Dr. Todd Malan hurt me! How my lipo turned into a nightmare.
I was a woman that like most of us wanted to improve myself and get a better body. I had children so losing the baby fat was very difficult for me. So I started thinking about liposuction and doing research and came across Dr. Todd Malan from Innovative Cosmetic Surgery Center. I went and had the appointment at which Dr. Todd Malan said that I was a perfect candidate for liposuction and had nothing to worry about. I thought the consultation was rather fast but I trusted him. Then the staff told me about paying and setting up the appointment for surgery.
I was asked to pay in cash. That seamed a little odd but I felt somewhat pressured by the staff at Innovative Cosmetic Surgery Center. I had my surgery which went well but a few days after I started developing bumps in my abs. I went to Dr. Todd Malan who said that those were normal and would go away. A few days later the bumps started to hurt and became purple. I tried calling Dr. Todd Malan and Innovative Cosmetic Surgery Center but he was never there anymore. Unable to deal with the pain I went to the emergency room where I found out that I had internal bleeding.
It has taken me more than 6 months to recover and my stomach is now disfigured. I started digging deeper and found out that Dr. Todd Malan has been in front of the medical board a few times and HAS PENDING MALPRACTICE LAWSUITS. I am still trying to fight this but Dr. Malan keeps avoiding me. I have seek legal help.

I have been considering liposuction for some time and have had several consultations usually performed by a nurse or practice sales woman. Dr Malan spent an hour with me explaining the different technologies he uses and how he would individualizes these different approaches to meet my needs. I was very impressed and went home to do my home work on the topics he suggested I review prior to making a decision. I ran across several complaints online which at first concerned me until I realized that nearly all complaints seemed to be about the same time and although different names were used seemed to be all coming from the same person. I checked the Arizona Medical board and Dr Malan is board certified in cosmetic surgery and has never had a malpractice claim or even a medical board complaint. In this day and age of people immediately resulting to malpractice for any reason I find it hard to believe that if there really were these unhappy patients why would no one have ever filed a medical board complaint or malpractice claim. I’m a bit disgusted that people will go online and trash a doctors reputation with easily discovered lies like medical board complaints or malpractice cases and other people defend them and then trash the doctor when he tries to defend his reputation. What is wrong with these people.
Three of the other doctors I considers who had no complaints also had hundreds of amazingly happy reviews that all sounded way to generic and guess what, all three of these doctors had medical board complaints and several malpractice cases. One even went to jail for stealing drugs from where he worked.
Do t trust anonymous complaints.
Look at their actual record.
Anyway, I finally got up the nerve and did my procedure with Dr Malan. He and his staff were amazing. He called me the night after my surgery just to review things as I was a bit foggy after surgery. He gave me his personal cell phone number and when I did have a question a week later responded to me within minutes by text.
I admit it was very gross having drainage after surgery but I was prepared as to what to expect and was given all supplies needed to get as dry as possible.
I love my results!
My wife is scheduled for a consult as is my brother and his wife.
Dr. Malan is a great doctor and I’m sure not everyone is as happy as I am but there is no excuse for blatant lies.
I visited with Dr. Malan today and was quite impressed with his technique. I truly do believe that he is competent based on our conversation. The staff was pleasant and was not pushy at all. I especially liked Michelle and the front office receptionist. I typically like to have a general conversations with people to get a sense of who they are. As for Dr. Malan, he was professional and knowledgeable and I like that a lot. I'm not sure if he should be labeled as a BCPS if he is not performing multiple types of cosmetic surgeries. I believe that Liposuction takes skill and precision and should be a specialty. I would NOT let a board certified doc perform any surgery with minimal experience. I typically like going to someone who specializes in their craft as oppose to a jack of all trades. Also, I've worked with two plastic surgeons throughout my career for many years and yes, they were board certified. However, they too had complaints against them. As a testament to Dr. Malan, If and when I decide to have my procedures done. I will post my before and after pictures here on this site. People are so quick to throw someone under the bus based on a few complaints. Also, I can appreciate a doctor standing up for himself. When there is nothing to hide one should be respected for addressing the negative comments. It actually says a lot about his character as a person. Aside from being a doctor, he is a human first and shows a passionate concern for his work and skill. I sincerely hope that the negative comments were false. But, I have a feeling that he is the go to doc for glorious results. In addition, I trust my instinct and it has never let me down and my instinct urges me to go with Dr. Malan, M.D.

I am not a patient of Dr. Manlan; but just looking through the AZ Medical Board I found that Dr. Todd Manlan has NO actions against him. FYI if you recheck your sources you'll see that he is not only certified in OBGYN but also cosmetic surgery.Not cool to discredit a Doctor due to your own lack of self-esteem. I will definitely be making an appointment soon.
I, too, was a patient of Dr. Malan's and had a very disappointing experience and surgical result. I paid to have my upper and lower abdominal area done using the laser lipo method and Dr. Malan didn't do my lower abdomin at all - even though I paid for it. I was told, "the pubic area is a separate area and there are additional fees to do this". At no time was this explained to me, otherwise I would have paid for this "other" area along with everything else that I had treated and paid for. The areas he did do are lumpy, uneven and my skin is very saggy. I chose this doctor and his laser lipo method because I wanted to address the possibility of sagging skin following surgery with the skin tightening(laser lipo method). During the consultation process I was told by the doctor himself that I have great skin and I was the perfect candidate for the procedure. After I started to complain about my disfigured abdominal area he told me " I had weird skin texture". That was very disappointing. What concerns me more about this doctor is that he advertises plastic surgery center, but is not a plastic surgeon. He was trained as an OB/GYN and has complaints even in that arena of treatment. Also, I recently called the board of medical examiners and they informed me that they had recently received complaints about Dr. Malan and that they no longer consult with him regarding lipo complaints filed against other physicians. This should tell you everything you need to know. Look for a board certified plastic surgeon when having any type of cosmetic procedure. It could save your life.

I have never had a complaint ever
We also circle all areas with a marker on day of consult and morning of surgery as cosmetic patients will sometimes claim that they thought that we were including additional location. The mons pubis is a separate are form the stomach and this is a standard with all liposuction surgeons.
I can promise you this is no old employee! You can check and see that i was a real patient seeking help in fertility.
I was a patient of Dr. Malans several years ago when he was an OBGYN, i told him i was concerned about a lump on ny breast and after a quick check up Dr. Malan told me it was nothing ti worry about and i was too young for breast cancer. Well years later I'm finally recovering from stage 3 Breast Cancer! If Dr. Malan would have trusted my concern i would have not almost died and would not be without a breast today. I think it says alot that the doctor has addressed these complaints. It is very easy for anyone to say anything behind a screen name and ruin or bully someone on the internet. The reality is when looking for a doctor the foremost authority is the medical board. As a society and educated consumers its time to realize rating sites have no value when looking for a professional.
I have looked up lipo and this name came and so far it has been bad feedback and the Dr. his self comments on it everytime, how old are u ? and how non professional, this sucks, i dont think ill be going to him.

Dr. Malan is an excellent doctor with amazing results. This is the same post by the same person over and over. When considering any doctor the only site you should consider trustworthy is the medical board. You will find these claims have NO MERIT! Please do check for yourself at the Arizona medical board.
-An employee can be fired for STEALING and then go on the internet and destroy your reputation. I work at Dr. Malan's office this is exactly what is going on. Innovative Cosmetic Surgery Center is working hard to resolve this BOGUS posting.

I wanted to improve my body and get rid of those "trouble areas" and after hearing about Sono Bello and going in for a consultation, as well as talking with another patient in the waiting room who had it done and was very pleased, I decided to have it done. I have never been happier! I saw results the very next day and in this first month have been seeing improvement every day. Of course there has been some pain, during and after the surgery, but come on, you are having a device put in your body and having fat basically sucked out, how can you not expect to have some pain. You know they say "no pain, no gain"; that is true with every thing in life, inlcuding lipo suction. I would and have recommended Sono Bello lipo surgery to my friends and back it up 100%!
