I purchased a Yorkshire Terrier from breeder Irene Burns in Jan, 2010.I was told by her that she had been breeding yorkies for 48 years and that she knows her pedigree lines and I could trust her, that all she breeds are teacup yorkies 3-4lbs adult weight, because she knows what she is doing and assured me my puppy was a prue bred Yorkie. She said he was healthy and would be 31/2 pounds full grown and I could mark her words. Her husband even came in the room to asure me that she had no reason to lie or be dishonest.I believed them.I ask her to weight the puppy. She said he was 1lb.4ozs.at 8 weeks old.that would make him 31/2 lbs adult weight according to the yorkie growth chart.I gave her $800.00 she then said his A.K.C papers would be mailed to me.Puppy had direaia so I took him to vet. They found giardia (parasites).I phoned her and she said she knew this and yet did not even tell me.Giardia can be transferred to humans.Giardia also will eat up the puppies nutrition so he dose not grow or gain weight. If not treated puppy will die.I spent 200.00 for his treatment. He now is 6 months old, 7lbs and still growing. She acknowledged the parasites came from her kennel, but would not pay or share expense of vet bill, even tho she guaranteed his health.Papers did not come until I contacted A.K.C and found out my puppy was never registered. That went on for months. My complaint is this.I was lied to. I did not get what I was told I was getting.A healthy Teacup Yorkshire Terrier.I' may have to moved out of my apt.because they have a size limit of 6lbs.This I told Irene.I cannot afford to move .The only reason I was allowed a pet in my apt.is because my Doctor and I felt a pet would be very good for my well being.I am attached but must re home puppy. This has caused me much stress and sadness, let a lone the money.I trusted her.

I purchased a Yorkshire Terrier from Irene 17 years ago and our Yorkie was the best little boy. She is an amazing breeder. Our neighbor did too and we both never had any issues. I also adopted two more from another breeder in St. Clair named Katherina Young who was breeding from Irene 's male . They were all good dogs and we never had any issues at all. They are both good breeders.

So how do all you Irene Burns supporters feel now that she’s been charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty for running a puppy mill in st. Clair county, MI? You can read all about it in the Times Herald. Y’all owe “Liz” an apology for jumping all over her when she clearly had a legitimate complaint.

Hi Liz,
I am really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your new puppy.
Unfortunately things can happen with little dogs so when you get one you kind of have to take a chance.
I did purchase a Maltese dog from Irene in 2001. I do remember that she told me that he will be a small 5-6 lb dog and it turned out to be more like 15 lb. But the vet told us that it could have been a bigger breed of Maltese so we didn't really cared as long as he was healthy.
It turned out to be the most beautiful and smart dog we ever had. Before I found this complain I was looking on line to see if I can find out any information about Irene Burns. It's unfortunately that I couldn't find any other information about her but this complain, and the reason I was looking for her was to let her know that our little Maltese that we bought from her lived for 14 years unfortunately to the date. He was our life and we couldn't be more happy with the dog that was not 5-6 lb but a little bigger.
So I want to say thank you Irene for such a great Maltese...Sire: Elegant Fancy Stardust

I have a six -year-old female Yorkshire Terrier bred by Irene Burns, and she is the healthiest, most beautiful dog I've ever owned. Her face is so beautiful that I get stopped constantly by passerby's when we're out together. Nobody can believe how beautiful -- everyone exclaims, "That face!" A breeder can tell you that in all probability your dog will be a certain size, but the genetic variabilities are endless. Just as with our children, both parents may be tall, so chances are the children will be too. But not always. Both parents may have dark hair and, surprise, they have a little towhead. I was told that my dog would be about 4 lbs. As it turns out, that is exactly what she weighs. I always understood, however, that she could be larger or smaller. It's all about probability, and its never a sure thing. As for puppy health problems, Lilla didn't have any, but it's not unusual to have worms, for instance. My vet was surprised when I had her tested and she was worm free. Years ago, I bought a dachshund from a breeder in Virginia who had a great reputation. My little doxie had raging skin and ear infections from the time she was 9 mos. until she dies at 17 yrs. Cost me a fortune, but I understood that dog ownership comes with responsibility and, while a good breeder lessens the chance of problems, there are no guarantees, as is true of all areas in life. Dogs cost money, not just to buy, but to own. I also find it hard to believe that any condo association allows only dogs under 6 pounds. That doesn't ring true to me, because any toy or small breed is never fully guaranteed to be under 6 pounds. Most rules in most associations require under 20 pounds. I will say, I have thought if I were to get another Yorkie, I hope Irene Burns is still breeding dogs.

You know if you dont treat a dog from fleas, or treat them for heart worm they can die too- you are buying a living breathing animal that will require you to pay money in Vet fees to care for. Giardia is a normal natural dog flora, dogs dont die from it unless you fail to treat it. Just because a dog has Giardia does not mean your going to get it, unless you put the dogs poop in your mouth- do you plan on doing that ? How about letting the dog lick you in the mouth, or lick your food before you eat it ?

It would be your choice to leave your appartment. I am certian they do not come knocking on your door to weigh your pet. Also, how fat is this little dog ? No one can know for sure what's going on without pictures.. why not add some? Get a sewing mesuring tape and lets see how the dog is inch by inch accross the body- with pictures!

Tea Cup is a sales ploy, no one can know for sure if a dog will be super tiny or not until its an adult . I bet you HAD to have a baby right? You could not go rescue a tiny adult dog from the shelter ? Why are you complaining about having an otherwise healthy dog that YOU made the choice to buy ?
