We arrived as a self-transport to the ER after my husband tore his quad tendon when he slipped inside a boat. Check-in went smoothly and we waited as my husband's pain level was at a 9 out of 10. He had to keep his left leg completely straight to avoid even more pain. He was not able to walk because a complete tear of the quadriceps tendon is a disabling injury. It almost always requires surgery. He was taken back for some "tests" and I was told I had to wait in the waiting area. After 2 hours I walked up to RN Brandon to ask for an update. He advised me that they took x-rays and they are waiting on the Dr to read them. After another hour went by I asked another woman at check-in for an update and she told me I could call my husband. I advised her that I had his cell phone and she offered to take it to him so I could contact him. My husband received his phone and I immediately called him and asked for an update. He let me know that he has been sitting in a recliner for the last 3 hours, nobody has checked on him, there is no call button and he needs to use the restroom stat. I walked up and asked the woman to please get someone in to his room ASAP so he can use the restroom. She advised me that there is a bathroom right outside his "room". I immediately told her "He can't walk"! She advised that she will call his nurse. His nurse "Seth" came into his room and said "I heard you are having trouble walking". My husband told him he could not walk and Seth gave him a urinal to relieve himself. The entire time Seth was outside his curtained room, complaining non-stop about being short staffed and how he's taking care of 12 people on his own. Shift change came at 7pm and Seth advised the nurse taking over that "There is a guy in that room saying he can't walk but I don't know the back story". Where is the level of care? Why did he not get a MRI? They took an xray for broken bones which he did not have. Seth advised my husband that they don't do MRIs there and unless it's broken, there is nothing they can do. Seth told my husband they are putting him in a knee immobilizer, sending him home and to follow up with an ortho Dr tomorrow. This is a Level 1 trauma center? They don't do MRIs for a quad tendon tear? I asked the woman upfront at check in, if I could talk to someone in charge. She radioed Seth and asked if he could come talk to me and he quickly responded "I don't have time to talk to the wife". I understand they are busy but there is no reason someone needs to be hurried out of there without actually doing something for a patient.
Desired outcome: I want a follow-up call and to speak to someone in charge about this horrific care received from Seth
