We called Dan Dillon with Dillon Anytime Appliance who was listed on the internet as an authorized GE appliance repair business in Richmond, VA. The secretary said the service call would be $69.00. The water dispenser was not working which was clearly explained to the secretary. The secretary also volunteered that Dale Dillon does not recommend GE appliances. He arrived on October 3rd and I was present. Looked at the refrigerator and pulled it out from the wall. Made a few calls, googled on his telephone and returned the refrigerator to its place. He said our refrigerator model did not have a heat device to defrost the water line. He thought could locate one that would work and was going to check it out. He said if couldn't find one we would need to unplug the ref and defrost the line. We never heard back. My wife called him later. He was confrontational and combative and told my wife everything I told her was false and he said we only needed to unplug the refrigerator. She also asked why his bill was $89 vs $69 as quoted on phone but he refused to answer and kept yelling over the phone for her to go unplug the refrigerator. I checked unfortunately afterwards for reviews on the internet and Mr. Dillon has received many complaints from past customers. We would like a correction to our complaint but do not expect any action. However, I would think GE would want to be aware that Mr. Dillon is representing their company in Richmond, VA while performing this type of work much less his secretary is stating that he would not recommend GE appliances.

I've got a considerable amount of background within the industry and thought I may help. As in most brands, a single manufacturer generally doesn't make the best of everything. G.E. has had a horrible time in laundry, but generally does well in fridges. It sounds as if you've had a water line freeze and is thus suggesting you thaw out the line. To help the issue not return, make sure you leave ample space around the fridge to allow the compressor and evaporator the ability to breath. I also recommend cleaning around this area annually. As the fridge approaches a ten year lifespan, you may consider replacing it.
