a company like Hendrickson Trucking only compensate a driver for the miles between point "A" and Point "B" They don't compensate their drivers actual hub or odometer miles they pay based off of some trucking book guide load brokers use to bid out brokered loads. For Example, traveling from Tehachapi to Barstow fueling then driving from Barstow to Moreno Valley. My starting mileage in Tehachapi was 11149 arriving in Barstow 11239 (90 miles) Then traveling from Barstow to Moreno Valley 11329 a total of (90 miles) Hendrickson purposely paid 75 miles Tehachapi to Moreno Valley and 75 a total of 150. We were purposely shorted 30 miles!
Please keep in mind that these trucks are monitored 24/7 by Hendrickson's GPS /Satellite Communication box. Every communication from the truck generates a location and time and Hendrickson has the ability to Ping the trucks location at any time and go back and historically account for where the truck was. So there is no excuse for the payroll person to say they don’t know.
Every commercial truck driver is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) they have enacted laws and rules to help ensure the safety of each truck driver. Yet at the local level you have corporations purposely out to avoid the basic welfare of the commercial driver, focusing upon the fact that they are moving a lot of freight across the state at the expense of the commercial driver's time. As truck drivers are paid for driving (transporting) a load from point "A" to point "B." On the log book drivers get paid from line #3 Driving. Any time a driver is on Line 4 ON DUTY (NOT DRIVING) The driver is not earning any compensation. That’s right the time a diver is loading at a dock or waiting for someone to unload his truck the Driver is NOT being compensated for his or her time! And here is the rub the dispatchers and recruiters strongly encourage driver to not log anything on line #4 or the bare minimum, because that takes away from your available hours to work. This also encourages drivers to falsify their logbooks, to keep as much of their available time to work for line #3. I was strongly encouraged by dispatch to go back and rewrite my log book so they could dispatch me to another load and keep our truck going and head us back to Sacramento.
This kind of manipulation occurs everyday with Hendrickson!

Dear Renegade
I took my complaint to the labor commissioner and after a court hearing I received over $850.00 in compensation for hours sitting and waiting to be loaded and hours waiting to be unloaded.
YOUR A FOOL, to be lead around like a bull with a ring in your nose when these trucking companies continue to bluff or bully employees into giving up 2+ hours Loading or Unloading, they are the ones laughing all the way to the bank! They are the ones taking full advantage of your ignorance! Every-time an employee is silent, it simply empowers these trucking companies to continue to strong arm truck drivers into giving up their time! your silence is enabling this industry!

I went back and looked at what I was being paid running a route from Sacramento to LA
the rate was .32 cent per mile
I started in Sacramento with a preloaded trailer and headed to LA it took 7.75 hours to get there that is and average of 45 mph. With 45 minuets going to my pre-trip, and hooking to the trailer, stopping for fuel. Arriving on time I still had to wait 3.5 hours to bump the dock, then additional 1.25 hours to be unloaded with all my papers signed ready to depart.
112.64 /13.25= $8.50 per hour.
Nearly out of hours I was able to drive to my next stop. But then again this is where a trucking company would expect a truck driver to hurry up get the trailer loaded before doing your 10 hour rest to head north.

ding to be unloaded.

I strongly disagree with the previous post. First, of all there is no company that is going to pay you while you are sitting at a dock to be unloaded unless it's after two hours, then you should get paid detention pay. Whatever company you're pulling freight for doesn't always pay detention and you have to eat it! WELCOME TO A TRUCKERS WORLD...
