House 2 Home Furnishings review: Scam 9

Christmas Eve, 2009, my husband and I went to check out H2Hs Boxing Week Sale. They had some awesome deals in the flyer and since we were looking for a bedroom suite and a sofa we could not resist. We went into their North Edmonton show room. The bedroom suite we were looking at was a steel of a deal at only $999. After searching the floor we asked for assistance from the sales clerk (who spent more time on the phone than helping us - real professional). They did not have this particular suite in store to view ... Hmmm ... ok. Quality wise he showed us something similar (which turned out to be quite close). I asked the clerk, What are the dimensions of the chest, dresser, nightstand, and overall bed frame? He looked at me like I asked him to solve the mysteries of the pyramids, I'll go check. I didn't think that was a strange question. He came back and told me he did not have the dimensions of the furniture. You are a furniture store! How do you not have dimensions of stuff you are selling?!? We took a leap of faith and ordered it anyways. When ringing up the order I pointed out to him that there were 2 nightstands included in the $999 price and the chest of drawers was an extra $250. He could not understand what I was telling him until I pulled out the flyer and showed him his own companys advertisement. He asked us to hold for a minute while he called the last 2 customers who ordered that suite to rectify their orders so they would not end up with 3 nightstands and no chest of drawers. Good thing your company prepared you for this sale, again, real professional. When we got home I did my own research and found the furniture through the manufacturers website and located the dimensions there (thankfully everything fit into our room). Should not that have been the stores job?!?

We also ordered a Palliser sectional sofa at the same time. We were told that the price listed included color swatches from groups B and C. Color swatches from group A were an additional charge. We loved the color of the showroom sofa but were told that particular color was from group A (with a price tag attached reflecting colors from groups B & C). After flipping through the swatch books we located the showroom sofa swatch. Surprise! It was from group B, attached to the group A booklet. He shrugged and told us, Looks like it is included in that price, sure you can order that one I guess. Good thing you know your product buddy. Once again, real professional.

We were told the sofa would be in between 8-10 weeks and the bedroom suite between 10-12 weeks. 8 weeks after our purchase I started making phone calls to find out what was happening with our furniture. Our sales clerk informed us the bedroom suite was delayed because of Chinese New Year. The plant had shut down for a few days because of the national holiday. I can believe that, its understandable. What I can not swallow was that this was unexpected news. Huh? You did not know it would be happening? ITS NEW YEARS! Its not like some years we/they choose not to celebrate it. It does not sneak up on you. Its marked on every calendar! I placed phone calls to the Southside store (the manager never goes to the North end store it seems), and was told me the same thing. They expected the cargo to arrive in 2 weeks. So until the furniture actually arrived I placed a call weekly, it was always 2 weeks away. Great time lines! Good way to please your customers.

Delivery was going to be $60 at the door for both the bedroom suite and the sofa. This I learned when placing the order. I asked about paying for delivery at time of purchase. No can do, the cash had to be given to the driver. I guess it was someones buddy with a large truck that works on the side, real nice. Wonder what kind of insurance this guy has? Because the sofa actually arrived within the expected 8-10 weeks, and sat in their warehouse for another 6 weeks waiting for the bedroom furniture, I demanded that they deliver the sofa immediately because I had lost faith in the bedroom suite ever showing up. I would pay for that delivery, but they would have to send the bedroom suite on their own dime due to the extreme delay. The manager reluctantly agreed. When the sofa showed up in mid April, 2010 (16 weeks from original order date), the driver did not mention payment for delivery, and I was not about to bring it up. Especially after they took a quarter size dent out of my wall. The bedroom suite eventually showed up early May, 2010 (19 weeks from original order date). Well most of it. The driver forgot the mirror and had to return a few days later.

My advice, unless House 2 Home has the furniture IN STOCK, ready to be picked up that day, I would not give them a penny.

My angry experience in House 2 Home: On Jan.2, 2016, my husband and I purchased a set of sectional sofa. Because they put the the sign " close business, everything must go " out of the store. Before I paid, I asked the clerk"you are going out of business?" She said, " no, no, no, everything is in normal, we just need to continue our lease here, we might just change a location, but most probably we still stay here." Also, they just put the signs of " final reduction" on the sofas, Not the sign of "final sale", I thought everything is in normal.

Because the sectional is too big for our house, we called the store the next day, but they told me that was "final sale"! I asked why did not tell me it is final sale? they said it was taped on your receipt. I stayed the store for a while, and asked the customers " it is final sale, have you noticed that?" and the sales clerd said, " you should not talk to our customers like that". I said her, I just told them the truth and my experience, if all items are ?final sale?, you should tell the customers everything is final sale, won't return".

The third day, today (Jan.4? 2015?customer service manager yelled to me, " why don't you measure your room?".

I want to report the business play the game of " final reduction, or final sale" with the customers again. My experience happened at the store of "3909 - 99 Street? Edmonton.? and their phone# is [protected].

It really is hard to comprehend how bad this stores' sales practices and service are: I really should have walked out of the store in the 1st 10 minutes when my 'salesman' took a personal call while walking me to show me beds. When I went to purchase the bed I was told I could not use American Express (AMEX); I told him thank you, I'll go elsewhere. Suddenly...the store took AMEX. Mmm. I was told verbally the bed would be delivered in 4 weeks...after a long fight with the store the bed arrived 12 weeks later. It arrived in pieces, no instructions, and missing hardware/parts and we had to pay the delivery guy 'cash only'. The store manager told me to get some screws and 'just drill holes' in my very new solid alder bed. I told him that was not an option...and he told me that was all he could do for me. Long story short -this has been the 'most painful' purchase experience I have ever had...with absolutely not customer service or problem resolution. Think long and hard before you EVER buy from that store...it comes with great RISK.

This company is a joke! Same sort of thing happened with my boyfriend and I in Edmonton; we are still working on resolving it. I am in the process of writing a complaint to the Better Business Bereau. I will give them a VERY bad reputation. If they keep up with this they will go out of business or have their business license revoked.

Obviously a employee at the corrupt company posting above. How any one can volentarly take part in a company that has no credibility . Changes it's name like underware and is falsely giving order times for furniture that will not come in on that time.

If considering starting to look for furniture, why not check bbb first.

Me and my husband will not recomend this to any one. Beware and shop safe red deer AB !

I totally agree. I am another victim. I wish I read the post before I did business with House 2 Home Furnishings in Red Deer.

I placed an order at House 2 Home Furnishings in Red Deer in 2010 when the store manager told me the furniture would deliver to my house in two weeks. Even after 4 months, I did not get my furniture.

When I request refund, I was surprised to hear from the manager the sale was Final Sale. Before I placed an order, the manager did not tell me final Sale and He deliberately put Final Sale in the receipt without being noticed. I communicated the store manager in person and over phone many times, the store manager always said, "It will be within two week."

I check BBB(http://edmonton.bbb.org) rating about House 2 Home on October 22, 2010:

Based on BBB files, this business has a BBB Rating of F on a scale from A+ to F.

I learn a lesson by the hard way (Loss a lot of dollars). I would like to share some tips for any big purchase.

1. Investigate the business: talk to friends, check online review for business' credibility and reputation

2. Do not take for granted what sale persons promise if they are not in written terms

3. Before hand the money and sign the bill, read all the terms such as warranty, refund or exchange conditions. Pay attention to words Final Sale some dishonest stores put on the bill without being noticed

4. Check business rating: use BBB in Canada
(http://www.bbb.org/canada/Find-Business-Reviews/)

5. Choose high reputation store even if paying a little more money
