Westplex Builders review: Avoid. Avoid. Avoid! 2

Westplex was hired to remove and replace the roof on my two story house with an architectural, 110 MPH type Shingle. The owner said he stood behind a 5 year workmanship warranty. Duration of work was estimated at 1-2 days at most but actually took 4 days. Weather was not an issue. The tear off was a worrisome experience. Although they placed tarps on the ground to keep the yard from getting contaminated with nails and debris, they did not use enough care in the method they used to get the old material off the roof. There were several times when I thought the gutters were going to be ripped away from the home because there was so much debris piled up at the edge of the roof and they were just pushing it off.

In the end that didn’t happen but they did manage to crack a half dozen pieces of siding and scuffed twice that many because so much of it was hitting the side of the house on the way down. The screen on the patio door was also ruined/torn. Westplex did offer to repair the siding but at this point we were into day three and I just wanted them to finish the roof and leave. As for the scuffs all down the siding, whatever they used to remove those marks has left its own stain and I have not yet figured out how to remove it. I have tried power washing with siding cleaner and some other hand applied chemicals with no luck thus far.

Roof looked okay when they were finally finished but less than 30 days later some strong winds came though the subdivision (Westplex tells the BBB near hurricane force winds) and 3 shingles were blown off from the very top near the gable. I called Westplex and spoke to the owner and he said there had been sufficient time and warmth for the shingles to have sealed and was surprised as he said no other customers had called with this problem so he was going to call the roofers. I did not hear back for a week so I called back and was told that Westplex was not responsible for the damage and that he had no other customers call him about wind damage to their homes and because the roofers lived so far away they were unwilling to make the trip for the repair.

It was obvious to me that Westplex had no interest in standing behind any type of workmanship warranty, was not interested in investigating the issue first hand and had absolute and total disregard that I was concerned about an approaching snow event and my new roof that his company had just installed was now missing Shingles and Tar Paper exposing bare plywood to the elements. They just didn’t care. Mine was the only home that had lost Shingles in the immediate area. The age of the roofs on the homes surrounding mine varies in age from less than 2 months to 10 years. If these roofs withstood the wind, mine should have as well if the workmanship had been sufficient.

Westplex Bulders also did some work for me. The owner used a crew out of Springfield IL. Those guys were very professional. They did a great job. I had a friend of my brothers, which has been a roofer for over 30 years. After inspecting my roof he told me that everything looked perfect, and that they did a great job. I am very satisfied with the professionalism used in every aspect of the whole contract. I would recommend Westplex and the Roofers from Springfield to anyone, any day. I do not believe that your issues were from poor workmanship. I know several people that had work done and They were all happy. it is too bad that you went a posted what I believe to be a false statement about Westplex. But this is only a forum and there are always people complaining for one reason or another. So anyone wanting a roof completed please call Westplex Builders they will do you right. Dont pay attention to 1 guy that obviously is just out to try to make someone look bad...

I was one of the roofers that was on that roof the entire time. You failed to mention in your report that we also did another roof for yout. At which point we installed the shingles in the same manner and you had no issues with that roof. We did over 70 roofs this past year and have not had anyone else call back about shingles being blown off. There is a chance there could have been a few shingles that did not deal properly and that could be the cause of the shingles blowing off. Which would be a manufacture issue. I can assure you that every full shingle was properly nailed with 5 to 6 nails. I understand your complaint but I think there was more to look at than flat blame the craftsmanship. Yes, there was some siding damaged and my direct boss as well as the owner of westplex offered to pay for that as well as damaged screen door. You said that the screen door was already damaged so you was not concerned about it. Someone should have came and inspected it but if shingles do not deal properly they can blow off in even 40mph wind gusts. And at that point is not because of workmanship rather the blame would be placed on weather elements and a manufacturer issue.
