Around 9.40 am on Wednesday 20th July 2022, I went to the Huntington Bank (Wintrust) – Oak Lawn, together with my wife for a 10 am appointment with the Manager of that bank (Mr. Navarro).
Upon exiting our car we were approached in the parking lot, by the lone Allied Universal security guard on duty (whose name we later learned was Phillip). In a loud tone of voice he shouted at both my wife and I, "What transaction did you come here for!?". I began by saying "Good morning sir" and he again shouted, "What did you come here to do!?". I again said to him, "Good morning sir!" as I raised my voice to match his and asked him if he could not greet customers in the proper manner. He continued shouting that he wanted to know what we came to the bank for. I then informed him that we had a 10 am appointment at the bank.
He then turned and walked off towards the entrance of building as we walked towards the entrance as well. When we got inside, he turned around and asked in an aggressive tone, "Who is your appointment with!?". I informed him that it was with with the Bank Manager - Mr. Navarrro and he pointed to the seats in the waiting area.
My wife went in to the meeting with the manger and during my wait, I observed the Security Guard (Phillip) standing in the lobby as customers entered and very calmly and nicely greet them saying, "Good morning, how are you today?" as he turned and looked at me on each occasion that he did so.
Additionally, he walked around the bank lobby leering at me, as if he was trying to psychologically taunt me, while I sat and waited for my wife to finish her meeting.
Because of the behaviour of that Allied Universal Security guard, we were left feeling threatened, disrespected and discriminated against and would like the proper disciplinary investigation and action taken to deal with that individual to prevent a recurrence of such an incident.
My wife did inform the Bank Manager during her meeting of that incident and he indicated that he would speak with the guard however, I believe that this formal complaint should be conveyed to Allied Universal since he is a direct employee of the company.
