Kirkus paid book reviews is a rip off. Don't buy their service. In March 2018, I paid $500 for a review that seemed insulting, incompetent and boring. My fine novel, "TIN CAN" about a mutiny aboard a destroyer in the Tonkin Gulf during the Viet Nam-American War, is beautifully written and dynamically exciting but it was summarized as "no standout in Vietnam War narratives." It stands out like a shooting star. The crew takes a fully-armed Navy warship and gives it to the Red Chinese in Canton! See it at — meeceblog. wordpress.com. No standout indeed. They will insult the quality of your novel and charge you 5 times what independent book review sites will. I and most other victims do NOT believe they read all the books they review. Disgruntled underpaid reviewers make this service feel like a costly scammmmmm!
I did get some deserved compliments but these comments are SURELY not five hundred dollars worth:...conversations aboard the ship and belowdecks veer from good-natured joking to nihilistic musing, often from one moment to the next... There are moments of striking depth in this book ("The lives of all are staked on the performance of each")
... uniquely vivid language...

They KNOW they're a ripoff and intend to stay that way. I emailed two different customer service staffers there demanding a refund or a re-review and was refused. I wrote a paper letter to the CEO and it was ignored. When a busiiness will not satisfy its customers it is not safe to use.
