I tried OnlineBookClub (OBC) as a reviewer months ago. The book I selected was poorly structured, had little character development, and presented events that were simply unbelievable. Amateurishly written. I resigned from reviewing and forgot about the site until I received an email offering $30 to review a specific book. I agreed and read the book (it was just as bad as the first), reviewed it and turned it in. When I didn't receive payment or any correspondence I inquired. There was an issue with name/nickname matching OBC and Amazon. It took about a dozen emails before I was told to change my name in OBC to resolve the problem. I did that, but then they wanted more documents, which were already in their system. By this time I had already resigned from the review group as I had no intention of trying another book from the site, so I could not retrieve the documents they were requesting. (By the way, they were rude and didn't seem to read communications.)
Trustpilot sent me an email requesting a review of OBC, and I posted my experience, which was negative. The owner, Scott Hughes, contacted me about the review. He pointed out the OBC Guidelines prohibit users from posting negative reviews or forfeit any payment owed. He did offer to "fix it" for me if I removed the negative review. That says a lot about the ethics of OBC. My Trustpilot negative review remains.
