Be cautious of scammers selling Canyon and other high-end bicycles online at suspiciously low prices. I recently encountered an ad for a Canyon bike on bikeflip.com, which had also been listed on buycycle.com before the ad was deactivated. After messaging the seller, I was instructed to contact them via WhatsApp for more information, a common red flag in online scams.

Having dealt with similar scams before, I decided to gather as much information as possible to warn fellow cyclists. The scammer provided the phone number +33 7 64 08 53 44 and sent me a series of photos of the Canyon bike, along with a fake invoice and a poorly Photoshopped ID. The scammer insisted I make a direct payment instead of using a third-party platform for the transaction.

To add more credibility, they claimed I would be contacted directly by Canyon for the sale. Shortly after, I received two fake emails from support@canyon.eu.com (note the fraudulent domain).

Here are the details from the fake invoice they sent:

Recipient: Canyon
Address: Corso Giacomo Matteotti, 10, Milano 20121
Bank: Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (BBVA)
Bank Account Number: 010004556308
IBAN: IT96 W035 7601 6010 1000 4556 308
BIC: BBVAITMMXXX
Payment Reference: 9402831312; 93832707

For reference, I will attach additional fake PDF documents related to this scam in the official complaint.

Please be vigilant and avoid falling for these types of scams, no matter how tempting the deal may seem. Always use trusted third-party platforms for secure transactions. Stay safe and enjoy your ride!

Country of complaint: Italy

Desired outcome: The goal is to raise awareness of bicycle scams, helping buyers avoid fraud. We hope platforms like bikeflip.com and buycycle.com enhance seller screening to prevent scams and protect future buyers.

It’s great that you’re raising awareness about these types of scams targeting cyclists, especially with such detailed information. The red flags, like being asked to communicate via WhatsApp and the fake emails from a fraudulent domain, are classic indicators. The effort these scammers go to, including Photoshopped IDs and fake invoices, makes it even trickier for unsuspecting buyers.

Sharing the fake invoice details and alerting fellow cyclists to use trusted third-party platforms is important advice. Hopefully, this helps others avoid falling victim to such schemes, and it’s good to see you’re taking the right steps by reporting and documenting everything. Stay vigilant!
