This happened to me today. Kevin is not interested in keeping happy customers. My contract didnt expire yet but still wont let me cancel it. Im suppose to give 30 days written notice. The contract was signed 3 years ago ( by my wife) . They assume you will forget that clause in the contract. I wish I dont have to put up with the high price of monitoring for another year. I wish there is another way out of it. There is no Talking sense to Kevin. I can tell by our conversation today he gets that complaint often. He was a little to polished on his excuses. If anyone has a suggestion besides read what you sign, my email address is [protected]@yahoo.com

Bla Bla Bla. Kevin just face it. You keep customers not by giving value but by in my opinion a deceptive contract. Many people would have forgotten the 30 DAYS IN WRITING clause after 3 years. Maybe that is what you are hoping. I will be on a mission to let all know that have SDS what has happened to me.

SDS Security ***--- they troll the new home sales in the paper and intrudes on people when they are moving in trying to sell them security services. Well, a huge mistake on my part was letting them in the door when my defenses were down. They conned us into security services for 3 years. Well, my husband lost his job - was out of work for 7 months - until we had to move out of state for him to take a job. Despite the fact that we sold the house, SDS Security in their shady business practices hounded us to continue to pay the monthly fee. Now they are threatening to send it to court. What Jerks! Do not go with SDS - I would love nothing more than to see them go out of business - Definitely do not sign any long-term contracts with them without a clause that you can get out of the ridiculous contract. SDS ***!

1. First, and foremost . . . DO NOT PAY THEM, EVEN IF THEY THREATEN YOUR CREDIT RATING. If you pay them, you’re essentially “acknowledging” the debt. You’ll have little/no recourse if you pay them.
Inform others. Post your “review” and “experience” on other sites (Awareness is the first goal).

4. File a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Affairs (This is also very important. Do NOT skip this step)
NOTE: Pursuant to TCA Title 47, Chapter 18, the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, you may want to file a complaint with the Division of Consumer Affairs, 5th Floor, 500 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville, Tennessee 37243. [protected]) or [protected])

I feel violated by the company and their representative, Kevin Allen, that I hired to protect my family and provide a sense of security. I signed a contract to pay $560 to install the system and then was a loyal customer for SIX YEARS! I was transferred out of state and my wife called to cancel. They said they had just auto-renewed that month and we would have to pay for a full year more, even though we will not have a need for their service and they have made plenty off of us. Before filing a BBB complaint and after (and I encourage all of you to do so as that is the only thing that seems to get Kevin's attention) my wife and I talked and left messages for Kevin. Rather than trying to diffuse the situation, he questioned my integrity and encouraged me to bring it on - actually belittled me as to how I get my kicks. Yeah, I'm really enjoying all of this grief your company is creating for me and my family and we have nothing else we would rather do. SDS, this is why I am going to be posting on all the boards and will be encouraging others to act. You have a real professional there, running the shop. Please stay away from SDS if you care about your financial and mental security as well as physical security.

check out this blog that explains what Kevin and SDS did to another customer. So sad to see. I completely agree that peopel should live up to contracts...this story shows I would never do business with SDS if they employ people who would do things like this. I just found an interesting blog article on this company at http://sdssecurity.wordpress.com . I think we all agree (Except for Kevin) that doing business like this is not only unappreciated, but intolerable and we will not sit by and do nothing, while we are taken advantage of. I encourage everyone to contact the BBB to initialize a formal complaint.

Unfortunately, the same customers that complain and make posts about the renewal clause are also the same customers that would try to hold the company liable if we did cancel their monitoring based on a verbal inquiry( ex: alarm goes off and no signal is transmitted leaving nobody to respond). Most people appreciate the fact that there is NO GRAY AREA because everything is in writing from the time of signing the agreement to making changes to the account in any way. This makes everyone on the same page at all times. Have you ever tried to cancel your life insurance policy by verbal requests? Have you ever tried to change authorized parties on a bank account by verbal requests? Again, most consumers understand the importance of requests in writing. There will ALWAYS be customers that want to bend the agreement to more conveniently meet their needs.

the suggestion is always read what you sign. Isn't this what intelligent people do? If companies did not hold cuostmers accountable, they would all be OUT of business. I guess people that foreclose on their homes blame it on the mortgage company and the people that get their cars re-possessed blame the auto company too?

This is a valid and accurate comment. The exact same thing happened to me with this company. This company doesn't care about the customer only the few extra dollars it can squeeze out of them. Stay away from this company.

SDS does not require a customer to pay $1 more than they promised to in writing. A customer signs an agreement prior to installation of a security system in their home/business. When SDS installs a security system at NO COST, there is an initial investment on behalf of the company. This customer did not feel that they should pay for an agreement in which they entered. IF the company does not adhere to the terms of the agreements, SDS would jeopardize the longevity of employment of our employees and the quality of customer service that our loyal customers expect and appreciate. We all face difficult times but that does not excuse us of commitments and promises that we make.

This company has the worst customer service and cancellation policies. We completed our 36 month contract and thought we canceled it. However, we realize we did not fully complete the process since it was also not done in writing and contacted them to stop the billing and the services; however, since we did not notify them within 30 days of the contract being done, they are saying we have to pay another ENTIRE YEAR...even though we no longer even live in the home. Be very aware of their cancellation policy since it will come to bite you. We called and talked to Kevin Allen at [protected] he and the other leaders said they will still not do anything to help. Kevin Allen was our sales rep and I would stay clear of him and SDS. I realize it is part of their contract to have to cancel within 30 days and I should have read their way to fool customers closer; however, good customer service gives employees the chance to take care of the customer and SDS does NOT do that!
