Lilnudists Unethical practices, sick cats

I recently found a kitten from lilnudist in Jacksonville owned by April Arguin Boggs and her mother Wendy Arguin. I put a deposit of $350 down on a $1, 200 kitten. We were supposed to meet on Aug. 21 to pick him up. A Day or so before pick up, she changed it to 24th, and then changed it once again to the 30th. She finally confessed when pressed for an answer why, it was because all her kittens were riddled with ringworm. She said her mother brought a known cat into the cattery that had been treated previously, (apparently not good enough because all her cats in her cattery contracted ringworm.)

I asked her if my daughter could get it, was it contagious? She said no, not if you wash your hands. Well I hung up and did research, and yes it is very contagious, very hard to get rid of and can take up to 18 months to eradicate. I am a nurse I cannot risk getting it and infecting my patients nor do I want my family exposed. I politely asked for my deposit back stating we don't feel comfortable with this medical situation. That is when April became very defensive and nasty, saying all catteries have it and it is not a big deal. She said she would ask her mother. She called back saying she was not giving our deposit back and we are no longer a suitable cat adopter because we don't want to deal with a cat that has medical issues. We responded with the kitten has not been received, we were buying a 100% healthy kitten and you can't guarantee it won't come back after the pills are given. I asked how you can give me a health certificate if the cat is sick. She said it doesn't matter we are not letting you adopt it and offered no other future cat from a litter. This is not fair I thought I was buying from a reputable breeder who belongs to TICA, it is not my fault she brought a sick cat in her home and infected all her cats. She says it will be cured after pills and topical in five days and said most breeders would not have even told me about it and gave me the cat. I responded with wouldn't my vet have noticed it on the vet visit you are required to go to in 72 hours? She said we are terrible owners because I do not want to risk getting ringworm fungus in my carpets, new cat bedding and cat tree I just bought. It says you must throw out everything because the spores can last 18 months on those things. Did April throw out her bedding, cat swing tree and clean everything with bleach? No the video cam she has proved that. So she cannot guarantee me a healthy animal and just said too bad, a deposit is a deposit and is keeping my 350 dollars.(Mind you this same cat had a $350 deposit before us confiscated by Lilnudist probably for the same reason) that's $750 she stole in deposits and ended up selling the cat to someone else on the same date of our scheduled pick up at $1, 200.(Was that reported to the IRS?)It is not right, she says a deposit is a deposit. I can see that if we just decided to back out for no reason, but this is not the case and something she caused. She brought an infected cat in her home and infected the cat I was supposed to get. I can't risk that for myself or my immune compromised patients at the hospital not to mention April is a dental hygienist, can you imagine?

LiLNudists Cattery prides itself in going above and beyond for every kitten and every kitten adopter, as well as conducting ourselves in a very transparent nature. Despite all best efforts we are working with living creatures, and babies who are growing and building their immune systems, there is no way we can guarantee that every kitten will be 100% healthy before, during, or after an adoption. It is true that this kitten contracted the very common fungal infection, dermatophytosis, also known as ringworm. This fungus is present in the soil and can be contracted by animals and humans alike. This is the same fungal infection which causes the very common condition athletes foot.
When we originally discussed with the adopter, we had offered that we MAY be able to deliver the kitten (Casper) to them as we were planning a trip driving from Jacksonville, FL to Bokellia, FL to have one of our queens bred and they were on our route. That plan however changed and we were no longer making the trip; despite this we still offered to meet the new adopters half way to their home which was going to be over a 3 hour round trip for us and did not ask for any additional compensation for gas money or time.
Drawing near to the date for him to go home we noticed he and his siblings had contracted the fungal infection and began them on proper treatment immediately. He presented with only one quarter sized spot on his side. Due to the prompt treatment and non-severity of the infection it could be fully treated and revered within a 2 week period with cleaning, medicated baths every other day, medicated topical creams and the oral antifungal trebenifine. We let the adopters know that he was being treated for the fungus and that we could deliver him home that week with the medication for them to continue as we did with the other adopters, or they could wait until he completed the treatment and we would deliver him to them on the 30th.
It was a few days later the adopter texted to say that she now did not want the kitten because she wanted a 100% healthy kitten. I called immediately to ease her concerns and let her know that is is unfortunately a very common infection in catteries, but is not a big problem when caught and treated promptly as we did. I spoke with both the adopter and her husband at this time and I advised that we would be delivering him once he was treated and healthy with a signed health certificate from our vet to prove so. In the state of Florida a health certificate cannot be issued if the kitten is not found to be free of any parasitic, bacterial or fungal infections. I even advised them that we had a veterinarian adopting this kitten’s brother who was fully aware of the fungal infection and still proceeded to adopt the kitten, that if it was such a horrible thing she would not have reserved the brother. They were still concerned that the treatment wouldn’t be long enough or that it would re-occur, so I even sent the adopter a link from petmed.com; which is the informational resource used by all veterinarians; which gave information on trebenifine and its use and duration of treatment which states 2 weeks in non-severe cases. I asked them to look it over and call me back.
After reviewing the information briefly the adopter’s husband called back and stated that he was “not buying it, ” and that he wanted a full 100% refund of his money and proceeded to “school” me on the fungus and that essentially I had no idea what I was talking about and couldn’t prove the infection would be gone; basically was very condescending to me. He already began threatening me that “this wouldn’t go any further on social media” if we returned all of their money. I told them I would have to speak my mother as this litter of kittens are technically hers and is her money to return or not return.
We discussed it and decided that we would not refund the deposit for several reasons, first being that they had already committed to adopting Casper, signed the contract and we had him off the market for them for almost 3 weeks time. He was no 12 weeks old and 4 pounds so to re-home him we would likely have to drastically reduce his adoption fee. Also the contract they signed clearly states the deposit is non-refundable and doesn’t guarantee that the kitten will remain in exact perfect health after it is signed. My mother and I had also already purchased $46 worth of special food to switch the kitten onto eating before going to his new home because the adopters refused to continue the current diet he was on. We had invested all of the time of writing the contract, reviewing all aspects of the adoption including diet consult, kitten preparation and home coming instructions, the free month of health insurance we provide; as well as multiple other emails, phone calls and text messages communicating and sending photos of their kitten. We had an estimated total of about 25 hours invested into this adoption by this point in time.
There are times when adopters cannot follow through with an adoption for reasons beyond their control, and even in those circumstances we do not refund deposits once a kitten has been held for any length of time, however we offer to them to adopt from us and the deposit will apply to a different kitten in the future when they are able to adopt. This could have been an option for this family as well, but they would not agree to anything except a full refund. These adopters were very criticizing and completely un-willing to be reasonable about the situation and they are now slandering us all over social media and posting negative reviews everywhere they can find.

Below are photos of Casper clearly not "infested" with ring worm.

Lilnudists Selling sick cats, voiding contracts and blaming buyers

I am the owner of the sick cat (Mira) that was sent to us by Lilnudists cattery / April Arguin / Kristin Herstine. When the cat was sent to me, she was small, however she was a baby and was told she came with a clean bill of health from their vet. When she arrived, she would not eat the Raw food that April told me she was being fed the whole time, this cat would not touch it and would only eat canned food. She would eat 2 large cans of food a day. As time progressed, the cat started becoming lethergic and losing weight very quickly (we had her just over a month). I notified April as soon as I noticed something was wrong and took her to the veterinary hospital here in Virginia Beach, VA. The Vet at the ER who also used to own a Sphynx, came in and evaluated her. After looking at her, she removed a vial of yellow fluid from Mira's abdomen. The Vet said that this was THE telling sign that the cat had what is known as WET FIP, which is almost always fatal in cats and comes from households/catteries with more than 5 cats and is a mutation of the corona virus that many cats carry (I do not have any other pets). The vet wanted to send out the test. I immediately called April and informed her of the situation. April demanded that I do not send out the test, because the vet didn't known anything and wanted to speak to the vet directly. April told the vet that her cattery had an outbreak of Garadia not long ago and wanted the vet to giver her medicine for worms, and antibiotics. The vet did not think this was the case, however after April argued with the vet, the vet gave her what she wanted. The vet was only going to give the cat prednisone to make her more comfortable. April then demanded that I return the cat to them to be nursed back to health. I took time off work the next day to drive the cat to their breeder in Northern Virginia. After driving 5 hours to meet up with theother breeder Jayme DesDunes, the cat was rudely SNATCHED out of my hands as we were saying goodbye to her and Jayme sped off quickly.

I returned home later that night, and received a text message at 4:00 am saying the cat had died, only hours after she was given the medicine by them that the vet didn't want her to take. I was told that she would then be sent out for Necropsy by their vet (which Kristin works for). A few days later the necropsy came back, saying that nothing was found. I only received a cut off screen shot (page 3 of 3) as proof, I also wanted a second opinion but they said that the corpse was no longer available. April then started texting me accusing me of neglecting her and that the reason she died was my fault. Mira was spoiled rotten and treated like a queen. When I received this text, I immediately when back to the Vet Hospital to speak with the doctor again. The doctor read the text and said that she sticks by her diagnosis of FIP and was appalled that these accusations were being made. The doctor told me that if they believed the cat was neglected that she would not have been returned to me. April then went on to say that the contract was void and that I would not be getting a replacement cat, or my money back and that lilnudists would no longer do business with me.

I did not receive any paperwork on the cat until 2 weeks after we got her. None of the health guarantee information was included, when I did contact April about the health insurance, she sent me a code that was expired with no explanation as to why.

A few weeks later, I received a facebook message from another member who also had the same issue happen with her cat that she received from April. It turns out that one of her cats was my kitten's sister. She ended up ok, but the other cat that she received from them started getting the same symptoms that Mira did and the cat ended up dying the exact same way. April then saying that the cat was neglected. This is a horrible scam this breeder is running, the customer service is poor and they are stealing peoples money by refusing to honor their contracts and selling sick cats. Do not believe anything that was written in April's posts.

What I have written is factual, and I stand by it. STAY AWAY if you value the life of your pets. I hope that nobody else has to experience the heartache that we have gone through.

The death of Mira has sadly been determined to be a case of neglect. The owner Patrick was delivered a beautiful healthy kitten who came fully vetted, spayed, neutered, microchipped, all vaccines, FIV/Felv negative, with a written contract and valid health guarantee. We contacted the new owner soon after her arrival and was told she was not eating very well. We gave advice on how to prepare the food differently to begin to get her eating better. We contacted again about one week later and were told that she was doing great and was eating well. We were not contacted again until about 3 weeks later when Patrick asked if it was normal for the kitten to be lethargic and not playful. He was asked to send us photos of her to assess her condition and we were shocked upon what we saw. Mira who was the image of health when she left our home was now an emaciated skeleton. We advised he immediately bring her to the emergency clinic that something very awful was wrong.
Once at the veterinary office he messaged saying the vet thought her condition to be caused by the viral infection FIP. I asked to speak with the vet as to try to convince her to at least try a bacterial/parasitic treatment as we had cases in the past when a kitten was assumed to have FIP and given a death sentence, for it to turn out to be a treatable GI infection. The vet did speak with me and prescribed the medications to the owner. I did advice the owner that it was not necessary to send the liquid extracted off for texting as there is no test to prove FIP definitively it would still only be based on assumptions and either way there is no cure if it were FIP.
We then offered to repossess Mira in hopes of nurturing her back to health, to which the owner agreed. Nothing was promised in the form of a refund or a replacement kitten, just the offer to do everything we could to keep her alive. My partner Jayme who lives near to the owner in Virginia offered to drive 2 hours that very next day to meet with Patrick to pick up the poor sick kitty. We also called and got the medications put on stat order and Jayme picked them up and paid for them at her own pharmacy. Jayme and her daughter were appalled at the condition of the kitten and took video and photographic documentation. Despite her best efforts, Mira passed away shortly there-after.
We then paid for a necropsy to be performed on Mira even though the contract clearly states this cost is associated to the owner. We felt very certain that neglect was to blame for her condition and her passing but wanted to know of any other possible causes. The results of the necropsy came back inconclusive; there was no identified cause of her death. After thoroughly reviewing all of the circumstance and her condition before the owner ever brought her in for medical examination it was determined by ourselves, as well as our personal veterinarians that this kitten was neglected. Her condition likely began by a simple case of GI imbalance and upset from the stress of traveling to a new home which is very common in kittens. However the new owner only aggravated this by removing the kitten off the high quality diet she had been eating and feeding a very low quality canned diet of Friska’s as was reported by the emergency vet. GI upset of course can be easily corrected and treated, however the lack of care and medical treatment for her caused her condition to deteriorate too far gone.
The bottom line here is, we have a signed contract do not form the owner in which it does not state that will re-imburse money, nor replace a kitten unless they die of a congenital defect or the condition HCM; which this was proven to be neither. Even if this kitten were to have passed away form FIP another condition not specifically guaranteed in our contract, we would have gone above and beyond and offered a replacement kitten if proper care and medical treatment had been given to this kitten. The condition of poor Mira before she was ever brought in for medical treatment is appalling and despite our 10 years breeding we have never once seen a kitten this emaciated and in poor condition. The fact that this owner wants a refund or replacement is ludicrous, we had full evidence and full right to in fact charge him with animal neglect, but choose not to as to alleviate stress.
Below are photos of Mira the day the owner 1st contacted us that there was a problem before EVER bringing her in for medical attention! The rest are taken only 12 hours later when she was in our possession. The neglect is MORE than apparent!

What a horrible ordeal. So sorry for your loss. Please contact the Florida State Attorney's office in Jacksonville at sao4th.com or [protected] to report this matter. Florida Statute 828.29 allows the State Attorney to investigate complaints about pet sellers that may violate this comprehensive statute. It is not the breeder's decision whether you get your money back. The statute is very clear that any animal that dies based on a disease contracted at the seller's location is subject to a full refund and also possibly for vet fees incurred. This matter would be prosecuted by the state and would not cost you anything. I assume that the cattery was in Jacksonville.

Best of luck.
