We stayed at the Grand River Hotel for three nights. The elevator did not work properly the entire time. They finally put an out of order sign on it on the last day and said they would call the company. The first day the housekeeping staff made our bed and left some toiletries but did not leave towels. We called the desk and they said they would send some up but didn't. We had to leave and when we came back hours later, still no towels. We had to call again and still waited a couple of hours to get towels. The second day when we came back the housekeeper was in our room cleaning at 2:00 in the afternoon and we had to get in to get ready for a wedding. All up and down the entire hallway were carts and dirty linens/shower curtains just balled up against the walls. I have a photo. The last day checking out the housekeepers were using the only working elevator at the far end of the hall and my husband had the luggage cart full of our luggage as we were checking out and he couldn't get on the elevator for at least 10 minutes because they were in the elevator every time. They saw him standing there and got on in front of him and just left him there. We used the shuttle (van) the first evening and my husband told them the brakes were grinding (he is a mechanic). She said oh okay and we got dropped off and then picked up by the same van. The next night we had the shuttle take us to the wedding on the iconic blue bridge. Again, the same van with bad brakes, my husband again said the brakes were grinding. The girl said oh really, my car does that too! She then proceeded to take us to the wrong bridge and we had to direct her. A shuttle driver should know the local landmarks! When we called to get picked up, the same van with bad brakes came and was driven by the general manager, who also did not know where the reception venue was (a local venue that is very well known). We told him about the brakes and he said he just heard that. Finally, we were picked up in a shuttle bus from the reception but he proceeded to tell us that the other vehicle had bad brakes, like he didn't even recognize us from earlier. We did not use the restaurant because we were not going to pay extra for breakfast, which most hotels provide in the price, but heard there were several problems at the restaurant. We spoke to other wedding guests who had many issues with their rooms. The chairs in the lobby were torn. The bathroom door did not shut properly. Just not at all up to par for a "boutique" hotel. Very disappointed. We are choice hotel members. I am not even sure we got our points for the visit as the rooms were reserved as a block for wedding guests. Our card # is CXS98363.
