We had the same experience at the Riviera Maya location 1/28/11. Many things were promised by the salesperson about the Grand Paradise Club membership which turned out to be not true. He assured us repeatedly that we had 5 business days to cancel per Mexican law with full refund. When we tried to do that, we were told that no refund was possible so we are following up with our credit card and Profeco (Mexican consumer protection agency).
Stay away from these salespeople as they are not ethical!
They will say anything to make a sale but are dishonest.

We had the same experience everyone has posted about unfortunately. Promised no fees, had difficulty reaching anyone. Took over 2mths to get our package. Attempted to rescind but told it was too late, then appealed through Amex, who told us they had no jurisdiction in Mexico. It's been 6yrs and we haven't used it since. Its so unfortunate that they continue to get away with this. They need to be stopped!

We succumbed to buying 75 visits for $8000.00, that we put on our credit card. After the first sales person gave us a presentation for weeks to the Mayan property. When we went to leave, we were handed over to a Sales team, who pummeled us with additional sales pitches for the Club.
We did purchase a bundle which consisted 75 vacations over our life time for the "small" cost of $8000.00, we were told that we could pick anywhere and anytime.
The following year we tried to book a vacation, however, after selecting a week we were told that we would have to pay a percentage of the cost of the week's vacation. That's not what we were told at the point of purchase. So needless to say, we have never used the Grand Paradise club and we are still paying off the credit card. There should be something legally that a person can do get your money back.

On the surface, a Mayan Palace timeshare might look like an excellent value because one gets to share ownership of a property he or she might not otherwise have been able to afford alone. However, when all the payments, fees, and taxes are added up which must be paid toward their timeshares, they would have saved money by taking a traditional vacation instead. I recommend you to read this article about Mayan Palace:

I am still stunned at what happened to us...after the 5 hour mind screwing we took, we agreed upon a 750.00 10 week package...wasn't out a ton of money...also told that I had 5 days to cancel...not so. They absolutely refused to contact me until day 6...told me it was too late to cancel and their service would make up for the hassle we went through. I was disappointed in the fact that we really enjoy going to Mexico yearly and thought this would be an inexpensive way to spend time in an area we enjoy, fishing, good food, overall very nice people, etc, etc.. As of today, I am unable to even no sign in with my membership number to utilize some weeks. Nothing...so I am screwed...we were looking at bringing our two boys...One in Navy at flight school, and our youngest is in the Air Force...with my wife and daughter for a nice week to two week stay...I cant get through to anyone, I cant use my membership, I have called the las Vegas number...bad news...I hope to get an answer in next day or so or other options will be put in place. good luck...Jeff

It is the same old story with the Mayan Palace timeshare resorts (owner David Chavez) who does not care about what fraud he perpetrates on timeshare buyers. The same old adage applies, with regard to rental fees applicable, etc. It is fraud and there is right of rescission in Mexico no matter what program you buy, no matter what the horror show salespeople tell you. Heve not met one semi-honest one representing the mayan chain yet. Yes, we got scammed and bought, never again. These are the worst operators in the business. The name of the programs, Mayan Regency, The Dream, Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, Bliss, Grupo Luxxe change with regard to what they wish to charge. The upshot is if you are down the line in their program name game list you lose benefits. The tiger does not change its stripes. Beware. I recommend you to read this article about Mayan Palace:

I was defrauded by the Grupo Mayan last year. I was promised all the same things they promise everyone else. I tried to cancel the contract upon my return to California, but instead they offered to exchange our purchase for a smaller unit for less money. I have paid them in full, but are still sick from the whole experience and do not even want to have anything to do with them. It was a total ripoff., . and we are not the only ones, this is a good article on how most of the mayan palace timeshare scams are committed and how to get out of them:

We are in the same boat and I just sent a 5 page letter to our credit card company in hopes of getting back our $3900. We were lied to in so many ways it's no even funny. I sent a very detailed letter with names, phone # and dates explaining all the lies sold to us in Mexico vs. the truth told to us by Grand Paradise Club. My biggest issue the maintenance fees being paid...you have to be approved and then they only pay a portion of your total annual fee, you still pay your bill and GPC will give you a credit to use towards buying another week. So my maintenance fee is $845 and they approved paying $563 less a $50 processing fee (which we weren't told about). So they will give me a credit for $513, take my week and I am still paying over $300 out of pocket for a week I just gave up and now have to buy another week somewhere else. Lie #2, we were given set prices for Paradise Weeks and when you go on the website they are basically doubled what the salesman in Mexico wrote down. Lie #3, GPC will help us sell our timeshares, no upfront fee just 10% commission when it sells. GPC says "we don't have real estate licenses, we are not allowed to sell timeshares, we partner with a 3rd party and you can post your sale for free". Ok if you then type in Timeshares for sale by the time you get to page 18 of searching this website never comes up. Lie #4, we can get a Paradise Week at the Mayan Resorts, upon looking up available places in Mexico, their locations aren't even on the lists. I'm sure I can come up with more stuff they lied about, I'm just hoping our credit card company responds in our favor. I did get a call from an Ernasio Ramos w/Mayan Resorts and when I told him about all the lies they allow their salespeople to tell, told him all the people I have spoken to at GPC and they said that none of what was told to us is correct and I threatened to find a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit, he asked that I allow him to speak to his legal dept and call GPC, he'll call me back...we'll that was 3 weeks ago now, guess he realized they are busted and I feel a class action lawsuit against these practices should be filed, any lawyers interested in taking my case on?!

I discussed over the phone the cancellation of the agreement with somebody at the hotel, I don't recall the name, but I was asked to send an email with my request to the member service department memberservices.cabo@vidasales.com, in order to receive instructions on how to proceed. I have sent a total of 4 emails but nobody has had the courtesy to reply. I am willing to forfeit my deposit without argument even though the product was totally misrepresented we won’t fight it back. All we want is to opt out! Is it really that hard to deal with the mayan palace? Jezzzz

We purchased recently and I wish I had read the contract a lot better. I swear it was stated differently, but I figure it was the neat way they put some stuff on rough paper and other stuff on specific contract. I don't know how well it will work out but I will post. So far the stuff on the website does not seem to save you much in terms of cost and the selection is limited, but they say there is more available by phone, which they do answer by the way. I did notice that even though the savings were not huge that on certain properties they could get much better rates on higher rates...1 BD going to 2BD. Anyway wish me luck.

These scam artists are still working on innocent tourists. And Grand Mayan resort / Mayan palace is letting them work under their roof. Does that mean that the whole operation is ONE BIG SCAM ? They do not let you cancel out of this thing/ they do not respond to phone calls / they do nothing else but THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY. Shame on Grupo Maya and Mayan Palace ! Stay away - find better ways to spend your vacation money than give it to the scam artists. We were freshly cheated in June 2011. Still did not get out money back and still looking for justice. It is a membership in a non-existent club - they never sent us any membership materials - and never responded to our calls and attempts to cancel.

I wish I had time to just do a quick google search about this. Since I didn't want to spend the international data plan money I ended up losing close to $4000 and my whole day was wasted! I too am a fresh victom of the Grand Mayan Cabo SCAM. I really wish someone can come forward and help me resolve this issue. I have a 8 month old baby plus heavy mortgage payments. I really don't think I can bounce back up from this loss anytime soon. Not only is the rest of my vacation ruined, also I have to live the rest of my life knowing I was scammed. Please help!

I signed up for a Grand Paradise Club membership from the Vida Group and i'm very happy with it. Not only did they pay me my maintenance fee back, they also provided me with great phone service. A real life person picks up the phone and not a computer! About refund of your membership: did you really read the contract? It says very clearly that if you cancel THERE IS NO REFUND! If you didn't agree with this, why sign it! The same for the salesperson. If he/she promised you something that is not in the contract: don't sign! It's that simple.

A (very) happy member.

I too purchased the Grand Paradise Club membership and the salesperson it turns out was dishonest in the information he gave us on the membership. I have filed a complaint with our credit card company and am trying to reach the resort and they are telling me that the membership has already been activated and I can't get a refund. I haven't received any information in the mail and have not used the membership since we only purchased it last week while in Cancun. They are high pressure sales and will say what ever they need to to get you to sign. Never will I recommend the Mayan Resorts or ever consider staying there. Very disappointed that a major resort would allow potential guests to be cheated and lied to!
