My wife and I live in lovely Victoria, BC and one day we decided to purchase dining room, bedroom furniture and a recliner. After a considerable amount of researching and looking around, we decided to support our local business buying (Made In Canada)and the choice was Dodds Furniture. We were amused by their local advertising, wacky commercials, always starring Gordy Dodd himself, an aspiring, groping caricature and disputable pseudo-actor, always dressed up as a ludicrous Bollywood Westernized pitiful character.

All totaled we spent well more than 3, 500 and as you can imagine we expected nothing but the best. Well we were wrong. Things started off pretty well with the delivery of the dining room and bedroom which took only 6 weeks to deliver, its true we expected sooner delivery but we did not care much about the four weeks delay. We loved the furniture and it was in great condition. Later, after a couple of months, we bought a recliner from the same Dodds furniture shop lured by their aggressive commercials or rather driven by (Buy Canadian)local loyalty. We enjoyed the furniture and slowly but surely, shortly, after the warranty has expired. Out came the table, out came the chairs, and out came the bed. Needless to say, we were disappointed because no one bothered to warned us the furniture was such a poor quality. In addition, even more disappointing was the fact that the recliner mechanism was stuck and it became an armchair with cracked leather. When I asked Ms. April McLeod about Dodds guaranty of quality and reliability she replied rudely that the warranty expired after one year and that I was unreasonable claiming Dodds responsibility, since I paid only couple of CAN hundred for the recliner, namely, Dodds sells cheap products therefore expect trouble after a couple of months . Ms. April McLeod demanded that we should pay for the recliner repair based on their repairperson estimate or I have the choice to keep the recliner in the broken state. My concern is if this is a normal practice since I do not seem to be the only person this has happened to, than Gordy Dodd, the self proclaimed local advertizing hero, care less about us the local Victoria Customers and the money we paid for his crappy furniture.

If anyone is looking to buy (Made In Canada)products in Victoria BC, I would urge them to stay clear of Dodds furniture because your experience will be filled with lots of disappointment and frustrations. When you pay top dollar for something, you expect excellent service. There is something truly wrong with the way things are being presented and sold by this furniture store. If you are reading this review, please trust my opinion and shop elsewhere. I wrote this review because I would never want anyone else to spend the kind of money we did and have to deal with the problems we have encountered.

I purchased the Guardsman Furniture Protection Plan from Dodds re my furniture purchase.

In April my reclining chair was damaged and I submitted a claim to Guardsman which replied on a "DO NOT REPLY" email that my claim had been declined. It stated time element was to long? I don't know what that means. I contacted Don at the Nanaimo store who said he was going to pass my claim on to Guardsman.

Todate, after several emails I have been completely ignored with no replies from anyone.

Dodds guardsman insurance is a fraud, do not buy it.

I agree with the comment crappy so called Canadian furniture. I bought a reclining loveseat and sofa. After less than one year you could see two ridges where our legs and feet rested on the leg rest. Also where you sit is ridged. As for the reclining mechanism this broke. I took the handle apart and the cable had snapped. I phoned the store to find out what the warranty was on the mechanism and was told their tech person would phone me back. Three weeks later nothing, so much for customer service. We now have a reclining love seat that only one half reclines and looks like it is 20 years old after only 2 years and my wife and I are the only ones that use it and we both only weigh 180 pounds. I like other reviewers will never shop at Dodds again.

I have only positive things to say about Dodd's furniture. Over the years I have bought couch set, recliner. I've taken my friend and my exchange student there also. Between the three of us we have spent plenty and are very happy with the products and the service. I always go to the same sales person (Sylvia) who is absolutely wonderful. If I was to make one complaint I resent paying for delivery. I was in to buy a mattrress today but I just can't pay the delivery. Thanks all.

yes i agree with the quality of the furniture ! the mattress sunk in, the bed frame was poorly made, the couches started peeling not long after and we hardly used the couches !we bought thousands dollars worth !dont buy the warrenty from any store ! pile of bs !
