Late August I had sprained my ankle and was on crutches and had to wear a boot. I was prescribed a non-narcotic medication named meloxicam. I had severe swelling and needed this medication for this injury. When I called to check on the status of the medication, I was told a few different stories by three different technicians and then I spoke with Karla. She accused me of” filing a complaint that went to all of her bosses and she said, “if she and the rest of them are so terrible I can go somewhere else.” (I’m guessing she is referring to the technicians) I told her she can’t just kick me out, she said, “yes, I can and that’s that I’m doing and hung up on me. The next day, Saturday August an email from Robert Broulim was in my in box asking me to call him. I called the phone number that was given to me in the email. Robert first asked me how he could help? Before I could speak, he interrupted me and said, ‘they will do what I tell them too.’ I told him I need a pharmacy. I was unable to describe my side of the situation as he went on about how Karla fears me because I yelled at her, I asked him when have I yelled at her? He was unable to tell me dates or times or the reason I was yelling. I can remember when I’ve been yelled at or at least the reason. He then asked if he could get the head manager of the pharmacies on the phone for this conversation. He was unable to reach this manager at that time but promised me two separate times through text and email, (see attached) he wasn’t ignoring me. Almost two hours went by and Marcus calls he doesn’t identify himself as a pharmacist or a technician, he just told me his name and he works for Robert Broulim. Later I found out he just oversees the protocol and procedures of fourteen pharmacies for Broulims. He starts with supply errors that the Pharmacy has. They are only allowed to get so much medication delivered and they are sometimes unable to fill certain medications because the DEA has cutbacks. My thought and questions were, “why does all of the other Broulims pharmacies have the medication,” Also, the decision has been made that you are no longer a patient at Broulim. Marcus accused me of being abusive towards the staff, He even mentioned my dad was too! When Marcus mentioned this, I didn’t understand because my dad hasn’t felt well after the loss of his only son and oldest daughter. My dad hasn’t been inside of a Broulims except maybe twice since June of 2020. I remember this because my brother died in June of 2020. Even if my dad had a dispute with Karla at the pharmacy how is that my problem or in my control? I’m unable to speak for my dad’s actions as I’m not his mother nor should I be responsible for his behavior as he can’t be held responsible for mine. I asked Marcus when these alleged arguments happened, and he didn’t know. I also asked Marcus about my grievance complaint, and he did not care and laughed at me! I asked three times for confirmation that the decision was made that I could no longer fill prescriptions at Broulims. I found out later this applies to everyone in my family. My kids, my mother and my dad.

I have severe depression and anxiety and have been on medication to treat the diagnosis for many years. The ankle sprain was recent, and I was refused healthcare by the pharmacist to treat the injury. At that time, I was on crutches and in pain wanting to heal and control the swelling and pain of my ankle. My Ankle did not heal as fast as it should have if I had received this medication and proper care. I had to wait over the weekend to have the nurse forward the prescription to another pharmacy and somehow go down and pick it up. I was also forced to wait on refilling my monthly medication needed for anxiety and depression for over a week because Karla would not send my refills to another pharmacy, and she wasn’t going to fill them and trying to get ahold of a nurse at the Driggs Clinic is difficult. Because I wasn’t taking my medication to help treat my depression, anxiety and ADHD I missed doses which in turn made it harder for me to function and I missed Doctor appointments and meetings with my daughter’s teachers regarding her development. I was sick vomiting and had a high heart rate. I didn’t receive my refill for treating my ankle and everything else for over a week. Karla’s accusation and unprofessional behavior has affected my daily life and health. She has neglected to provide care and treatment for me. Karla retaliated over a grievance complaint that everyone has the option to do without being retaliated against. Broulims company policy states any feedback, negative or positive, will be handled with discretion and is confidential. It is apparent to me the grievance complaint held merit and is exactly how we have been treated by the Pharmacist and Technicians at Broulims. The grievance complaint was signed from a loyal customer.

The technicians don’t provide accurate information on prescriptions. They are not qualified to consult on any medication without the pharmacists monitoring them. Confidential information can be overheard through the phone and drive through. On several different occasions I could hear laughter from behind the counter of the pharmacy when being told they couldn’t fill medications for me and the remarks that they have enough for a full or partial fill of my medication, but they are saving it for other patients. The technicians and pharmacists lower the level of care I receive. Someone else has more right to a refill than I do or my family. The technicians don’t provide accurate information on prescriptions. They are not qualified to consult on any medication without the pharmacists monitoring them. Confidential information can be overheard through the phone and drive through.

I requested my pharmacy records in writing to Robert Broulim 8- 2023 and to Karla over the phone. I have not received them as of today 9/18/2023. I live an hour from the nearest pharmacy and Karla is aware of this, as she has taken confidential conversations between her and I regarding my sister’s death and has aired them to Sally the pharmacist and owner of Corner Drug. Corner Drug won’t fill any medication for me or my family, and honestly the only reason I can think of is the breech of patient and healthcare professional confidentiality. I have not spoken to Sally at Corner drug. This will apply later in this document. (Another complaint)

My mom called the pharmacy, (Broulims) to refill her needed pain management medication as she does every month and has done so for over 20 years. The pharmacy initially told her no pharmacy can get this medication in and we don’t know what to tell ya. My mom called her Doctor and he decided to call in a substitute for the pain medication until the pharmacy is able to get their supply in. When my mom called to check if it was ready to pick up the technicians and pharmacist at Broulims laughed and said, “WE HAVE THE SUBSITUTION, BUT WON’T FILL IT FOR YOU BECAUSE WE NEED IT FOR OTHER OUR PATIENTS.” Not only is that out of line and rude, but unprofessional! The substitution was written out for just a couple of days until Broulim’s could fill it. I made a call to Corner Drug and I spoke to Nick the pharmacist there about filling my mom’s pain medication. I explained why and he seemed to know all about it which makes me wonder why Broulims just didn’t get it from them and dispensed it to my mother. The two pharmacies have done this in the past and it would seem logical at this point. This was an emergency as my mom had gone over a week without her needed pain management medication and was starting to show the signs of withdrawal. Nick double checked their supply and he agreed to fill the prescription for her no problem. Later that afternoon (too late to fix anything) my mom receives a phone call from a Nick the pharmacist at Corner Drug regretfully telling her he is unable to fill her prescription because Sally Owner and Pharmacist said she would not or never will do business with my mom or anyone else in our family ever. When asked why, my mom was told Sally won’t discuss it.

Being a patient relying on and trusting the pharmacist to abide by their moral, ethical, and sworn duty to treat and help everyone that is seeking treatment and not receiving it is negligent, discrimination, fraud and malpractice. This happened 8/25/2023

My mom decided to call Broulims again in hopes they received there shipment for her pain medication the following Monday morning and was told that she could no longer fill her medication at Broulims. They did not tell her why. This policy is not just for Driggs Pharmacy, it's enforced at all fourteen of their pharmacies and for my entire family. My three kids, two of which need their medication on a regular basis, and they have been on the same medication since the age of One. My mom a 75-year-old woman with pulmonary and Heart failure must drive an hour to the nearest pharmacy for her medication. My dad is disabled. He was in a traffic accident while on duty for LASD. My mother has been in and out of the hospital and Emergency Room for the last year with pulmonary and heart failure.

On another occasion when I had picked up my dads medication for his fentanyl Patch it was not labeled. See attached.

With the decision made that we are no longer welcome at the pharmacy we have also been denied our needed vaccinations. My kids must stay current on them as some are mandatory if enrolled in public school. The other problem is we live in Driggs, Idaho where the roads are often closed in the winter due to blizzards. In 2022 and 2023 the roads remained closed for two three weeks straight. With severe weather. As you can imagine I have to think my family and I could be without our medication that could potentially harm our health, possible withdraw illness or even death. If I had transportation this wouldn’t be such an inconvenience or issue.

Karla is a pharmacist that has a duty to provide dispense and consult patients in a healthcare type setting. We entrusted her with our health, and she dropped us without a viable reason. Pharmacies and pharmacists have broadened their responsibilities in health care and should be held accountable just as a Doctor, Dentist, nurse, or Physician assistant would be. Karla has been dishonest and neglectful in her profession. She took many vacations in the summer which led to her not renewing the pharmacies license that resulted in not receiving refills on time along with my parents.
