After reading about the coverage for any Atrium affiliated physician, as well as major benefits regarding child vision, all for less than what I was currently paying... sure I changed my carrier from Aetna to Ambetter of NC.
When I paid my first premium, I never received an email confirmation of the payment. After 2 days and not seeing it come out of my bank account I logged onto the Ambetter website. The website is not user friendly. I did find payment history and it did not show a payment. So, I paid it again to avoid a lapse in coverage. I immediately received a confirmation email so I felt relieved. Two days later I saw my first payment to Ambetter backdated and cleared on my bank account. I also saw my most recent payment cleared too. Ugh, I made a double payment. I was pretty irritated. Then 1 day after that a third payment cleared. I didn't make this payment, but it said it was an autopayment.
I called customer service and after 1.5 hours I was off the phone bawling my eyes out. $1000 had been debited from my account in a matter of 5 days. The customer service agent could not speak english and had to use a translator to communicate with me. She offered a refund, but said it would be 30-60 days before it would be credited back to me. She also refused to escalate to her manager after several pleas. She also refused to cancel my insurance when I had enough of the games.
I tried to make the insurance work after that, but I find out none of our Atrium affiliated phsycians are even covered! Also, there is no eye doctor that accepts Ambetter in NC. The closest is Georgia. I had to make a hard decision to switch back to Aetna and I'll never give Ambetter another chance.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate a prompt refund, an apology for debiting a 3rd payment without my authorization.
