Peachtree 2014 and what they are not telling you.
After you purchase the program with payroll features it is mandatory you subscribe to a "Business Care" program
and the least expensive with payroll is $769.00 a year recurring and won't work without it.

I was a loyal customer of Simply Accounting for over 20 years but after 2015 they took away my payroll services and inactivated the automatic payroll functions such as payroll tax calculations I was beyond angry. I paid for that software, it was mine! After spending around $10, 000 with them that’s how their loyal customers got treated.

Even if I had subscribed to Sage 2016 it would not be supported now I would of had to upgrade AGAIN.

Shame on this outrageous company.

I will not be renewing and I will tell everyone I know to stay far away from sage and their criminal practices.

(BTW) I now use a program called WinTax Pro (check it out online) which cost approx. $140 yr for up to 50 employees for all my payroll needs, and its better then Sage’s 🙂

I have used sage accounting since they were called Bedford 123 and this last move on their part is ridiculous. I don't need their tech support nor do I need their help with tax calculations. If I don't give them more money, they will arrange for a program I purchase in good faith, to stop working? How can that be legitimate?

Hello,

I've been using Peachtree product for just about 16 years now, and actually do like it.
It is a great product that fits ( or used to ) my budget and provides me with sufficient amount of options for what we do.

Unfortunately, what they've done in the last few years falls short of theft.
I simply DO NOT understand why does it have to cost me $2, 400.00 a year for a "service plan" that I never use - and that does not even include payroll taxes. According to Sage, if i don't purchase the service plan the software will not function - software that I've paid for each year for the last 16 years.
I do not want to convert to a new platform, but at the same time can not afford their new and annoying pricing structure, which in my opinion is simply a ruthless way of terrorizing a customer.

We use Sage 50 Peachtree - My computer runs windows 8.1 and Sage 50 has compatibility issues with windows 8.1, they have a fix posted on their website, followed instructions, product still does not work. We have a tech support plan, I have held for 2 hours on two days and still can't get anyone to answer the phone, I emailed our sales rep and he tells me I should upgrade my tech support contract. I can't believe this company has such lousy customer service. If we treated customers the way they do, we would be out of business. I would not recommend paying for tech support, ...what good is paying for service if you can't get it when you need it.

Received my bill, upgraded support from Gold to Platinum, without checking with me first. I've also had the run around on the phone. I too will be switching to something else.

Yes this company needs to re-think their support programs. I too only have 3 employees and only need tax table information each year. The $1059.00 renewal notice really shocked me. Upgrade from DacEasy to Sage after 25 years of using a software program that they made obsolete. Was never informed of a Support and Maintenance agreement until the invoice was in my E-mail. Your right, when you call the phone gets transferred on and on and on...no one can answer your questions. I'm very frustrated! Looks like I will look for ways around this for my Payroll. Any suggestions?

Shame, Shame to Sage - I also have a very small company (3 employees including myself). Previously I struggled with the annual cost of subscribing to their tax service - in fact in 2012, I manually built my tax tables to avoid paying their fees. With their first mailing regarding the requirement to convert to their Sage Business Care plan I thought surely, many many Sage customers would revolt and Sage would re-think their strategy. No luck! I will continue to manually enter the withholding information for every paycheck I generate on a weekly basis. This whole situation has left a very bad taste in my mouth...apparently my 15+ years with this company (F/N/A Peachtree) is worthless...

My quote was $1205 from the "overseas support", then my "account rep" quoted $1050. I have the license for three users and just needed tax tables. Normally about $275 a year just went up to over a thousand. I don't need tech support, I don't need the annual software update, just the tax tables. I will spend the next 11 months finding a new software for 2015.

PEACHTREE should at least have allowed manual entries of tax tables. In a small company of a few employees it does not make sense to pay $769.00 for Payroll Service!
This is bordering on extortion and it is a shortsighted strategy that will lead to many accountants not recommending PEACHTREE accounting to their customers.

Bait and switch. Offered online bill pay when I went to upgrade, then didn't have it when the upgrade was completed. Wants me to convert all of the files back to an earlier version if I want a refund. Worst customer support I ever had to deal with. No one who answers a phone can answer a question. The calls go on and on with someone in the Philippines reading you a script over and over. The software runs slow, the support is non-existent. I have wasted over a day listening to their nonsense.

Do not buy this product. Do not upgrade an earlier version. I like how they say that some of the quotes weren't accurate, but they don't mention that it is tough ### for you if you believed them.

We understand your concerns and appreciate your feedback. Changes to our payroll services are designed to help customers comply with important tax issues in an effective and efficient way. With tax legislation changing more frequently and time between announcements of tax changes shrinking, the most accurate, timely and compliant way for Sage to deliver tax updates is for customers to be on the most current release of Sage 50 Accounting. The Sage Business Care program is an effective, convenient and affordable way to receive both tax updates and product upgrades.

It has come to our attention that some of the upgrade quotes sent to customers may not be accurate. If you have concerns about a quote you have received or you want to discuss your Sage Business Care plan, please call [protected].

I completely agree. It's a scam. They do tell you about it, but it's in small 8pt type at the bottom of their upgrade offer. Upgraders will be shocked when they try to run payroll.
