accusations told them by Barbara Laird. An example of this would be the story by a user called “BluesMomma” who states in her opening comment, “I have never had the misfortune of dealing with the GG and the Wards.” Yet, this story appears on a page represented as an “actual” Gentle Giants adopter. If you've never been there, you've never been an adopter. Sad.
That someone would seek to make a name for themselves by slandering and libeling successful people is a pathetic existence. A pitiful cry for attention. And Barbara Laird is just such a person. She admits on her own website that she is a liar and a cheater, but has made it her life's work to falsify and distort the truth about GG in hopes of bringing the rescue down. This is her life's work, to destroy a rescue that saves 20 to 30 new dogs each week, often spending thousands of dollars each week to transport them across the country to GG's facility, and then spending thousands of dollars more to provide them the very best health care. But while GG does all the above, this self-proclaimed "defender of GG's adopters" muses in her chatroom that she hopes to get an hourly part time, second job at a pet store while she waits for stardom by trying to destroy one of the best dog rescues, if not the best, big dog rescue in the world. If you go to the dictionary and look up with word "parasite" you'll see Barbara Laird's picture next to it.
The sad truth is Barbara's real targets are the dogs themselves. The only outcome from her actions would be thousands and thousands of wonderful animals facing the certainty of being put down with no hope of rescue.
If you're going to discredit someone, you must give reason to why you are a credible source. If you say these testimonies aren't honest ones, how can you make all these claims yourself without telling people why they should believe you? Do you live at GG? Have you seen every interaction? Unless you are one of the Ward's yourself I should suspect not, and if you are, then that is even more reason not to believe you.
As it stands now most people probably think you are just someone who had a good experience with them, and so you're totally gung-ho "I love them!"
Which is probably what you are.
In response to Emily's response: Emily the author of the original post is Burt Ward at Gentle Giant News. This is Burt's way of defending himself.

There is another post here on Complaintsboard.com that is filed against Gentle Giants Rescue.

Someone would have to feel pretty strongly that they were scammed to go through all the trouble that Gentle Giant News has gone through.
There is documentation from all sorts of sources - if they are "without merit" as stated, then they can be sued, but that hasn't happened with any degree of success.
Also, if one looks around, Gentle Giant News is NOT the only source of the negative information against Gentle Giant "Rescue"...
This post is too funny. It's obviously the owners who themselves slander the poor people that they have defrauded. GG is nothing more than a for profit puppy mill posing as a "rescue" and making tons of money off of that and their dog food. Their website states that it doubles the life of giant breed dogs? That in itself is proof that they are dishonest. Go to ANY vet and ask if a food will double your dogs life? This is from their petfinder dog listings: "We have developed an incredible feeding/care program that combined with our unique all natural Gentle Giants Dog Food has DOUBLED the average life span of giant breed dogs and SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED the average life span of small and medium breed dogs". The other big red flag that they are breeding is that no rescue has these kind of rare breeds to this extent or puppies available. And no rescue charges $900.00 for an adoption fee. They are greedy and making money hand over fist at the expense and abuse of animals.
Yep! It is VERY obvious it is the owners up to their same old tricks. They did this on YELP too. Posted fake good reviews. Give it up Burt, you are just a washed up former TV actor, trying to live off the backs of dogs and the many your fooled. You were a glorified back yard breeder in disguise of a rescue. Heck you got your Borzoi's out of TX from your friend and notorious breeder. None of the dogs on your property were ever fixed or separated. They bred, had pups that you lied about getting whole litters from shelters. Go crawl back in your hole!
This is a awful rescue. Stay away, it is nothing more than backyard breeder indiscriminately breeding dogs. They even have weird names for them. These dogs rarely are sterilized, socialized, and have multiple health issues. Tracy and Burt misrepresent dogs, only later the owner ends up with behavioral and health issues, some of which takes thousands to fix. They should be shut down. They food is also laughable, and the equivalent of Costco's generic brand. I am sure the vet is the unscrupulous one they use! The dogs are always filthy and malnourished! That is not a dog rescue, but a dog hell. They should be ashamed!
I am sad to hear about this I really believed that the non profit organization and rescue was real. Buy food save dogs. California is known for abused home less pets. I really believed them, I even bought there food to help pets. I see that if I keep.buying from.them than more pets get hurt I'm against that, I have 3 dogs that I deeply love and care for and I want other dogs to feel the sa.e love I gI've my dogs, it breaks my heart that gg is a fraud and abusers. To pets. No dog deserves thst treatment. I will never buy there food.
Don't believe what you hear. Gentle Giants is a good legitimate rescue. Have saved over 15, 000 dogs over the years. They are a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau and an approved rescue by the ASPCA. Have passed or exceeded requirements during their annual inspections for the past 14 years.
Nice try there Burt Ward! You are a washed up TV personality with a scam/ fake rescue. Go crawl back in your hole. Still trying to give yourself good write ups I see. Pfffft!
I recently learned about the controversy over Gentle Giants Rescue. I've been feeding my dogs Gentle Giants dog food for the last few years, but if the complaints against the rescue are true, I don't want to continue to support by buying the food. So I've been checking multiple sources trying to figure out the truth. The conclusion I've come to is, if the rescue is legitimate, why haven't they posted any photos from inside the rescue proving this? They have tons of pictures of rescue volunteers and county employees outside the gates, and pictures of doggy meet and greets with these volunteers and employees (PR), but no candid pictures of how they care for the dogs, where they live, etc. Wouldn't that be the easiest way to dispel these complaints as false, if they really are false? The Facebook page has more posts about Batman related public events than about the animals. While their official website does show how they feed the dogs and it looks clean and the dogs look happy, overall the majority of the website is *telling* us how wonderful they are, and not *showing*. There are pictures of the pools and lazy rivers they claim are for the dogs, but there isn't a single picture with the dogs actually playing in there. There is only a 5 or 10 second clip of the dogs outdoor playing area and you don't really get a close look at the dogs. It seems to me that if they really wanted to dispel these complaints, there could be more candid pictures and videos of the facilities (not just posed for PR) and perhaps video interviews with the county employees and volunteers.

It is almost a year after the last post here, and I am seeking the truth. If this is a puppy mill, has anyone told Ellen this? She is the reason I learned about the brand, (after she had Burt on her show), and why I have been buying their food.
What is going on here? I thought this was a legit business, but I have read too many negative reviews.
