A salesman came to my door for Hawx Pest Control Services and since I was looking for a company so I decided to give them a try. As it was explained, there would be outdoor pest control service and indoor service. Although my main complaint is not about the service, I will say that they never came inside my home to spray. Not a single time. When they would arrive they would spray the outside and leave. I inquired a couple of times about whether they would return to spray inside the house and the people that I spoke with seemed surprised that I expected that service.
You are not told at the time that you engage their service that you are signing a contract for a year of service. The way that it is presented, you pay a flat rate upon signing up ($249.00). They talk fast and you sign on an iPad. What you won't discover until they continue trying to charge you, is that what you couldn't read on that iPad says that you are signing for a monthly treatment. It's done in a way that is incredibly dishonest.
Once I realized this, I told the customer service person that contacted me to schedule my next services that I did not want further services and that I would go ahead and pay the cancellation fee, even though the services and contract were misrepresented completely. I explained to her that the salesperson did not truthfully represent that there was a contract involved. She indicated that this is something that she hears often and that it is an ongoing issue.
Even though I cancelled the service, a person did show up at my home the following week to do pest control service. I explained the situation to him and told him that I had cancelled the service. He was very nice but he also shared with me that this is something that happens frequently and he was not surprised.
What prompted me to file this complaint is the fact that I am continuing to get emails from Hawx indicating that my account is still open. When I respond that I have now spoken to two people and cancelled, they continue to both call and send emails.
Bottom line, the business practices are dishonest and not at all customer friendly. I wouldn't suggest them to anyone that I know.
Desired outcome: Stop contacting me. I feel that the dishonest nature of the sales practice should negate any cancellation fee but I'm not sure that's reasonable given that even though it was done in an underhanded way, I did sign the iPad.
