Owners Jim and Melissa advertise aggressively on eBay but their work is sloppy and their customer service is awful. BEWARE! If you skip past Carb Junkys' self-posted reviews, you'll find the truth on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/carb-junkys-atlanta

I needed a rebuild on a Rochester carburetor for my classic car. I found Atlanta, GA based Carb Junkys through an eBay ad and shipped them my carb for a $250 rebuild. WHAT A MISTAKE! Several weeks later I got the carb back and installed it. Immediately the car ran terribly, making a loud sucking sound at the carburetor. I called Carb Junkys and they gave me some troubleshooting tips -- but nothing worked. Frustrated, I finally took it to my local carburetor specialist. They took it apart and found parts mixed up (floats reversed) and some missing (idle speed screw, which explains the loud sucking sound). They ended up having to entirely rebuild the carburetor, which cost me another $250. Afterwards the car ran beautifully!

I contacted Jim and Melissa and informed them of the matter. They immediately got defensive, telling me the carburetor was bench tested. IMPOSSIBLE. They refused to take any kind of responsibility. Instead, they attacked and insulted me -- accusing me of being a fraud and scam artist. In an email from Melissa, "you have been scammed by your local carburetor shop." And another from Jim, "You are the
architect of your unfortunate experience."

Warning! Do not do business with Carb Junkys. Their workmanship is poor. And their customer service is terrible.

I agree completely! I emailed with Carb Junkies in early April to confirm my carburetor number. I then ordered the electric choke on May 19th for which I was asked to confirm my carb number. I sent the former communication as well as provided the number by phone. I was then asked in addition to type the carb number in the email by which I called back to clarify the confusion. I was then told I would then be unable to install the part given I could not understand the request. However, the staff could not simply provide a response as to why two prior responses did not suffice. I am greatly disappointed the company could not "talk" to me and instead insulted me. Exceptionally poor customer service due to making things personally insulting!

I tried to do business with Carb Junkys. Jim is incompetent and to say his wife has issues is an understatement.

These two are fraudulently posing as classic carb rebuilders when in fact Jim couldn't rebuild a single cylinder lawn mower carb. No mechanical skills. No social skills. Zero customer service. Their motto must be "Screw everyone, do the easy ones twice."

Once they have your 3 or four hundred of your hard earned bucks, you get your carb back, externally cleaned but often literally missing items and improperly assembled. Claims of testing are bogus. Hiding behind self posted false reviews with God Bless you responses from Melissa will only keep these two frauds out of prison for so long. Do not waste your hard earned money here. Spend it at Walmart on a bag of cow manure, at least you can use that crap for fertilizer.

You get a junk carb back and then the finger pointing begins. You are dumb. Your A.S.E. Certified mechanic is stupid. Never are they responsible. They do not so the right thing. It is always soething else the matte with the car.

Jim and Melissa are crooks, not carb rebuilders.

Carb Junkys may be there most dishonest business I've EVER dealt with. I sent a pair of Holleys to them and when I got them back and installed them, they were terrible.

All I can say is avoid these people! Melissa is a rude woman who clearly has issues. Her husband Jim, who was supposed to do the work, is not competent. It's IMPOSSIBLE that they tested my carbs like they claimed.

AVOID THESE SCAMMERS!

yeah, Melissa was rude to me the first time I called to begin with them. on top of it, they got my order confused with someone else, and sent me the wrong carb kit. luckily I had an email that proved they mixed me up. they did send the right kit, but a carb kit is not something you can "do", then "undo" easily. give me the right kit, especially when you have the exact information, or don't waste my time.

When you go beyond the fancy web page and the promise of exceeding your expectations, there is a dark side to this company to beware of. This is a copy of my last and unanswered e-mail that summarizes my experience with Carb Junkies.

Melissa,
Thank you for your reply; I’m not going to drag this out longer than necessary. But firstly I’d like to make a couple of comments. Throughout this process I have communicated and documented what I was doing as far as testing and repeatedly asked for advice. After I returned the carburetor last time, Jim called to say the he had discovered some packaging material in the carburetor that was causing the problem, but now it was fine. When I reinstalled it on my car, the carburetor continued to malfunction as described previously.
With regard to your bad press on the internet I would prefer to form my own opinion. However, after my last conversation with Jim when I asked him what would he suggest I try next? he went into a total rant, repeatedly calling me stupid, an idiot, a liar and then tried to twist my works to say that I was calling him a liar. When I said I would like to come to your shop and see the carb run on your crate engine it sounded like he was threatening me if I did so. The final straw was when he started ridiculing me because I had mentioned to him in a previous conversation that I had recently undergone surgery for cancer. I’m not imagining this, I put Jim on speaker phone and my wife also heard his insulting comments. So do I believe what people have written on the internet? yes I do. Especially since the language reported was quite similar to the out of control raving that I listened to until I knew I was wasting my time.
Now let’s discuss trust and being treated fairly. When we started this process you insisted that I send you a check for payment in full before you would even send me a photograph of what I was buying. From my standpoint I had significant reservations in doing this especially reading about the complaints on the internet, but I did. Now under the current set of circumstance, would I return the carb to you so that you have my money and the carburetor and trust that you will treat me fairly? I don’t think so, especially when you are saying you have a customer waiting to purchase it.
As far as being financially penalized in restoring the carburetor to a fresh and functioning condition. If the carburetor had been delivered to me to start with this way, we would not be in this situation. Remember the poor coating that I photographed and sent you? When Jim accused me of spilling Coca Cola on it and put the phone down on me should have been a warning sign of things to follow. The carburetor malfunctioned out of the box and continues to do so, as detailed in my numerous reports and requests for assistance.
So let’s do this in reverse, you send me a check for $600.00 and I’ll forward to you current photographs. When you have had a chance to review the photographs, I’ll deposit your check, when it’s cleared the bank, I’ll return the carburetor to you promptly via UPS.

This is a very long story in reality, but I'll keep it as short as possible. Carb Junky's is the absolute WORST business I have ever worked with. My Holley carb needed service. I spoke with Melissa who agreed to have it fully serviced up to the amount necessary. They would not allow me to drop it at their shop, which I actually think doesn't exist...more likely their own basement or garage, but I met with her at another location. I got it back a few days later, and no repairs were made. Adjustments were made that made it run worse, but Jim (the man who worked on it) later admitted he didn't even open the carb. They claim to have run it at 600 RPM's on a 355 crate motor. It would not so much as idle on my 305, even while adjusting it with a vacuum gauge. Another carb off the shelf allowed the motor to run perfectly. I asked Melissa and Jim to take another look, but they refused. I kept persisting, and they reluctantly agreed, but Jim called back within a few hours to tell me this...that I am a liar, that I accused them of fraud, that I am an idiot, and that I can quote, "shove the carburetor up my $@%!" The irony of all this is their website states at the very top, "Personable and trustworthy, Carb Junkys are the detail oriented carburetor restoration specialists committed to exceed your expectations." On the same page they warrant their repairs for 90 days. My complaint was immediate. I spent $75 for a gasket, vacuum gauge, and supposed service, so it's not the end of the world; but business people like this don't deserve to be licensed. In the end, they lied to me, insulted me, slandered 2 other businesses (not mentioned), and they also illegally evaded sales tax; but that's not really my issue. Hopefully the government will catch up with them on that. I WARN YOU WITH ALL SINCERITY: TRUST ANY POSITIVE REVIEWS AT YOUR OWN RISK. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CARB JUNKY'S. YOU WILL REGRET EVERY PENNY AND EVERY MINUTE. THEY ARE, INDEED, FRAUDS!
