I had a run in with this company today, I was sitting in my drivers seat when they backed up to my car so hard it jolted me into my stearing column, then he proceeded to tell me I have to get out of the vehicle because it font belong to me it belongs to my husband and that if I didn't get out he would have me arrested, I stayed in the car until the cops and ems showed up... I am now suffering severe neck pain and back pains and having trouble breathing from how hard he got my car... mind tot he did ALL of this with me in the vehicle the ENTIRE time...

As a former employee with advantage recovery they don't impersonate law enforcement, never have and never will, they are better than that you must of had to do something to piss them off. When we go out to look for a certain vehicle and find it and if the owner is around we help them out by letting them get whatever they need out if the vehicle we always respect everyone and treat everyone nice if they do the same to us..

There are many Advantage Companies. However it does list Advantage Recovery Group, Inc. above and that is def the wrong company.

Above is incorrect! It lists Advantage Recovery Group, Inc. Advantage Recovery Group, Inc. does not pursue auto loans. Primarily medical debt only. FYI

Hell yea, if you don't pay they take it away, but they have to obey the law and debtors have rights too.

Countrygirl21 you must work for Advantage or else why would you care?

The reality of the situation is it is a state and federal trace commission violation to threaten the law or jail time in the efforts of collections and that does include repossession.

NO one goes to jail for Hindering a Secured Creditor. D.A.s do not prosecute it and it's not a reality. If you don't believe me, call a D.A. Especially in Harris County will take charges on a person if they have the option of paying off. I see this a lot with leases. The only one exception is a bailment agreement which after a ten day demand letter can be a crime to not surrender.

You can't make someone think they are going to jail in order to coheres them out of a auto. It's the law.

The DTPA is the Deceptive Trade Practices Act

and it says:

1. That you may not speak to any person other than a person's spouse regarding a debt.
So, in summery, you cannot call a persons mother and make a demand for a car, or money or both.

2. You may not speak about criminal charges.

3. You may not cause confusion or misunderstanding as to affiliation, connection, or association with, or certification by another.
S0, you can't call someone and say you work for the Harris County government, when you do not.

4. Section 17.505 of the Texas Deceptive Trace Practices
also states that if the offenses were committed knowingly and intentionally, and I do see that they were,
the plaintiff will be awarded three times (mandatory award) economic damages and three times the amount of damages for both mental anguish and economic damages.

So, all you above posters are wrong. The original poster is right.
If someone calls you saying that they are going to put you in jail if you don't surrender a car please do get your recorder on your phone to record.

A skip tracer two years ago with ARB in Brad Long's office did 16 months in Harris Co jail for doing that exact thing. If you don't believe me on that one, call ARB yourself and talk to Brad or Brain Long. I'm sure they would love to tell you all about it. It was even on the news.

I have only had my vehicle resposeesed once and advantage was the one that did it. I was treated nicely. Maybe you were mean to them or lied to them. I dont ever want to have to deal with another repossession company again nor will i. But my dealings with them were very respectful and they even gave me help in finding assistance with getting a new car through a new program that just came out.

This happens all the time. They will do anything to get your car if it's out for repo.
