Buyer Beware! Blue Dawn Great Danes is NOT the place you want to buy your Great Dane from . They haven't done any of the health testing on their adult dogs...they say they are going to in the future...yeah, right. Because of this, they have no idea if their dog or their puppies have any of the common health issues in Danes like hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, thyroid disease, Von Wildbrant's disease, or knee issues. In fact, their male is only one year old! He isn't even done growing yet, so they have no idea if he is going to have long bone growth issues. OFA, who certifies hips, knees and elbows won't even allow x-rays to be sent in until the dog is at least 2 years old. To be honest, after talking with them, I don't even think they know what any of these conditions are. Their health guarantee is a joke...one year. Well folks, Great Danes don't even stop long bone growth until at least two years of age meaning that none of these health issues will show up until AFTER your health guarantee has expired. We had an friend who lives nearby drive by their place and it is literally falling down. These guys are a glorified puppy mill. You should read their contract...basically if you have to pay them HUGE amounts of money (thousands) if you don't send the spay certificate within 6 days of the procedure. For someone who doesn't care about taking care of their own dogs, they sure do ask a lot of their new puppy owners. These are two people who are ONLY out to make money off of selling puppies and do not care for their adult dogs. Don't be fooled by their website...if you want to see what they are really about, ask for health records and then go see where they live. The enormous mound of garbage in the back yard is really astounding...and disgusting! Don't be fooled by their "lower" prices. You will get what you pay for...a dog that will only cost you heart ache and a ton of money in vet bills. Pass this along to anyone interested in buying a Dane. Blue Dawn Danes is a HORRIBLE!

Hi, thanks for your response. I am (was) a potential customer. We have had several danes over the years and were looking to get another one. I wholeheartedly agree with having a spay/neuter contract. It is a responsible thing for breeders to do to ensure that their puppies don't end up in puppy mills, etc. My main beef is with all of the "charges" you would incur should you for get to send the paperwork within the specified 6 days. Their contract also states the same for the health exam right after you get your dog. I think it is a shady way of extorting money out of people. Many breeders simply hold back the AKC papers until proof of Spay/Neuter. This seems acceptable to me. But I agree that there does need to be incentive. We live in Tennessee but my little brother goes to Washington State Univeristy in Pullman, Wa. It's only about 10 mins from where these people live so we sent him over to check it out. I sure am glad we did. So many breeders put up a good front with a website but are really just horrible breeders. Oh ya, their website is www.bluedawndanes.com . Cheers!

Oh yeah, I also noticed that they pulled their address from their website. Kind of funny considering that every complaint about them says that they live in a dump with garbage everywhere!

Hey guys, just an update on this breeder...they pulled their website for a little while ( I am guessing because they generated some heat over their ridiculous contract, etc) but, now it is back up! This is all very typical of a puppymill, though sometimes they will change their name altogether. People, please still beware, these folks are not good breeders. Their website used to say, "we breed so that we can have a puppy fix..." Any good breeder, breeds to better the breed...not for a puppy fix. They obviously don't breed to better the breed, otherwise they would health test their dogs. Also, just because they pulled their contract from their website doesn't mean they still don't have the same one. Shame on them. All I can say is STAY AWAY! There are several reviews posted all over the web on these folks. This many people can't be wrong.

Hey, you guys must be having some luck... I have been watching this complaint post and I just noticed that the breeder JUST changed their policy for spay/neuter certificate mailing to 30 days. Now if they would only get a clue and stop breeding dogs in a filthy house and without proper health testing. Can you say "Puppy Mill!?!" Get the word out!

I found the same things to be true about this breeder and wanted to give everyone a heads up about a possible scam and definite bad breeder in Idaho. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a dane puppy for a while and have read up on all of what we should look for in a breeder. We really wanted to buy from a local breeder so that we could go a see their facility, meet the parents, and puppies before they were ready to go. We were really excited when we saw an ad for Blue Dawn Danes in Moscow, Idaho. We live in Lewiston, Idaho and decided to make the 40min drive up to Moscow yesterday to drive by the breeder's house and maybe knock on the door. We were appalled by what we saw when we got there. The first impression was not a good one. We had to drive down the alley due to road construction blocking the way our GPS said to go. In their backyard is an enormous mound of garbage. It looks to be several months worth. We were really disgusted. We drove around to the front of the house and the place is really dumpy looking. I don't mean to bash on anyone's way of living but, it made us sad to think that there were puppies living in there. I'm surprised that the place is not condemed. We had originally had some concerns about them as a breeder after looking at their website and seeing their house just confirmed all of them. Don't get me wrong, I am all for a spay/neuter contract. But this breeder says that if you don't send them the spay/neuter certificate within 6 days of the procedure, you have to pay them $1000! Same thing if you break any part of the contract. Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed and are pretty sure these people are running a scam...hoping you don't read the contract you sign and then they can sue you for thousands. We were also very disappointed that they didn't even have their dog's hips certified. Everything we have read up on the breed says that this is a must have. Seems a bit rediculous to be selling dogs for this much money that live in a squalid environment and have not been health tested. We tried to contact animal control today but there isn't anything they can do unfortunately. I guess all we can do is be proactive and get the word out that these folks are up to no good. Please feel free to email me with any questions.
