Gave her a deposit for an English Bulldog puppy that she claimed was due in 4 weeks. Over the next 4 MONTHS, she would change the due dates, ages, and details of the litter, finally telling us that she wouldn't have a male for us (our preference) in this litter, but she had another that would be ready to go to new homes soon. When we would press her for information about our puppy, she would continuously ignore requests to provide pictures of the puppies, would not allow us to come to her home to see the puppies or their living conditions, and avoided giving a date that we would be able to get our puppy. She agreed to meet us with two of her adult stud dogs, but insisted we could not come to her house since she had puppies under 4 weeks/pregnant females/different excuses every time. We asked for our deposit back, since she had not provided any proof that a puppy even existed, and would be moving out of the state in less than a month, and although she had offered the deposit back before, she said that it was non-refundable since she suspected I wanted it back to find a puppy elsewhere. (Although I have every right to use my money for whatever I like.) She became very defensive and rude in emails, and refused to cooperate until we began to pursue legal action. She did eventually send us a check for our deposit refund, but we have since spoken with others who have not been so lucky. If ever buying a puppy from her (or any breeder), do NOT give a deposit until you have seen the puppy in person and have signed a contract specifying which puppy you have placed a deposit on, and when you will get the puppy. This breeder was on the breeder referral list for the Bulldog Club of America and AKC, so don't be fooled by reputable affiliations.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Karen would not let us come to her home either. Out bulldog was handsome but only grew to be 39lbs and seemed to have developmental disabilities. He was afraid to make eye contact and didn't ever pick up on potty training. I had another bulldog who was very well mannered, house broken and k ew some tricks. Usually the pups will be easier to train when there is a well behaved elder dog for them to learn from. If your puppy is from karen silver then forget it. I also felt compelled a few months later to rescue a bulldog from her bloodlines that had a owner who was supposedly gravely ill and had 5 bullies. I agreed to take one and she talked me into one that I hadn't chosen saying she would be a better fit with my 2 boys. She got to my house and wanted to tear into my oldest bulldog any chance she could get. I eventually had to rehome her to someone who had no other dogs. Oh and surprise...she was full grown and not potty trained either.
I paid in full for an English Bulldog and got the same responses. She actually told me she gave my puppy to someone else who had not paid her. She still has my money 3 years later. She is full of excuses on why she can't pay back or why she doesn't have your puppy. She's a fraud and a thief! BEWARE! Do not buy!
I would never get another bulldog from Karen Silver. Ours have major genetic issues, this according to the Florida Vet School vets. Karen denies this could happen...who to believe? A vet school or a breeder who won't send pics of the parents or the puppies...she met us in a parking lot to hand over the pups. Bad breeder.
I bought a puppy from Karen 2 years ago and have not had the first problem with my puppy. My vet says he is one of the healthiest Bulldogs he has seen. She was very open and easy to communicate with when buying my puppy. She sent me multiple pics before buying and was upfront about everything. I would highly recommend her.
We bought two pups from Karen Silver. One has severe genetic spine deformities. The other has major structural issues. She would not allow us to see the parents either. We would Never recommend her dogs.
