We ordered white oak flooring in May, 2015. We paid $2941.00 all in advance, and the flooring was supposed to arrive 4 weeks later. After 4 weeks the wood did not arrive and Alec Browne was full of excuses. Two weeks later the wood had still not arrived. I cancelled the order and asked for the money back. Alec Browne said he would send a check in two weeks, and it never arrived. I complainted to the BBB and Alec Browne stated he would give me the money back. It never arrived. I have complainted to the Consumer Protection Assocation and the Transvania Sheriff office. He tells all of these people he will give the money back. He never does. I want my money back.
It is good to hear that I am not alone in my efforts. I have not gotten a dime back. We went to small claims court. We won but the person who was supposed to be getting the money from Alec Browne told me "he is an old man, with a run down car, you should stop picking on him." He colluded with Alec Browne to make sure I did not collect anything. I tried shutting down his website, and that did not work either. My step mother grew up in Brevard and told me that the Klan runs the town. If you are member you can get away with any crime. I tried going to lawyers in other cities, after they investigated Alec Browne they refused to take the case. You might want to contact ABC news in Asheville. They did a story on Alec Browne. We too were swindled in Spring of 2015 by Alec Browne for $2515. He kept saying they were milling the wood soon; they were backed up; it would arrive in 2 more weeks... Our contractor even contacted him and offered to pick up the wood while he was in NC, & Mr. Browne said oh no, not to worry about it; he would be shipping It out soon. After that Alec Browne never again answered his phone or returned any more of our messages. We researched through the bank, the bbb, and finally the police of Brevard, NC. We finally have recently received a letter from the Consumer Protection Division saying they have not heard from Alec Browne regarding the complaints they have sent him from us, so they can't do anything. If we want to proceed, they sent a brochure describing the process of Small Claims Court. :/ So... have you continued to try getting your money back? What have you heard since?
