On June 5th, 2022, I purchased $439.00 worth of plants from Green View. I am not plant knowledgeable and explained that to a very pleasant and helpful young lady from their staff. We picked out some plants based on being resistant to high levels of sun and deer. She steered me to some elderberry plants, and I noted to her that one had a broken branch, and the other seemed a little wilted. She assured me that once they were in the ground they would respond and look great. I paid for my purchases and went home and installed all the plants except the two elderberries. I noted that the plants were going to grow too large for the space available, and resolved to exchange them the next day for something else. I placed the two elderberry plants in my garage in their original pots and watered them both once. The next day, June 6, it rained all day, and had an average temperature of about 68 degrees, so I waited until Tuesday the 7th to return the plants. One of the elderberry plants with the broken branch looked the same, the other plant that had some wilting was now looking very unhealthy. Matt Valhe was the mgr. and told me straightaway that the wilting plant was dying because I had neglected it’s care. I pointed out the that other plant was not wilted and dying, and that I had purchased the plants at the same time 48 hours earlier. I pointed that out on my receipt. I told him I had watered the plants once and placed them in a cool area. He told me I should have watered them twice a day, although the National Botanical Society says once a week after rooting should be sufficient in the climate I live in.

Mr. Valle explained to me that the warranty was only inclusive if I had followed the prompts on the bottom of my receipt and signed up for the warranty online. He again told me I was responsible for the plant wilting, although there was no response about the other plant looking fine (except for its broken branch). He queried me about the girl who had helped me, and I sensed he was going to take some little girl making $10 an hour and make her miserable. I honestly didn’t get her name, but could identify her, but under no circumstances was I going to be a party to her being bullied or harassed. I received a charge back on my credit card for the one plant and left the dying wilted mess they sold me there. All over some $20 net loss to his bottom line.

Desired outcome: I would like to be reimbursed for the plant and my time dealing with this matter. I would like to see the warranty spelled out clearly at purchase, I would like an apology from their manager Matt Vahle.
