While on an Alaskan Carnival Cruise aboard the Spirit out of Seattle July 13-July 21, 2022, I had the following terrible experience:

I was completely overwhelmed by the sales pressure at Monarch Jewels in Juneau AK on July 16, 2022. I went there looking for a pendant necklace for $139. I had received a brochure from a gentleman named Chris on the Carnival Spirit cruise ship. Chris was the ship's designated shopping advisor. This certificate offered a price and made me a “VIP” shopper.

While walking thru Juneau, I left husband to have a cup coffee and proceeded to monarch to look at this $138 necklace. As I entered the store I was met by 2 sales woman who led to back of the store, offered me a chair and a drink which I turned down. I told them what I was there for, and they showed the necklace. They immediately brought a continual stream of other jewelry. I was never shown a price for any item at any time but was continually told "it was a price I couldn’t refuse". Another 2 additional sales staff joined the pressure session. I was completely overwhelmed.

My husband entered the store an the male sales staff, once they realized who he was, and he started getting offers on watches, rings, and gold nuggets. Today in conversation with the Carnival Spirit Chris, he informed us the Monarch sales staff told him that I had asked to keep “husband” occupied. That is a lie. I would never asked such a thing.

I was never shown any price on any item. And once I realized what been forced on me, we returned to the store to return the products the manager refused to accept the return. So here we are with around $20,000 of jewelry which I have not even looked at

I want let you know that there is no way I can pay these items. I will do my utmost to provide my experience to others. I am just hoping you can help avoid any legal issues I await your reply and instructions on how I can return these item to you or your designated agent

The Carnival Chris met with me the following evening with a copy of the sales receipt which shows no itemization of any product pricing, and the jewelry valuations. which I was never provided. Salesman Chris set up a meeting at the next cruise port at the Monarch shop with his manager, also named Chris. That was a total waste of tine as he refused to discuss anything with my husband present, and then advised that he had been advised by his management because of legal concerns,m he could not discuss the issue at all.

I wanted to add the fact that did go back to Monarch Jewelry within 2 hours and attempted to return the items. However the shop manager we dealt with was uncooperative and on several occasions, threatened to call the police. The store policy is once you buy it, you cannot return it.We did welcome him to do that but he never did. I cannot think of a situation where the store was as rude and inflexible. We had a friend who recorded the entire conversation and if this matter cannot be resolved with the return of these items, we will have no reservations posting on as many internet sites possible. We hold the Carnival Cruises equally responsible for this outrageous situation. All we wanted and currently want is to return these items from to Monarch Jewelers.

We have sent emails as instructed to both the Monarch customer service and the customer service address which handles the shopping advisor issues. We have heard nothing!

Desired outcome: refund/credit of total sales price $20,400

We were just on an Alaskan cruise this past week, had the same exact thing happen. Have you heard anything back has any action been taken? We are unsure of what to do

We appealed to Monarch Jewelers with no positive outcome, we appealed to Carnival Cruises which took no responsibility, we appealed to Wells Fargo which extended a $31,000 credit line o0n the Monarch Jewelers behalf and have had no positive response. We paid a local jewelry appraised who appraised the jewelry at about 50% of the purchase price, and to top it off, we went to a jewelry buyer who offered $1,000 for all of the jewelry purchased which Monarch had charges $20,400. So my lesson is to never buy anything promoted by Carnival Cruises.
