In July of 2008 we purchased a foreclosed home in Phoenix, AZ owned by Bank of New York. We had a signed real estate contract with them for a purchae price. A few days before closing they came back and decided they wanted $40, 000 more in order to close. We consulted a real estate attorney who told us if we took it to court we would win but it would take quite a bit of time. We were moving from another state and had a child starting school in early August. We had no choice but to ante up an additional $40, 000 to them in order for them to close. We were basically held up at gun point. Do not ever do business with Bank of New York as they are extremely unethical.
Thanks for letting people know this is a scam. It is also illegally money laundering. The cheques are fake, and you'll be asked to withdraw money from your account before the funds have cleared properly. Once the cheques are rejected by your bank, you'll be left out of pocket.
