On 2/6/2024 I went to eastern dental in vineland and was seen by their dental director Dr. Lagbe for severe lower molar tooth pain for the past week. I had been taking antibiotics which included PCN and then changed to clindamycin for better coverage without any relief after 10 days of antibiotics. I was told by the doctor that if antibiotics don't work within 3 days they are not going to work, and he stated I need a root canal. To my amazement he gave me a script for antibiotics and stated the person that does root canals only comes twice a month and the next time would be Feb 29- 23 days later. I have very good insurance Horizon Total Care, but I am locked into Eastern Dental for care. When asked if I could be referred out to an endodontics specialist- he refused and stated the case was too simple to refer out. " a first-year dental student could do it." So, I am more concerned as to why I have to wait in severe pain for 3 weeks if it is such a simple root canal. Well, I will tell you why. With total care they have to pay to refer me out for care, so they would rather me stay in severe pain for 3 weeks than give me a referral for proper care. I am a physician that understands delivery of care very well and this type of service to save money is unconscionable and the epitome of delay in care.
Desired outcome: A referral to an endodontist for treatment.
