About 100 units got flooded with 2 feet of mud water that came under garage doors with such power it even knocked stuff down in the unit. It happened on Saturday July 29, 2023 and I was not informed until the Monday afternoon. I myself lost about $13,000.00 in damaged goods and there were many more business owners that lost as much or more. Access Storage denied any responsibility, the unit renters were not brought into any kind of meeting or given any correspondence on the disaster.
All Access storage did is mopped out the units, threw everyone's damaged goods in huge garbage bins and told everyone that their units were ready again. I quickly moved out with 5% of the goods that were not water damaged but musty as the complex was not sterilized, disinfected, or even aired out. When I left there was black mold on the walls, the musty smell was sickening and I believe a health hazard. Do not believe their Mission Statement, choose a clean well managed place that wont throw you under the bus.
Country of complaint: Canada
Desired outcome: I believe that Access storage should take financial responsibility for the disaster and help their loyal renters.
My unit was also destroyed during this flood. Have you heard anything else since?
You can add my complaint too the pile. I probably lost $40k worth or inventory (I am a designer with contracting materials/tools/furniture), in addition to a lifetime of family photos and personal items. I did not get in for over a week and yellow mold was everywhere. The movers they hired had no protective gear on and as you said, the stench was overwhelming. Access employees, movers and clean up crew bailed at 5pm and I was left with a waterdamaged, filthy unit and was there until 11;30pm, before catching a 6am flight. Absolutely no accountability. Why did we pay for insurance on the unit, if they cover nothing? Should we be filing a lawsuit? I am consulting my lawyer. will keeo you posted!
