We rented a dedicated server after reading a few fake reviews on this business on a couple of websites. We were looking for a reliable host for a very important client. They offered us a 'managed' server and charged extra for the 'managed services' and 'daily backups'. We contacted them the second week to install an server side script and they told us that we had to pay for their time despite we were paying extra for 'managed hosting'. They have a really bad phone support and the support guy often will yell at you. We could have lived with the bad support but they had extensive down time and very poor overall server performance. I am not convinced that specs we paid for were actually comissioned. When we decided to move to another company, they became hostile and we had trouble copying over data. It occured to us later that they never made ANY backups at all despite charging us a fee every month. We consider ourselves luckly to be finally have moved away from these guys without much damage.

I would not recommend this company for any type of serious hosting where a reasonable uptime, fast turnaround on service issues and overall reliability of service is important. They simply don't care how important your data is or how much you can loose out by their chronic downtime issues.

Quite bad and dishonest service provider, try lock you in a long term contract then ignore or not respond in timely manner to any service requests.
Was forced to move away long before the contract expiry date ... hopeless service provider

whats up with web 24? I have been using hosts for 15 years +, I registered last night for web hosting, they sent me a lot in for domain control panel, with no information or material regarding web hosting. Its like I ordered a pie and got a banana. Never seen that before, still no setup or emails - do staff actually work on a saturday? no name server information to point domains to to prepare for hosting... this is rubbish, I know 15 years olds running automated hosting setup scripts on servers better than this, unfortunately there just not in Australia. Most companies have the automated setup systems.. Anyhow, complete rubbish, seriously waste my weekend on this when i have urgent work ...

I have been with web24 for 5 years. I have only remained there because it's inconvenient and expensive to pay a developer to move my sites elsewhere.

From a long time customers point of view Web 24 provides a poor hosting service riddled technical issues. There has been dozens of incidents where my sites have gone down for hours on end. I am fed up and do not recommend using Web 24 I'm forced to go elsewhere.

I've found them to be very good and am about to buy another server with them. I'd have more servers with them but they don't yet offer servers outside of Australia, which is a real shame.

I've not had any downtime with them at all in the past year. One thing people get confused about is what Managed Server means. This doesn't mean they'll write your code, manage your code or website content for you. Server management generally means they'll take care of core issues and install some _CORE_ modules, this doesn’t mean arbitrary scripts or code, this means modules that are core to the operation of the service, and not extending the service that exists. Some host providers will go the extra distance and install arbitrary bits and pieces for you, but this is at the discression of staff, it's certainly not within their mandate to do so, and just because they do it once - doesn't mean you can expect it done every time you want something added. This is a common trap with providing service above-and-beyond the SLA, as it creates a false sense of entitlement within customers.

I’m not sure what happened with their staff yelling at you, that's a bit strange, but I’ve only ever been treated very well by their staff.

You say that you had downtime, do you know which DC you're box is in? If your server is in Fujitsu/Melbourne then I can say I certainly haven’t experienced any "extensive" web24 server downtime, as I’ve had no server downtime with web24 that I can recall. Sometimes you might see isolation from international traffic (a couple of times in 2010), but this generally effects everyone, not just web24 (I have servers in a number of DC's in Australia and they'll all feel the same pinch. If I recall, a fibre link to the US was cut a few months back which would have caused havoc with networks all over the shop, and also I believe equinix (?) caught fire a few months ago... These sorts of things hurt everyone in some way or another. It may have been something on your server specifically causing that down time, something that a hosting company in most cases cannot be responsible for causing, however they'll generally do their upmost to get you back online ASAP, even if the fault is yours (and in most cases the fault IS the customer).

I’m not pledging that Web24 are perfect in all regards, though I have no complaints whatsoever, but having been in the hosting industry for many years, providing my own customers with servers and hosting, providing my employers customers with servers and hosting and also being a customer of several hosting companies myself, I know that a common customer mistake is to blame the hosting company for their own short-fallings, which we generally take on the chin and try to repair where possible, both the misinformed relationship dynamic and the hosting server/account itself. :)

Also web24's SLA's don't state they'll install your scripts for you. But Managed Servers on web24 means they'll virtualize your dedicated with vmWare, which means transportability, swift recovery, live monitoring of resources and system integrity and all those bits that you WILL NOT get on non managed dedicated, because they'll not be able to justify the virtualization (vmware licensing is many coins). If you're server explodes you'd be on your own, and then paying their technicians $125/hour for remote hands. Also, $125/hour ex is actually very cheap these days for server work within Australia, but it will work out considerably more than your management costs :)

Has web24 offered you any sort of explanation in response to your assertion regarding downtime? For the sake of transparency it might be nice if you posted the response from them.

Hope this was helpful in some way.

Cheers :)
"Happy" Web24 Customer.
