Like so many other people have been complaining about I have the same problem with my Bright Effect CF bulbs. When we built our current home and moved in 2 years ago we changed nearly 50% of the bulbs upon moving in and have continued to add more and more of these CF bulbs since then.
Problem now is about a year into there use, (we're empty nesters and live in the dark, so no these bulbs have very little use time on them)
Since then we have had 9 of them die for no reason, some of them actually started smoking! Other just started to fizzle and go out while they were in use. When is someone going to make this manufacturer stand behind the claims of 9 year warranty?
First of all, I stop keeping all the recepts because there were so many of them but more importantly!all the writing on them faded to nothing! Maybe they know that and figure if you actually kept and even know were you put them that the information will have faded so badly that they can simply say tuff!
Most people understand things go bad and nothing lasts forever BUT, a product that says they last 7-10yrs (depending on the bulb and maker) then dam it they should actually be capable of lasting that long. The cost of these bulbs is quite high and to have them blowing out all the time is an insult.
Especially with the US Govt. now pressing us all to use these bulbs maybe OBAMA WILL FUND ALL THE RETURNS TOO!

I have 3 way Bright Effects light in my lamps. I was sitting in the living room and the lamp started smoking and I ran and unplugged it and let it cool. I realized it was the bulb that went hay wire. l had to air the house out, because of the horrible smell it caused which made hurt to breath. When I removed the bulb, there was brown stuff coming out of the bulb and the twisting light portion was blackened. I am so glad I was home and that these bad bulbs didn't cause a fire. I still have the bulb if the manufacturer wants it back! Dangerous bulbs..
I put in a bright effects bulb in Feb of 2015 and it just burnt out today the first of Jan 2016. It's ridiculous the price I paid for these bulbs and they only lasted one year. I will never buy another bulb from this company again.
Bright effects bulb installed in table lamp, not enclosed in any way with no recessed socket. UL# 170906 (L13T). Luckily, we happened to be home when this bulb started to smoke, turn cherry red and looked like it was about to start fire. I'm sure it was part of a package of bulbs. I have checked every CFL in our house to remove and discard this brand. These bulbs are a safety hazard and I fail to understand why some gov't agency has not issued a recall and/or penalized the manufacturer..
I had a bright effects bulb burn out today and started smelling smoke and before we could get it taken out the bulb exploded and went everywhere! Not a bulb I would recommend! They don't last long and the customer service person I talked to said I wasn't in any danger because nothing is flammable in the bulb!
I was watching a movie last night at about 1 am because I couldn't sleep my light was on because I was too lazy to turn it off at the moment. The bright effects bulb started to flicker but I didn't think anything of it because it came back on, about 5 minutes later I started smelling a strong burning plastic kind of vinegar ammonia smell iv never smelled before. I noticed the bulb had burned out and there was smoke around the bulb so I turned it off and the smell was so strong I decided to take the bulb outside. I burnt my hand on the bulb because it was so hot and because I was breathing in the fumes I started feeling very sick and threw up and my eyes were burning. I called the company today and they were interrupting me and implying I was lying about what happened and assured me the bulbs are safe. These bulbs are VERY DANGEROUS I would recommend taking every bulb out of your house. I would like to go further with this because I see that there have been complaints since 2010 so 5 years and nothing has been done about it. If anybody knows the next step I can take please let me know
I went into my bedroom and light bulb was blinking. I left it on thinking it was ok . My 84 year old Mother who is on Oxgen started smelling something burning. I went around checking everything in a panic. Realized it was the light bulb. I had to open all windows and take my Mother out of the house . The smell was very toxic. I will be removing all bulbs from my house . Thank God my bedroom didn't catch on fire. Betty Burks
I have also had terrible luck with these bulbs purchased at Lowes. The bulbs last 1-2 months, then "pop" and / or smoke. The customer rep was very helpful and is sending 2 replacement bulbs. He told me that these bulbs cannot be used in an enclosed fixture, recessed lighting cans or any place where the base is above the bulb. They are only OK to use in a typical table lamp with the base down. I have had better luck with other brand CFLs and good luck with CREE LED bulbs.
Apparently, the way that you are treated by FEIT Electric, [protected]) depends on what "customer service" rep. that you wind up speaking to when you call. Yesterday, I called them because 1 of 3 CFLs in the package purchased from a local ACE hardware failed immediately upon 1st power being applied. Called the number on the package and got an immediate positive response. HOWEVER, when I called about a Bright Effects bulb purchased from Lowe's, I got the Rep From Hell on the line. The bulbs are claimed to last up to 9 years, BUT, they are only warranted for TWO years... and then, ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE receipt! Apparently, the number under the mercury warning indicates something about the date of manufacture.
This appears to be another example of the Al Gore types, cooking up a deal with unscrupulous manufacturers and politicians to hose the little guy. Eight $ for a light bulb for which the manufacturer is permitted to LIE about life expectancy and performance is nothing for the crooks, once the counter-balance with the kick-backs that come their way. They get the gold mine and we get the shaft!
Who do I contact when one of these light bulbs starts a fire in my bathroom only 8 days of it being screwed in? I cannot find a phone a number for this company! I'm pissed off and want reimbursement for my trashed bathroom.
Our bulb lasted for a few years but just tonight it started to smoke. Had been working fine! Started smelling burning plastic and eventually the smoke started rising. We don't think it might have been to much longer for it to maybe catch on fire or the tubing might have exploded and then the mercury in there may have caused issues! I see that most are calling for replacements but WHY would I want a replacement piece of crap! I don't want to run the risk of the next one actually catching on fire! NEVER buying this brand again! The picture is not our actual light bulb but an image of what it looked like from the burning!
I had a very similar incident this weekend. One of 4 bulbs in my ceiling fan fixtrure flickered and went out. I bought them less than 6 months ago and was very disappointed, but didn't think too much about it. Luckily, I remained in the bedroom because after about 5 minutes I started to smell burning plastic. Upon turning off the fixture and removing the bulb, I burned my hand because it was so hot and melted. Even after 15 minutes, the heat eminating from it was incredible. Had I not been in the bedroom when this occured, the bulb would have most probably melted and landed on my bed, and created a huge fire! These are DANGEROUS! I don't want to even think about whether the mercury in these create any type of toxic gases. I have left a VM on the customer service # above and hopefully they will return my call. I will be asking for a LED bulb instead of a CFL replacement.
Bought a two pack from Lowes. Both were dead in under one month. We will see if they honor the warranty. Sent an email request for replacements. I do plan to register a complaint with Lowes after reading about all the problems people are experiancing.
Same problem here, it doesn't seem to be limited to just Bright Effects on the brightness problem. I have
had some of these type bulbs that are brighter than others. Are they trying to take us back to the candlelight
days, I seem to have some strain looking at whatever I'm reading.
I just had a Brite Effects [protected] bulb fail exactly as described by "in the dark also", Brown goo and all. Called the same number [protected]) with the same result. A new bulb is "in the mail". The service rep said the bulb has a 2-year warranty.
This is not my first failed Feit Electric (Brite Effects) bulb. I have had 3-of-8 65W flood lamps fail. The company sent me free replacements for each bulb. One of the replacement bulbs immediately failed with flickering when first turned on. These are certainly not reliable bulbs. My advice is to call for a free replacement with every failure. Maybe if they get enough complaints, the product will be improved.
Less than 4 months ago, I purchased a pricey [protected] watt 3-way Brite Effects bulb. Suddenly it stopped working, and now there is some brown goo leaking from around the ballast area. I couldn't find a phone number to call, so I tried the number listed below [protected]). The customer service rep was very polite and efficient. He asked me to read some numbers from the light bulb and then asked me my address to send a replacement. I couldn't have asked for anything better than this. It actually took me longer to locate the receipt (in preparation for the phone call) than the entire transaction.
Our bright light started to smoke; luckily we were home. This is a very dangerous situation and certainly could have started a fire. I will contact company at the above mentioned phone number and see what type of results I have.
Bright Effect Bulbs are junk. I strugled toget Lowes to warranty any of them. They are dangerous and junk do not buy them
I forced Lowes to take some of my bulbs back as they had less than 200 hours and were fizzling out and smoking and dieing forno reason, they are junk
Lowes may not take them back, however, if you call the company, all they ask for is the serial number off the bulb and they will ship you a brand new bulb, no questions asked. I purchased 10 of these in September 2009. I have called the company each time a bulb has failed and they have replaced it for free, including shipping. Out of 10 bulbs purchased, all but two have failed and been replaced.
Bright Effects, now under new name FEIT ELECTRIC (customer service tel# [protected]), is trying to operate and continue to sell its lousy product to american public like a different entity. They don't stand behind their product and have become masters of the fine prints and hiden information. Lowes has to reconsider their relations with such a business partner and take care of its customers before they take their business elswhere, I already did. They have to learn to put their customers before anything else- no customers = no business.
Brights Effects light bulbs are junk. they burn out in 90 dayes. or less. Back to the old bulbs. PHILIP DEFOSSES SR FRANKLIN NH
Lowes won't take these lousy bulbs back for exchange if you don't have a receipt. DON'T BUY CFL's from Lowes if the brand is an in house Bright Effects!
