I called Discount Vanlines the last day of May 2022. They offered me a service for a set amount. They were to move me the 24th or 25th of June from Oregon to Texas. I requested a two-week cancellation as our contract on the house in Texas was contingent on our selling our house here in Oregon. they informed me that they could not give me the two weeks but would instead give me 10 days to cancel if our contract fell out. So, with the knowledge that I could cancel, I put a 4850.00 deposit with Discount Vanlines to hold our dates and price for the move.

The representative I spoke to informed that if I had any questions, concerns or anything that I could call her. So on the 7th of June I called her and told her that I was cancelling. We had no showings on our house. We were not going to make the deadline for the contingency. She told me she would notify the correct department and she hung up on me. The 9th of June I emailed this representative stating that I knew I had called and that she said she was notifying the correct department, but I had yet to hear how they were going to refund my money. I made another inquiry via email again on the 14th of June. No response to my emails or calls. I then called the discover card that I had placed the deposit on and told them I had cancelled the service. I sent them the proof of the email. They refunded my money. Discount Vanlines then sent them the contract and said they needed the money back because there was a 10% fee for canceling. So they needed the funds back before they could issue me a refund. Discover refunded the money.

I have called multiple times, they claim they can't help. I requested the transcripts of all of the conversations from customer service who informed me that they don't do that and that I needed to call the representative back. I have left the rep I spoke to numerous messages but have gotten nothing in return. Since, I have contacted [protected]@discountvanlines who then informed that I was not getting a refund for failure to send an email directly to their email at customerservice. To me this is intentional deceit. There is no way I would have given them a deposit if I thought for a second that I could not get it back. The representative intentionally deceived me, mislead me and withheld information. She could have just as easily told me to email but told me instead that she would take care of it. I let the company know, requardless if it was directly to customer service that I cancelled. They should not be able to take nearly 5,000 dollars for doing absolutely nothing.

Country of complaint: United States

Address: 600 N Broad ST Ste 5 Middletown DE 19709

Desired outcome: Refund of my total deposit for all the trouble. They should not even get the 10% for all the hassle this has caused me, not to mention the interest I am paying.
