I would like to explain my experience with Shanti-International to in the hope that I help you make the right decision with them.

I had decided after many years working in the corporate world that I needed a change and wanted to have a fresh start doing something worth while in the world. I decdied to work for a charity organisation and choose Shanti-International.

I went on gumtree and came accross an organisation called Shanti International charity in london and they were looking for event managers. I had alot of experience with events and knew that I could deliver high revenue with my skill set. I sent them my CV and I called and was offered an interview in the office in Manor Way, in London. The day came for the interview and I put all my papers together. I was a little nervous, because I had given many interviews over the years, but never had an interview for many years. Nevertheless, I felt prepared. I got to the office and it was above a school. I met the manager Sean and sat down with him. He explained to me about the cause and I explained about my passion to help the cause. It was a nice conversation and I left feeling quite good. The following day I recieved and email telling me that I got the job. I was really happy and thought to myself, 'it would be a really good opportunity to work for this cause and make a difference and make money doing so.' So I then called the manager and he explained that he wanted a brief off me of what I would do to set up, launch and market the event. I explained that it would take me a few days, but sure and I would be more than happy to do this. I researchd all my methodologies and created a system where we would maximise profit on a corporate/celebrity speaker event and afterparty. It took me about four days to perfect it. But I got it done. I sent it over to the manager and he said he would look over it. The following day he explained that it was perfect and just what he needed. I was happy and explained that I needed £1, 295 for the marketing budget. He said that would be fine. So I negociated with a large enough venue for the event and went to hotels and after party venues and built up links and dates. I contacted business event leaders and other associates who could make the event possible. I contact my media contacts and arranged to hire a celebrity press release. Then the problems started. My manager, I found kept asking me the same questions over and over again. I didnt just explain to him, I also included him in every relevent email which outlined everything. Yet he kept asking me that same questions? I found this quite difficult as I really am not use to explaining myself several times on the same subject. Alarm bells started ringing and I asked him, if he was OK and is their anything I should knowabout as this behaiviour was quite alient to me? He explained that he was just busy and to continue. I thought well, it must just be me. The day came for pay the press release and I sent him a paypal link. He then explained that I have got to go to the office and sign some forms? I said, well that is reasonable...So I travelled back up to london on Mothers day to sign some forms. Applogiesed to my mother but explained I had to go. When I got their, I met with the manager Sean and he sat down with me and asked me to explain everything again, which I did. He then said I am happy with that I will transfer the funds over first thing. I said great! I waited and then asked him for the forms he wanted me to sign. He explained...that I dont need to sign any forms? he would send me terms and conditions via the post? I thought, is this a joke? I got up to leave and explained to him that I thought I had to sign something...as It didnt make sense to me why I just travelled half way around the country to have the same conversation I have had and emailed for weeks. He re-assured that everything was fine and it would be transfered first thing the following day. I got in the car and knew their was something not right with this guy. I sent him a heart felt text thanking him for believing in me and saying thank you, although I was really annoid!... That night I recieved a text explaining to me that the manager Sean would be speaking to the trustees in the morning 9.30 and the funds would be imedietly transfered. The day before when I asked him, he explained that they done what he told them to do? So I sent everyone concerned an email saying sorry about the wait and we can get moving monday and give everyone a timeline of how I wanted it all to work leading up to distribution of the press release. I convinced myself that it would be fine. Monday came and 12pm came, no response from the charity or Sean Rooney. I knew this was it. I tried calling his mobile he completly ignored me and the office did the same, telling me he wasnt their. I was so mad. I later on that day recieved an email from him saying that they needed to know what the company was I was dealling with and why it was going into my account. What a joke! I have told him which company I was using, I had sent him emails to and from the company. The company was even mentioned in the brief that was on the actual email he replied to me on. And to top it off, it was his idea for the money to go into my account as I explained to him in detail why he should pay directly from the charity?

Sean Rooney is a complete ###. I missed both my sisters birthday and mothers day having the run around by him. I never recieved a penny back for the money I lost travelling and expenses. And to top it off he never paid me anything. All this, becuase I believed in Him and his cause. All this because I wanted to give back and do something good.

I have now also found out that this cause is a bogus cause and please read the reviews and peoples experiences on Shanti International before thinking of donating to them and please dont work for them. If you do, after reading my experience, then more fool you.

I can confirm much of the above. This looks like a scam. Sean Rooney, who actually owns Shanti, has had several failed businesses.
