AcademicSingles.co.uk review: B 123206, Commercial Register Luxembourg

I joined very briefly Academic Singles last August 2020. I realised very rapdily that the people on the board were not remotely suitable matched to me. I was then distracted by a family bereavement so didn't realise that the time frame to cancel had passed - having only been on the site for a few days. I did not realise until money was taken from my account - which I complained about to Paypal and was told couldn't cancel - that there was an automatic renewal process. I then attempted to undertake all of the steps on the complaint/cancellation procedure and do not get a response from the website and can't log in any more to do the cancellation process online which I wasn't able to do until had paid another fee (e.g the one I was in dispute about). I've asked repeatedly for a new login to check to see if I'm still registered as am concerned that they will then take more money but don't receive a new login so not sure if cancelled or blocked or ignored. I've emailed the company with the downloaded cancellation form and don't receive any response - done that x 2 and still getting some messages from members. I've then re-emailed saying I'm complaining and today had an automated reply telling me that some weeks after repeatedly trying to send the message that the system is not accepting emails. I have no confirmation of what is going on proof they've accepted my cancellation and am concerned that the money will continue to go out. The link from their website - supposedly to allow email complaints doesn't work either. this must be illegal under EU law.

I am utterly disgusted with this service which has added stress and a sense of anxiety over whether I've managed to cancel or not. It is hard enough considering dating in late middle age for the first time in many years without feeling 'ripped off' in such a way - I see now - although hadn't looked before that there are many many complaints about this company
