I joined planetsappho with my boyfriend a few months ago. I recently decided to cancel my membership because the site would never let me log on and when it did the members were weird and overly aggresive. I emailed my request to end membership and got an email back saying they wont stop billing until we find your info of which they couldnt. I politely wrote back saying i stopped my membership 5-2-2010 and i wont pay after that just because you all couldnt find my info. Well thats when it all began, i recieved two more letters calling me a liar, a ###ic peice of gutter trash and telling me if i didnt settle my debt with them (of which i have proof of payment on my bank statement) that they would notify my local autorities. I had to get a new credit card # and identity theft pertection at my bank because of them. I then complained on the website and consumer websites and was not surprised to see many complaints against this website and many similar experiences as mine. I thought nothing of the complaints as this is my right as a consumer. The next day i recieved a phone call from a supposive detective with the London police telling me I am going to be arrested and someone from their dept was flying out to extradite me back to the UK to stand trial for my complaints and claiming that I cost them a lot of money. I have contacted the police in London and my local autorities and both said that I am the victim of a large hoax and not to worry. The London police also told me that there is no one in any division of their dept with that name and rank. These people need to be stopped. Not everyone has as thick of skin as I and this could have been, for many people, a horrible and frightening experience and i would hate for it to happen to anyone else.

I've had the same as the last person - their billing methods are legal, but not ethical. I signed up for a 'trial' - three days for a little over $6. My account said this would expire in those three days, so I thought nothing of it. Nowhere in my signing up did it mention that the trial would 'roll-over' into a full month's membership! They put it in their 'terms and conditions', which they link to in the sign-in process (but who actually reads those?), which is why I say it's 'legal' but not 'ethical'.
While I was paying for the site, I received NO emails, no winks, no messages, NOTHING. The people I'd approached before were silent. After a month and those three days, and after complaining to the 'powers that be' on that site, my account finally expired. The DAY it expired, I got three messages and a chat request. TOTAL SCAM. Ladies, beware. Planet Sappho is NOT a good place to try and find love.

My experience wasn't the same with the billing. I got off lucky there. I kept my membership month-to-month. I decided to cancel with 2 weeks left. I had to ride out the two weeks, but after that they didn't bill me again nor give me any problems.
My problem was in another area; the site is den of scammers. I seldomly seemed to talk to real people. People constantly disappeared very quickly and their profile with them. The ones who kept trying to talk to me showered me with "soul mate" talk and were strangely aggressive. Talking about meeting on the second or third chat is just well, creepy. Then came the eventual declaration these people were "stuck" or "visiting" Nigeria. Sorry, pretty obvious what was going on. When I complained about this to the powers that be, I received a form letter suggesting I check more profiles out. They didn't even address my complaint, which by in turn meant they had no intention of. So there are two things going on at planetsappho.com. First, they don't care about being a literal den of scam artists. That should chase you off. If that's not enough try second, they are in on the scam and they don't care: money is money. The bottom line ladies is avoid this place, it's terrible . The person you think you are meeting is probably based in Nigeria and has motives on your money, not your love.

I couldn't agree more. I have attempted to cancel my account for 3 days and all I get back is emails threatening to have me arrested for contacting my credit card company to dispute the charge, Several emails have called me a liar and a nuisance. I asked them to remove my account and issue me a refund. All they did is remove my account. I voiced my issues on why I wanted a refund and they said I was insulting their business ethics, yet there replies back to me have been in bold face print, calling me names and such. Now it seems they are starting that I'm harassing them. I believe we call it fighting for our rights. I have some pretty think skin and it takes more than some company to threaten me ... I hope no one else has to go through this but please if you have, voice your opinion on here, If there are enough people out there that this is happening to. We need to take legal action to make it stop.
