I first retained the services of the Affordable Legal Group as of the 15th of September of 2009. My goal was to get to have my children more than I was afforded by the current legal system in Virginia which is not father friendly. I spoke with and emailed back and forth to Alexander Brooks who stated that the advantages of the Affordable Legal Group far outweighed anything that I could get from an attorney in VA due to the fact they were a large organization dedicated to advocating for Father's Rites. Mr. Brooks went on to say that I could expect the Affordable Legal Group to work efficiently and once they had the info requested from me would be ready to file a case with VA within 5 business days. After 4 months of continual excuses to include my countless emails and voice messages that were not replied to I grew very dissatisfied. To date I have kept every email concerning my correspondence with Edward Maddison and Nicole Smith as I was unable to continue with Alexander Brooks as it was explained to me he was out due to a family emergency. I requested a full refund in December and was told by Mr MAddison that this decision was being discussed between him and a Mr. Morrison. I sent him the following email detailing my complaint.

I want you to know that I cannot tell you how upsetting this process has been and all I wanted to do is to be able to have my children every other week as opposed to the limited time I have them presently. I originally began this process with Alexander Brooks who disclosed that the advantage of going with the Affordable Legal Group was due in part to your size and ability to pull many resources together to expedite the process and have a case ready to file within 5 days after receiving the pertinent information from the client. Moreover you could instantly retain an attorney on my behalf and for one fee take care of all these issues for me in an expedient manner.
After I faxed over that contract I was called a week later by Jon Fitzgerald who too my information and he told me what to send to the Affordable Legal Group for the legal team. I did so and your records should indicate that you received my information on the 21st of SEPTEMBER.
Two weeks went by and I heard nothing so I began to call, leave messages and email Mr. Brooks however heard nothing back. Finally I heard back from you on or around October 7th to which you apologized for the miscommunication however Mr Brooks was out on Leave. Again much more time elapsed and it soon becomes November to which at no point was anything sent to me concerning Motions to be filed, or who my lawyer would be despite my repeated calls and emails.
I insist by mid November that this is ridiculous that my case has not been prepared as evidenced by the before mentioned statement to which I received a reply from you on the 20th of November that the filing will be complete that afternoon and that I should expect to receive this information along with supplementals that you wished for me to review. You stated in your email on the 20th that I should expect that no later than mid day on Monday the 23rd of November. I received nothing from you on the 23rd...I emailed you again to which you apologized on the 24th of November and stated that you were staying late that evening and that my case was top priority. You went on to allege that I should expect something that Tuesday the 24th. I again received nothing. Thanksgiving rolled around so nothing more would be done if anything had been done in the first place. On December 1 after I had left several more voice messages and sent many more emails you stated that you and a Mr. Nash would be calling me and conferencing with me via the phone at 9am that morning. I called your office that morning after 9 and was told you had not even arrived. I was then told you would call me that same day at 1pm Dec 1st. Again I received no call so I call back again. I was told that it shouldnt be too much longer and that you would call me Dec 1. Again no call. So I email you more and leave more voice messages to which I received an email from you that evening to which you stated you would call me if it was not too late for me. I replied and told you I was available anytime and awaitied your call. Again you did not call. So I emailed you back that next morning on Dec 2. too which you apologized again and that you would demoinstrate to me that my case was well underway and ready to be filed(mind you that you have been saying this since November). That evening I received 2 motions from you finally to my hearts delight. When I opened the first one I found it to be incomplete and left off any mention of my son Grant but only mentioned my desire to have Maddy, my daughter every other week. The second motion pertained to the adjustment in child support from the $595.00 per month that I pay now to $529.00. Now I have my children 105 days out of the year and would be moving to a point of having my children to 182 days. That would cause that figure to be adjusted to about $161 roughly. In my disappointment after waiting 4 months for any evidence that my case was ready you send my something that is wrong on all accounts and only denotes about 20 minutes worth of work if that.
Again I asked for a refund to which you actually act surprised and have the audacity to tell me that you have retained 2 attorneys to which you have not supplied me their names or contact information as I have requested over and over again. You went on to say that you have spent hours on my case getting it togther to which to date after 4 months I have 2 motions that are incomplete and incorrect. I have email Jon Fitzgerald, Nicole Smith, even figured I email Alexander Brooks( in case he is back) simply to get those names for the attorneys you claim you have retained on behalf. You stated you would call me today in 40 minutes when it was 156pm EST. Again...no call but I received email from you that you would be calling me shortly as you were on a conference call. I emailed you as you were obviously able to email me while on the phone to send me those names. Nothing...I have paid over $1500.00 and have nothing to show for it except a lot of frustration and wasted time. You stated that you would be submitting my information to someone for review concerning a refund so I would like to know who is your supervisor is or to whom you report to. I will not sit by and be made a fool no longer. I have kept every email and a detailed log of my dealings with the Affordable Legal Group since day one that will back up everything I am saying.

I also see the many other complaints against this group for the very same issues I have and currently experienced. I expect also that I will get a nice little reply from Nicole Smith as she has done so for the other complaints. I have kept very good records about my experiences with the Affordable Legal Help group and would encourage all who are looking for legal representation to find different representation other than the Affordable Legal Help Group.
Is that way they have gone under or write bad checks to their own employees? Is that why they have been rated with a F by the Better Business Bureau. It is obvious you are an employee of ALH or about to be a former employee trying to fake a good report for ALH. Who are you kidding?
In all honesty at this point I simply request that ALH group follow through with providing me the refund promised to me by Mr MAddison on December 17th 2009. I have emails from you excusing the behaviors of Edward Maddison and ALH group to which I can find no excuse for what I have been through. Please see below:

FYI to everyone who reads this. Cvaughn_1971 is a real person. I am a third party and I do have the right to post comments about there business. I've said this to other complaints, but my case was finished in about three weeks. They always replied to my emails, and i was done with my case rather fast. Every time I called, first I requested my case manager and usually received an email within the hour. FIVE STARS Affordable Law Group.
Woah, ALL CAPS! I thought they were great. I used a case manager there name Mark and he did everything like he said. Got my visitation adjusted and arrears all figured out. I dunno why you had such a problem. Glad you figured it out, but I paid like $750 in two payments and the services were provided exactly as he stated. I was done with my case within a month and had no problems at all.
I had no issues with them. They did great with my case, everything that my case manager explained to me as far as my case went smoothly. Received great services, and have recommended them to anther friend who he has had nothing but good things to say as well. Disagree entirely.

Well well, Nicole, or Edward, or whoever is the entity responsible for the rebuttals on this site. Jason and Crystle here, surprise. Also a surprise (Not) we still haven't received the rest of our refund! I see here that many, many others have fallen victim to your fradulent, immoral, and illegal business practices. We are fed up; your time is up.
To all the other people who have fallen victim to these criminals, here is our shortened story (which is unremarkably very similar to every other complaint about this company on this site) On or around October 7 2009, we contacted "A.L.H." in regards to a very serious child custody case. We were told, assured and affirmed that if we paid $1550.00 that ALH would provide us with an attorney to represent us in court, and guess what? Nobody showed! The morning of my court date, I had to stand alone in front of the judge and beg for mercy that he would not send me to jail for contempt due to the fact that I had no attorney present to represent me (as promised the evening before by Kenneth). Luckily I was able to convince the judge to grant me a one month extension on the case. So we contacted the "ALH" office, and to make a long story short, basically got the same run-around as everyone else: "I'll have Edward call you back in a few minutes...he's in a meeting right now...etc. but we are working diligently on your case." Oh and the reason we didn't get a lawyer to represent us in court was because, as Kenneth claimed the payment was not processed in sufficient enough time to secure the services of a local attorney here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, while the night before we were on the phone with Kenneth as the payment was processed and completed and he said that we will have a lawyer to represent us on the scheduled court date. Anyways, after about a week of the standard "ALH" runaround and delay tactics, we became fed up and requested a refund (on or around Oct. 27 2009). They said they were sorry and promised that a refund would be processed. The fee that "ALH" charged for our case was $1550.00, which they agreed to allow us to split into two payments (I couldn't afford the whole payment up front, hence the reason I decided to use their services in the first place!) The first payment was made via money order in the amount of $775.00. The second payment was made via credit card also in the amount of $775.00. After the court date was re-scheduled, we decided to give "ALH" a second chance to represent our case (Edward can be a very convincing salesperson) and overlook the "misunderstanding" with the first court date. The ignoring of phone calls and missed appointments on their behalf continued, and after pleading on several instances for Affordable Legal Help to give us the name of the attorney who would be representing us in the next court date, Edward finally gave us the name of the law firm and attorney that Affordable Legal Help intended on assigning us. At this point we were extremely skeptical of Affordable Legal Help's business practices and especially the actions of "Edward Maddison", so we decided to contact the attorney they assigned us via phone. Well come to find out, that attorney no longer worked at that law firm and had been fired 5 years ago! After SEVERAL weeks of constant calling, pleading and arguing with the staff at "ALH" (namely Kenneth and EDWARD "Maddison", aka Edward "Herzstock" which we were informed is Edward's real last name) for a full refund, we finally received a partial refund on our credit card in the amount of $775.00. We then proceeded to call their office several times with no answer, so we decided to go to a payphone and call (just in case they were avoiding our calls, caller ID anyone?) and surprise! Kenneth answered the phone! We then inquired about the remaining balance of our refund and were told that their company policy regarding refunds is that they are required to refund their customers in the way in which the customer paid, i.e. if someone sends partial payment with a credit card, then they have to refund that portion of the money back onto the credit card, if someone pays by check, then they have to refund that customer by check, etc. It is now January 18th 2010 and we still have not received the balance of our refund. The last time we called and actually spoke with someone at Affordable Legal Help about the status of our second refund, they said that the refund check was mailed at the same time as the credit card refund was processed, however we never received it. We all have the same complaints and they have taken our money and put us thru ther ringer and now they wont refund it. I have been asking since November. I spoke to Kenneth Friday he told me they supposedly mailed my money the week before last with UPS and here it is Sunday the following week. Still have not received a thing. LIES LIES LIES is all they give us. Edward and Nicole dont have the decency to pick up the phone and take care of any of this. They hide behind emails and the people who answer the phone. THIS IS SOOOOO WRONG how they have taken all our money and do us this way. WE ARE TIRED OF IT NICOLE AND EDWARD ! We want our money back when you tell us it will be done. You dont like people saying you lie well that is all you have done to me and others from the looks of it. SEND ME MONEY I am tired of asking for it and getting excuses. I have also kept all my emails to this group. We all have a voice we need to use it.

As each client is submitted for a refund, they are reviewed and a refund is granted after the legal department approves it. I will send you confirmation of this for your case and you will receive it by 10AM PST.
You are and have been extremely emotional throughout this and as much as we have tried to coach you through this, after you were sent the initial filing of your case you did not allow us to continue.
What is different between James Miller's (Heather Miller) case and your case is that you received some of the work we had been completing for you, and we did not finish.
SO for you to say the word "scam" is ridiculous, we tried to hold your hand every step of the way. Mr. and Mrs. Miller on the other hand we did not send them any of the documents of their case, so they had no evidence in their hands that we were doing what we said. And we cannot argue that. We can only apologize to them for not being able to help and issue a refund, move on.
This has been a pattern for you - it was not recently that you would get emotional with anyone in our office, during the 3 months we working on your case there any many individuals who tried to coach you through this. I really hope that you can find peace, that you have a nice holiday.

I have been thru the same thing.. we will do it, were working on it, its already refunded, no wait its not yet, its being reviewed, etc... this is the same run around I get all the time. They dont want you to say they are lying, yet they never come thru and do what they say they will... hmmmm makes sense to me- bout as clear as MUD ! They only answer little bits and pieces just enough to make you think they are working on it. I have yet to get a true apology for any of this that i have been put thru - when we did what we were supposed to do, faithfully made the payments on time. They did not do their part - and now they are not refunding the 1500.00 like they keep TELLING me they are going to.
