Dana point, California. I have a red 2001 dodge Dakota. The paint is faded on the top and now starting to fade on the hood and other places. It looks like the problem is with the clear coat. Is there recourse on this problem? It started shortly after the 3 year warranty ran out. I appreciate any info you have on this problem. I know I'm not alone noticing other Dakotas with same. Thanks, Ed

I have the same make as your Dakota. I started noticing about a year ago that I had a problem on the roof. It was just a little spot about 4 inches diameter. It looked like the paint was fading. Well here we are at the end of 2008 and it has made a stripe all the way from the back to the front of the vehicle and is now spreading over both doors at the top slowly making its way down. Looks like hell but I suppose unique as well. Worried about rust next. Good thing I am keeping it because I couldn't get a good price for the way it looks. I have checked on line for paint recalls on the Dakota, but of course couldn't find anything. It goes for inspection in March 2009 at the dealer. It will be interesting what they will have to say. Probably say the weather, blah-blah-blah! Maybe I will comment that I am driving around as advertisement for the Dakota. Have you written to Chrysler about the clear coat problem?
