Home Construction review: Reimbursement and to make sure if this company is not completely legal that they are reprimanded and not able to do this to someone else.

Hello, I hired a local company to remodel a building in order to make it a 1 bed 1 bath rental/ air bnb.. The contract stated everything from new roofing to flooring, bathroom build, adding stability to the 2nd floor and putting everything in from windows, doors, flooring, kitchen and appliances, heating and air, plumbing and septic, and several other things. The time frame was to be done in 3 weeks to 4 weeks max. Its been 5 months.. And there were several things, almost all the work done seemed to have issues. I asked them to fix them and they assured theyd be fixed. Well, last week I had paid him an additional substantial amount of money because he came to me and stated he needed another part of the last of the last pmt per contract because he didnt have the funds to complete the task and repair the work needed repaired. So I talked it over with my co owner and we agreed to pay him the amount requested in order to get it finished seeing we were 4 months past schedule. 2 days later he cursed me and argued infront of his whole crew telling me he would be finished that day. That was this past friday. All the work in the contract is not finished and was left done incorrectly. I had another construction company that came highly recommended to come look at the work that had been done and showed him my concerns. He stated that all of the work this company I hired did will need to be fixed and or redone and several things were not up to state codes. Come to find out the licensing that he had is not legal like I was led to believe. After a back-and-forth text he wanted to speak with me because he said he technically wasn't fully legal. But not before threatening me to take me to court. I am in desperate need of some help. I have pictures of the work done and have another construction company working up a quote to see the cost involved in all the work left to fix and finish... Im afraid I wont have the money for all the work needing fixed and I now have a note to pay off every month on top of all this. Please can you help me.? The pictures would not load. But I could surely email some to someone or something.. Please help.
