On Tuesday May12, 2020 I had an appointment to have blood work done in order to have my prescriptions refilled. I am new to Las Vegas, so I did not have a primary care physician. I made my appointment at ProCare Medical Group Primary & Urgent Care, located at:
5270 S. Fort Apache Rd. #330, Las Vegas, NV [protected]. I was seen by a nurse practitioner by the name IulIa Simon. Ms. Simon entered my exam room twice without a face mask. My charts indicated that I was a senior citizen, in the high-risk group as I am a diabetic with high blood pressure. When Ms. Simon came into the exam room a third time to examine me, she still was not wearing a mask as I was. She sat two feet directly in front of me with no mask or gloves and began talking to me. I asked her where her mask was. She looked at me and asked me if it bothered me that she was not wearing a mask. I told her yes, and I asked her to go put one on.
I feel as a medical professional it was her responsibility to be mindful of the patients she sees and if for no other reason than professional etiquette to have her face covered when seeing an older high-risk patient. I should not have had to ask her to cover her face in my presence.
The next day as I opened my prescriptions Ms. Simon called into the pharmacy, I noticed that my pills looked different. Looking at the bottles I saw that she had phoned in my Amlodipine at 10 MG a day when it should have been 5 MG, she called in my Simvastatin at 20 MG a day when it should have been 10 MG a day. My Metformin HCL XR 500 MG a day is ok. The thing that bothered me was that I specifically told her it was time for me to have my bloodwork done and Ms. Simon told me that she likes to do the blood work once a year. I know that I am to have it done every 3-4 months. But she had the front desk schedule me for July 2020. Since I had my last bloodwork done in November 2019, that would create a time span of months. I told her that my Metformin had to be changed one other time and she ignored my request and went on to tell me what A1C is, which I already understood what it was and how it works.
On Monday, May 18, 2020 I called back to that clinic to complain and to speak to whoever was in charge of the medical staff only to get no further that the front desk office manager who argued with me about what I needed and what the provider did. I asked to speak to the facility manager, and she told me all complaints go through the office manager. The office manager asked me what the prescriptions should be, and I asked he if she was a physician? I also told her the point of having blood work was so the medical staff could call in the correct strength of medication. I am thoroughly disgusted at the treatment I received at this clinic. Now I am the one who will have to pay double deductible charges for new medication that I do not even know if it is correct since the last bloodwork was from last year. The office manager continued to argue with me about how they do things there and the fact that she had worked there twenty years. When I told her the Nurse Practitioner should have worn a mask she told me it was her opinion and they did not have to wear a face mask if they did not wish to, and it was her opinion that it was handled correctly. Please share this information with this facilities' management team and remind them that there are people in this society who can advocate for themselves when it comes to professional ethics. I am a teacher and I work hard to keep myself healthy, so I do not spread illness to my family, colleagues, students, and their families. I am respectful of others health as well. It would behoove them to learn to be a bit more considerate and less arrogant when dealing with the public and anyone they encounter.
