Family Dollar discriminatory and verbal harrassement

As a surprise to many of the stores customers, I was an african american male employed at this store. And ofcourse they were rightly surprised. I should have never been hired, because I endured discriminatory labor harrasament, language and slander, from the stores manager and assistant management. The female store manager had very innappropriate verbal fits of rage towards me in front of customers- (marry)as well as continuous threats of writing me up for problems i had while training and learning my job.

The female assistant manager (Monikay) had the same innapropriate fits of verbal anger, and was more sincerely verbal about it. when i called to give reasons for quitting and apologize for resigning, Monikay stated that "she did'nt care, and theycould find 3 or 4 more, just like me any day. I guess that apology was not accepted.

The former female assistant manager, (Shannon), atleast when i was employed, appeared very emotionally unstable for a manger, by stating on regular basis to me how much she hated her job, and the store manager Mary. She miscounted my assigned cash drawer on regular basis while training me. Yet I was threatened to be written up for the short miscounted drawer (twice).

Shanon was my shift manager and in reference to her emotional instability, one day, while seeming even more emotional Shanon bought a pregnancy test from the store and told me that she was going into the employee restroom to see if she was pregnant. I was torn between if it was more than I wanted to know or needed to know about her private affairs while working.

Shanon payed more attention to her boy friend while working (than training me). Her boyfriend, who was not an employee but always present in the store, standing near the register area, would be present in the store just standing there sometimes her whole shift, made it quite uncomfortable for me while they "smooched" the whole shift.

My lack of sincerity for Shanons social life and pregnancy situation, I guess prompted her to, for what ever relevance, slander unjust rumors about my character to some of the stores regular customers making it quite uncomfortable for me to stand and serve them at the register, or even work and be a thorned presence in the store. Therefore I did quit and appease them all, without pressing any discrimination charges, that probably would'nt hold up anyway.

In conclusion, most of the customers were correct in being surprised to see me working with these individuals, and wondering how could I be getting along with them. I was'nt, but i kept a good attitude during my service to customers. And, In this case, Yes, "the customers are always right". Ask them for the proof.

Wow. So much drama at a minimum wage, dead-end job... It does sound like work conditions weren't the greatest, but you failed to provide any evidence of discriminatin. Sounds like its just best to find another job.

Family Dollar rudeness

The past couple of months I have shopped this store; every time I have been in there the manager is there and a taller blondish woman. If you ask the manager a question she rolls her eyes and sighs loudly like I am a idiot! They both talk on the phone to whomever and igbnore customers lined up at register. The blonde lady never smiles and is rude and hateful and I have never gotten a thank you from either one of these people. I will never shop in that store again! I will travel 17 miles to the store in Caldwell, ID. if I need something from your store but I will not go out of my way to shop at any of your stores! THANK YOU!
I also do not appreciate dogs frequenting you store, very unhealthy.

The last couple of visits that i had made to a family dollar located in Richardson, Tx were the rudest moments of my life. I needed help finding an item and I asked one of the managers or assistant managers and she was very rude to me. She made a mean face to me and responded in a very rude manner. She was short and had green eyes and I think her name started with an S. She and another lady where sitting on top of some boxes of paper towels or something like that. They had boxes all over the aisles and they were just sitting there and laughing, they weren't working. To my perspective you dont treat your costumers this way. I think if they need help you as an employee you should help with a nicer atittude. This wasn't the last time i went back to that store. The second time i went back they were there again sitting and laughing and not doing their job. I saw two other ladies working at the front and i asked them for help and they were much nicer than the other young lady with green eyes. I think the store manager of that store should be fair with all her employees and make them all work and not just two and the other young lady not work.

Thank you for your time.
I want to be anonymous.

Family Dollar - fired for not following co. policy

I worked at this co. for three yrs. I was asst. manager for almost two. I worked very hard and did everything I was supposed to do and went the xtra 100 miles plus. I loved my job, until I got totally screwed by my store manager. When your on duty you are expected to take deposit to the bank put in drop box and go back after bank opens to get any change you...

Family Dollar attempt to steal

On May 15, 2010 approximately 6:50 p.m. my boy friend and i was shopping at this family dollar like we normally do. After grabbing a few things we headed over to the cashier to pay for our merchandise. While getting my money out to pay for my things my money fell on the floor, I didn't notice it at first, but by counting all my money at the register a twenty dollar bill was missing. While counting my money the sercurity guard that was standing in front of the store walked over behind me and turned right around, and i watch him as he was dragging his foot back to where he was standing. By him walking behind me and turning right back around thats what made him look suspect, so I politely ask him did he see or moved the twenty dollars that was on the floor he replied no. So as we was going back in forth with words i walked over to where he was standing in there was my twenty dollars on the floor where he dragged it back to. My boyfriend picked up the money then we ask if we could speak with the manager and they say we had to come back in the mourning. We went back the next mourning, spoke with the manager and he apologize for what happen. Now i don't feel safe shopping at this family dollar because the man that tried to steal my money is a security and still employed here.

In Family Dollar Stores that have security, the Security Officer(s) are not employed by FDS, they are by Contract from a Security Firm, all the store can do is put in a complaint to the Firm.

Family Dollar over staked and falling on customer

Ruld cashier, uneducated, loud, and should not be dealing with the public, I will never go to that family dollar again. Located at lockwood and kelly, times are bad as it is and to go into the store and spend hard earned money and the cashier acts a fool it is a shame before god. Then have the nerve to say it seems like the tote falling is a personal problem. If they had been put up correctly it would not of happen. Family dolllar needs to have a check your attitude provention period for cashiers.

Talk about uneducated, learn to spell? Yeas, something falling on you is bad, except that the totes are stored at ground level in "most" Family Dollars, unless your Thumbelina. Ever work in retail? You would be rude too if you had to deal with the level of ignorance and disrespect that "most" customers afford to the cashier(s) and other store employees.

Family Dollar discrimination/racisim

I was wanting to know why is it that store #5053 at 1905 34th Street, Lubbock, TX has the section with mouth wash, tooth paste, hair/nail items etc. blocked away and does not allow small hand baskets provided by the store in this area. Other stores in Lubbock do not have this set-up. The manager was rude when I asked why and watched me only as I shopped throughout the store. I had a few other items I needed to purchase but could not do so without being able to use my basket in that area. Now on another occassion, twice with the same manager, when I was in my professional attire after work, nothing was said about me being in that area, shopping with a small hand basket. This was only last month.I am wondering does this rule only apply when a customer appears to him as someone who is not able to afford products at your store. My reasoning for shopping with your company on May 2nd at 5:05pm was to purchase small items I needed to complete dinner and to purchase hygiene products so that I did not have to go to a larger grocery or department store. I did not appreciate being the only told to leave my items at the register as I shopped while others did not have to do the same. I am hoping the issue is resolved with that manager.

That is still no reason to make someone leave their items at the register while the other black people are allowed to shop freely

Policy IS policy. Then what he tells you goes. If you don't like what he's saying, you have full rights to leave the store and take your business else where.

As for business attire and regular clothes, Do you go there in a full on Armani suit one day and the next day go there in half ripped jacket and cut off jeans with slits on the butt and stains? because that would be my definition of 'someone who cant afford to buy those things'

what does the comment about the other black people shop freely have to do with anything? If it really had to do with racism (if all parties were black) then that would be a moot point because now he's watching you not because you're black, but maybe because you are shady. And if you are not black and everyone else there was, again, I do not see how that is racist, he assumed that you couldn't pay it? he may have just not liked the attitude, i do not know. but i am not seeing anything that has to do with racism anywhere.

And about the store, I didnt know all stores had to follow a certain policy, if one store wants to do things a certain way then they are more than allowed to.

but lastly, there are thousands of stores, I am quiet sure that even if that store was the closest store to your house, you could have walked out of the store and went to another one and purchased your items 2-3 minutes later than you would have originally purchased and been back home in a timely fashion to cook and eat and do all the other cute things involved.

Wow. You seriously just gave out your phone number over the internet on a public forum site? That's just asking for trouble. If you're this stupid, I bet you would be stupid enough to steal from family dollar. Get a job and get off welfare, and go buy your dogs some real food.

Family Dollar fear to go to work

I'm a assistant manager at store 10. I have made phone calls everyday for a couple of days now. No one calls back so here you go. I have 45 plus pages of data. On tuesday the store managers friend who used to work there came in to bring jenny pizza. I said hey aj he said you are still nothing but a piece of # and walks out. Jenny ask me what he said I told her and she laughs and says don't pay any mind to that. I over hear her talking to her friend of 15 years who also works there and they worked together at kmart for years anyway she is telling her laughing about it. You should have seen her face. Jenny told stacy that I can't write her up for not doing her job I have no athurity and to stay away from me. Jenny also told stacy a cashier about aj coming in saying that to me. I'm also told that I can't smoke on family dollars property. I have to be 15 foot off property or I will be fired on spot but work for 14 hours in a day with no break cant leave the store. I have been written up for stuff I didn't do. I was told if 3or more buggies got gone from store I would be fired on spot or pay 150 a buggie. Jenny has also told a cashier about my written tranfer request word for word. This is all in a week. I have day by day diary of events that happen in that store. District manager never answers the phone. I have requested meetings nothing. I fear to go to work because I never know what is going to happen. My job is threatned all the time. I went to hospital on wensday because of stress from my job phone calls from employees telling me things. I don't want to be there any more this has been going on for 7 months. I can't take anymore drama. I thought a store manger was to keep there mouth shut. Right of privacy?

I also work for Family Dollar and our whole entire staff is harrassed by our store manager and the dms tell you that they cant tell her what to do in her store when you contact them with a complaint. My store manager lies about store policy and refuses to give me or the other employees an employee handbook. I have had my comments from a Pip read to other staff members (I was issued a pip from the store manager because I was 2 minutes late and I called the manager who opens the store late at least 15 min everyday for the past 4 years to tell her that there was construction up the street from Family Dollar and that I would be a few minutes late because I am always on time she says okay when I got there she gives me a pip stating that I need to be on time and ready to work my shift and if I was late 3 more times that I would be fired. I said I called you to let u know i would be late its not like i didn't call she said it doesn't matter. I couldn't believe it that after the 4 years I have worked for the company everyone calls if they are going to be late I have worked and hour later or so because someone called her and said that they were going to be late and I stayed on there behalf but I get a Pip anyway and I wrote under the comments exactly what I just said she read my comment to two employees in the store and they told me because they were uncomfortable with the whole situation when I reported it to the Dm he tells me he cant tell her what to do in her store. I said to him so its ok for me to get a PIp for being a 2 minutes late and I called and if I am late 3 more times anytime in the future I would be fired he said yes. So I asked how was that fair the manager that gave me the pip is late opening the store at least 15 minutes 5 out of seven days a week and he knows it because I have to call him to locate her because customers are outside angry because they cant get into the store and there mad at me because I work there and I don't have a key because she is late opening the store every morning and I'm there on time but im only the cashier I have to call the dm because there are customers outside flipping out at me and delivery trucks are angry because there on time schedule but i get a pip because I was 2 min late and when I reminded him of this he tells me we are not talking about her we are talking about me. So I called the alert hotline and sent emails to the corporate office and they sent someone from loss prevention out so I could file a complaint in person and everytime I have a problem I just do the same thing. Things are a little better but at least I have my complaints on file so if things escalate Family Dollar cant say that they never knew what was going on I try to tell the rest of the staff to do the same because maybe if more of us file a formal complaint Family Dollar will have to take resposibility for training there store managers to be proffessional at all times like they expect us as cashiers or asistant managers to be professional in the workplace at all times because if we don't we will be fired which means they should be fired as well.

Hi,

I'm in Mass. I had problems with my boss, once..so, I called the Div of Unemployment. They told me that I was better off getting fired and then challenging the firing..at the unemployment office..then, quitting the job..It's a mean world out there and jobs are scarce..

Try to ignore those people. Send a certified and registered letter (from the US Post Office) politely asking for a meeting with the district manager. When you get the appointment, politely present your proof of harrassment and ask for a transfer.

While you're waiting for your appointment, speak to someone at your community center..a counselor/peer/mentor..someone you trust and respect..ask them for advice.

It the situation persists, go to the unemployment office..run by the state, your state and file a complaint.

Good luck.

Family Dollar rude customers

I have worked at Family Dollar for seven months now, and i never thought I would be there near that long. I'm a college graduateand was downsized when the Property mgmnt company I was working for went belly up. I have never encountered customers like this in my life, but this ### takes the cake. Mr. I'm too good to even be in here argued with me about using his out of date coke coupon telling me it was only expired by one day. My reply was the coupon IS EXPIRED and therefore cannot be used. He went on to say food is outrageous, gas has gone up, taxes are skyrocketing and then looked directly in my face and said "How many kids do you have that my tax dollars are supporting?"

I dropped his money on the counter and said to him-Im done-I'll go get my manager-I'm not dealing with you. Where do people get off!

Family Dollar employee with big mouth

I was in the Family Dollar in Chandler Indiana and over heard Peggy (a manager) speaking very rudely about someone in the community that had recently gotten theirself into a bit of trouble. It is not our job to judge anyone! That is God's job! Anyway, Peggy was speaking very badly about this person and did not care who was listening...what kind of manager is she or was she? Would she want anyone to talk that way about her?

She was telling about what this person had done (which again, is not her business to repeat) especially in a place of employment!

I over heard her telling Lisa not to get close to or be nice to this person because she is friends with this person in trouble! Why is Peggy telling other employees to treat customers in a rude way?

I AM A MANAGER MYSELF AND NO MATTER WHAT I THINK ABOUT SOMEONE I DO NOT TELL MY EMPLOYEES TO TREAT CUSTOMERS THAT WAY BECAUSE IF IT WERE NOT FOR CUSTOMERS WE WOULD NOT HAVE A JOB...NO MATTER WHAT THEY HAVE DONE!

Hey Peggy, u need to SHUT UP and JUST DO YOUR JOB!

If you had a oversized bag they should have made you leave it at the front because are 55 year old White women that steal too! So your complaint i do not understand!

Family Dollar bad attitude

I was in the store on homer rd. and there is a girl in there with dishwater blonde hair and she is the rudest person i have ever came in contact with in retail. Not only is she rude with customers she was rude with her fellow employee on that day. I wanted to return something without a receipt so the cashier called for management and hear she come frowning with attitude. When the cashier told her that I wanted to return without receipt the girl said rudely Ma'am you have to have a receipt to get cash so you will have to take a store credit. I was fine with that but it was the way she snapped at me about it that upset me. I then said okay that will be fine. She then rudely told the cashier and i quote "you have been here long enough to know what to do. why didn't you tell her that to begin with?"

I told her to not worry about it that i would keep the item. The cashier was so sweet and handled it well. In turn I felt horrible about causing the chaos. The manager girl stomped off in a huff and I just exchange my item for something of equal value. I asked the cashier if that girl was always that rude and even she said yes.

I wonder how many customers she has run off? I know if I walk in and see her there I will turn around and go down the road to freds.

That is one of the cleanest FD stores I have been in for sure but there is a bad apple in there.

I can't believe you replaced our sweet and friendly hard working store manager at store #8240 with this monsterously rude woman. She is loud and obnoxious, the one time I was in the store, as I won't be going back, I had to wait for her to finish smoking out the front door to get checked out. I am sure I am not the only customer you will have lost due to this decision. Furthermore the store manager in there now does nothing but run her mouth about the previous manager. Very unprofessional.

I went to Family Dollar I'm 136 in Concorde keep on some ladies items which were half price this went very well I got my items and went home I showed them to my mom hey wanted to get some for herself any ride we went to the Family Dollar close to her on Concord Parkway in Kannapolis she's got her items just like mine only they were $2 higher than mine were anyway we got home look at the receipt I realized we had been overcharged by $26.90 we got nothing for half price anyway so I called the lady and she told me to bring them back the next day and she would make it right I did . She or her manager would not give me my refund back so needless to say I will not be going to Family Dollar to do anymore shopping at all I hope this keep someone else from being ripped off like I was!

I am so sick of Family Dollar on Galatin Avenue. Ray (the Manager) never takes care of the property. My daughter and other kids wait at the bus stop on the Coffey Street side of the store, the sidewalk is still packed with snow and icy, kids are sliding and falling. Ray should have shoveled there and put down salt, it is very dangerous. There is always trash laying around also.

He hires the youngest employees that talk on their cell phone the whole time they are checking people out, very unfriendly and miserable people work there.

I started driving to Dollar General instead of walking to Family Dollar because everytime I go in there they are either out of bread or milk...He does not know how to do inventory apparently because he is always out of things several days before a truck comes in. I go into Dollar General and they are NEVER out of anything and always have so much more than Family Dollar.

Another major complaint is that sometimes when I go in there, no one is at the front register and I will ring the bell and it takes 5 to 10 minutes for someone to come up to the front. One time this past summer there were 5 people at the register including myself and no one was up there and the lady behind me says "this is bull sh--" and walked out with the basket in hand stealing the stuff from the store.

There needs to be new management and new employees with actual rules like "No personal calls while checking out customers" and "look customers in the eye and be nice and happy" I was a cashier for 5 years and I was good at it, there is NO excuse for what goes on there.

There needs to be ACTION done about this!

My name is Debbie, I have recently not made a smart decision and got into some trouble, I live in the small town of Chandler. No matter what I have done it was my decision to do it! Peggy who works in the family dollar in Chandler has been talking about me to other employees in the store AND IT WAS OVER HEARD BY A FRIEND OF MINE! IT IS NOT HER JOB TO JUDGE ME! IT IS GODS JOB TO DO THAT AND I HAVE TO ONE DAY STAND BEFORE HIM AND ANSWER FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE!

PEGGY WHO WAS THE MANAGER OF FAMILY DOLLAR HAS BEEN OVER HEARD TALKING ABOUT ME! I don't care that Peggy judges me that is her stupidity! I also DID SHOP AT FAMILY DOLLAR. I won't shop there anymore! Peggy has told the girls who work in the store that they should not be nice to me because I do drugs, it does not matter what I do or don't do drugs...it is not peggy's business to tell employees of that store not to be nice to me! I WAS A CUSTOMER OF THAT STORE! Who does Peggy think she is talking about people at her place of employment in which people can over hear her?

I may have made a mistake but I MADE THE MISTAKE...LEAVE ME ALONE!

This manager at family dollar store at Greenville is rude to customers and employees.
The store is in White Horse Rd. next to Pete's restaurant.
two weeks ago I went to exchange a picture frame, She treat me like I was nothing. I waited for more then 30 min, before she even try to take care of my exchange .
The cashier keep on calling her; The cashier apologize to me, but the manager did fuss to me an her about calling her too many times.
I ask the cashier a number to call to complain and she said. " She wasn't no authorized to give up a number".
Did some one know a number to call and complain?

I worked for FDS for 8 years, the idea of how things are to work is great. all of the programs developed should work, but they get lost in the implementation. they go from VP to RVP to DM and at this point SURE becomes SH**. and the only one that gets the blame is the store manager. the tools provided would be more than enough but the RVP takes from them and then the DM takes some just to look good. and the manager must make do with what is left over. 52hrs or more at salary pay. if only they would follow the program the way it is ment to be. there would be no better place to work. if only they valued their most valuble asset, THE STORE MANAGER. by not taking care of the manager it just makes it a bad place to work were everyone fends for themselves in the store and this can be a financial disaster from a LP point of view. this is another area that is not running as the books say it should. Just about everyone who works there starts to still from the company because of the way they are treated or because they see that no one cares, if you report it you get investigated and you get fired. do not rock the boat, do not bring attentiion to this region or district because you will be fired... what is that all about? you must play their game or you will not be in the game for long and they will make sure you do not find work anywere else.

Family Dollar rude treatment

On Sunday Feb. 15, 2010 went into the store . I only saw 2 employees, one checker and one person stocking shekves. The 1 checking was doind her best to keep up with checking people out. There was about 10 people in line when she called for help, the lady finally came up after about 5 minutes and had a attitude when she opened up. She never even greated anyone ! No name tag she was about 38-40 stocky bulit and brown hair. I went to her and had about $25.00 worth of items, there was a sign saying please don't give us 50's or 100's, so I then said I am sorry but I don't have quite enough so I will have to give you a 50, she then jerked the 50 out of my hand and never even acknowledged me in any way except to push my change in my hand . I then told her she was in the wrong business and if she didn't like her job she shouldn't take it out on customers. I will let you know I will not shop Family Dollar again and plan to pass the word about that store! Word of mouth is by far the best way to let people know about stores Dollar General has never treated me this way at any of their stores ! I worked retail for over 3o years and know how to treat people maybe you all should have secret shoppers to find out how your cutomers are treated. I have read other complaints about your stores so I know I'm not the only one complaining.
Thank you for listenting to me.

I am totally unhappy with your Family Dollar Store. I have never had such a rude, disrespectful, insensitive employee of your store in my life. I will not go back your Family Dollar Store again. I was originally going to go to Dollar Tree, and stopped to pay a little extra from the Family Dollar Store on North High Street in the Short North, in Columbus, Ohio. I am thoughly discussed with the treatment I recieved. Remember, The economy is in a recession, Jobs are Scarce, and I dont have to take the employees treatment of me while I was there., AND THERE IS TOO MANY COMPETIVE STORES THAT WOULD APPRECIATE MY BUSINESS. Darious, An Afro-American is TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS SEXIST DISCRIMITIVE UNCARING ATTITUDE I HAVE FOR YOUR STORE. I WILL NEVER, NEVER GO BACK. If you really cared about how rude your employees were, you would make your site more accessable. You dont deserve to be in business, when you are not concerned about how your hired employees treat the "Paying Customer". GET A GRIP, OR YOU WILL NOT SUCEED IN THIS COUNTRY. I have owned and operated 3 businesses in my life, with 1 still going strong, and believe me, Customer service is the utmost importance of any businesses, DO YOU GET IT! JC. my email address is: bakerjeff1957@rocketmail.com. If you dont reply, then I assume you dont care. I will take my business elsewhere, and remember, for every 1 dissatified customer, that one customer will tell a minimum of at least 7 other people. Go Back to business school, because you apparently didnt learn before you embarked on this business venture. JC

Family Dollar defamation of character

i worked for this company almost a year ago. i thought that my manager was and fair distant person until i realized that she was racist. 1st she wrote me up for something that wasn't true she then realized that she had lied and told me to tear them up but i didn't. this was for friday then when i returned to work on and wednesday i was later told after unloading the truck after my store mgr, the other asst from my store, and an store mgr in training had left the offices discussing this missing deposit then they came and got me ( mind you i was only employed with the company 3mos). then while in the office and deposit that was mine came up missing and the mgr had scratched out where the other asst mgr name because she signed off verifing this deposit. make and long story short my mgr told people that it was in my car. how will she have know that. the police wanted to go further but because they said i was set up but the dm stop the case. but before they told the police that they found the money they had gave the asst who had the money her job back.

Family Dollar racism/discrimination

I visited the Family Dollar store approximately 7:30p.m. on December 15, 2009. My five year old son and I entered the store and my son said, Momma can I get a soda(which was in the cooler).I told him yes. Terri the manager who was working at the cash register and who is also the store manager told him that he could not get a soda until he paid for it. She did not communicate that with me, she told my five year old son. I asked her why couldn't he get a soda and she told me that it was the policy that they had to pay for the soda first. I informed her that there was no where on the soda refrigerator that indicated you could not get the soda until you paid for it. She insisted that I had to pay for it first. She said that he could not drink the soda. I asked her what made her think that he was going to drink the soda because he only asked if he could get one. She was very degrading to my son. I told her that my children are not allowed to open things before they pay for it. I don't understand why she felt that my African American son was going to open the soda. I asked her for the number to the Family Dollar Corporate office and she gave me the District manager's number instead of the corporate office and she told me that she was not allowed to give the number out. The number that she gave me was a cell phone number [protected], when I called it no one answered. I had to retrieve the corporate office via internet. This was a very degrading experience for my family and I. She would not give me the number to the corporate office, instead she gave the number to someone else.

The damage that resulted was that my son had to witness the racism and discrimination against him. What happened to him was a typical case of racism. There was not a sign posted that stated that you have to pay for the soda before you get it out of the cooler. She did not give him an opportunity to get to the drink out of the cooler. This should not happen to anyone, especially a child. Policies should be posted and apply to all, regardless of race.

Now it's 2016 and the Employees at Family Dollars are still Rude and Racist. I tried to enter the Family Dollar in Lakeland, FL on 98(North Florida).
Before I could get all the way in the door a young female employee said "sir you need to leave!". I said what's going on, she repeated in a nasty tone "sir leave now", as she pointed her arm outside, I don't believe she could have even seen me clearly considering it looked like 4 employees behind the register and the Sun was directly behind me. I sometimes go to a Family dollar on 92 and Woodland Ave.. in Lakeland, the Manager watches as I go to the beer section any time he is there. Are Family Dollar employees trained to spot people they may not like the looks of or what exactly. The sooner they shutdown the better off this area of Lakeland, FL will be.

Family dollar has a history of racism. My wife worked at Family Dollar for a while and when we brought in our beautiful grandchildren who happen to be of mixed race, her manager at the time, Roxanne, made it plain that she hated black and mixed race people and looked down on anyone of color. When my wife complained to the DM she was brushed off and six months later let go on a vague charge of "not following company policy". I witnessed this same woman several times following a black person around like they were a criminal (I'm talking 65 year old black ladies who I personally know to be people of unimpeachable character) while white people were never followed or accosted. She also talked loudly about "having to keep an eye on these people" or "they will steal you blind". My wife and I both filed complaints with the corp.office and were shunted aside to some minor functionary who laughed while taking the report and was never heard from again. This same manager was promoted again and given a bigger store so that should let you know where Family Dollars heart is concerning racism. By the way, my wife and I are both white and I was much more racist than I want to admit until I held my first mixed grandchild in my arms and God washed all that ugly feeling out of my heart and replaced it with love.

I was at a Family Dollar in Tulsa Oklahoma In the Gilcrease Hills District on West Edison, as I was standing in line the manager of the store named Becky went behind the cash register and started yelling at the cashier telling her the register had to much money the young lady went on to telling her that she had been swamp and had know help . at this time the line had at least four and she the manager took the money out the register and said we could be robbed with this much money holding the money in the air, she was talking to this emploee bad the employee was just in tears and then she said you are fired! it's something wrong if you fired an epmploye for having to much money in a rfegister that you cannot see and then the manager goes up and wave 500 in the air that;s when you can be robbed so she need to be fired. I feel like this was a wromgful termination and she also fired her in front of all the customers this manager need to go back to training because you do not terminate an employee in front of customers.

True, the manager should have handled it better, but there is no way to call that discrimination. The only way to call it that is if another person, whatever the race is, is treated the same way. Is the manager the same way with every customer regarding the soda? I am a store manager of a family dollar, which on my coolers states that the soda must be paid for before beng consumed. The major fault of the manager is that she sould have the signs ordered for the coolers. The other thing she needs is better customer sevice skills

Family Dollar bad service and racism

My boyfriend, my daughter, my grandbaby, (who is 2 years old), and myself went to this store to buy a dress for my grandbaby. My boybriend and I bought some items which included 4 breakable cups. Upon checking out I noticed the cashier putting the cups in the bag a little roughly. I commented to my daughter that she should wrap those because they could break. My daughter asked the cashier if she had some paper or something to wrap the cups in. She said no and handed my boyfriend some plastic bags and stated "you can wrap them yourself". I commented that that was not my job and that I didn't get paid to do that. As my boyfriend and I walked away I said to my boyfriend in Spanish that that was their job and that she should've wrapped those cups for us. I then hear my daughter say to the cashier to call the manager. When I asked my daughter what was going on she said that when I started speaking in Spanish the cashier had rolled her eyes so she had asked her if there was a reason for rolling her eyes like that at her mother. The cashier then said to her "they're my eyes and I can roll them if I want to" which at this point my daughter asked for the manager. The cashier told her she could call the manager herself. By this time I am standing in front of the register because the cashier is yelling all this to my daughter. I told her she needed to calm down. At this point the cashier began coming around and out of her register yelling "You think I give a f*** about this job!" All the while walking in a threating manner towards us. She came right up to us and was yelling at us saying "she started talking in their language and I know they were talking about me!" The manager came over and asked what was going on. My daughter began to explain to the manager what had happened, the cashier returned to her spot and grabbed the dress and items my daughter was going to buy and told the manager you handle them! I told the manager to check us out herself but she was calling her superior on the phone. All this time the cashier is yelling about how "she was speaking in their language" I told her it was a conversation between me and my boyfriend and none of her business. I was pretty irate by this point. She proceeded to tell me "you want to go outside, you want to go outside" meaning let's go outside and fight. That's how I perceived this. I told my daughter to get the baby because I really thought this cashier was going to come over the register and hit me. My daughter is on the phone calling the police because we felt threatened by this cashier. She yelled at her manager "who you calling" and snatched the phone from her and proceeded to tell the other person on the phone that we were yelling at her. Needless to say police came, nothing was done because they happened to be "buddy buddy" with this person. We were told they could do nothing because she had not touched us. And that there were 4 people in the store that said it did not happen the way we said, even though a customer came up to the police and told them the cashier had come around and was threatning us. I am very disgusted by her behavior. My grandbaby was standing next to me and my daughter. If this person had hit one of us or tried to fight us my grandbaby could have been hurt! What kind of training do they give these people. Be rude, beat people up and insult their race if you don't want to do your job! I am a constant shopper at this particular store because it is close to where I live but I will go OUT of my way to go somewhere else and shop at Family Dollar's competition before I allow anyone to treat me that way. Family Dollar you need to give your employees some serious training on how to treat your customers. If I don't buy you go out of business!

We all know that you started this confrontation. Your family is total trash. I am sure the manager is the one that called the police not your daughter. You are shopping at a dollar store, what do you expect in terms of service? Purchasing a dress at a dollar store for your "grandbaby"?!?!? Classy!

Family Dollar injury

I was injuried on the job and the manager and District manager both said they were not concerned because it was not workmans comp. However it was and I got to the point that I could not stand for extended periods of time not lift heavy objects. I started going to the doctor in June and the manager Bonnie McCormick was well aware of all the doctors orders as I presented each one to her. She refused to accept the doctors orders for 2 weeks off and in order to keep my job i worked a few less hours but my condition worsened. Again the doctor requested time off and again it was denied. This has been a real stressful ordeal with this manager and the dm is not better he sides with her not matter what. On Sept. 26th i talked with Bonnie and ask her to take me off the schedule for a few days. On Monday Sept. 28th I went in to talk with her about me cashiering in which she had a job position open and she said she couldn't use me and terminated me.

I filed a workmans comp case. I was put on light duty. Two days after I went to the Doctor I got a PIP (write up). The write up was for something very basic. I was given a PIP for not mopping. My Manager had told me that she would mop when I close and vis versa. When the write up came from the DM; she denied that we had that agreement. As I searched the portal for company policy, I discovered that the morning crew has the option to mop. My manager denied that she made that agree ment with me. What is a real sad thing is - she, my manager told me that she told the DM that we had that agreement. When I talked to my DM I was made aware that my manager told her we had no such agreement. I got a second pip. This was within a 1 week period. I was written up for staying to late without notifying a manager. I was told the vice pres. was coming to our store at 8 am. I was told that the store must be 100 percent recovered and mopped and cleaned . In a nut shell, the store had to be 100 percent up to par. I did that. We received a pretty good report. subsequent to the inspection by the VP, I was given the write up for staying late without authorization. I was told that the store had to be 100 percent before I left. It took me and my cashier 2 hours to make sure the entire store was 100 percent. The only reason I was written up was because my manager would not work extra to compensate for the extra hours. She is on salary. Our store was rated good. We passed inspection but I was written up. By me and my cashier staying late; we majorly contributed to our store receiving a good report from the VP. Our DM, Alexandria was given a good score for our store but rewarded me with a write up. This company is so backward.

I was told today by my manager mildred albert evans: I must work any hours that I am asked to work without exception. Our schedule is changed as many as 5 times per week. I was told today that I must come to work even on my day off if I am called to do so. She stated that I mentioned on my application that I am Available anytime therefore I must work any time they call me. Mind you--- this is not within my schedule. If I am off, I must come in if I am called. This is a requirement. No exceptions. I must be flexible she says. I am not being paid to be on call. Actually I am not on call. I get paid when I arrive and clock in. What if I am in California or on a trip on my day off. Am I going to get a write up? Am I going to get into trouble? That is what my manager told me! Any lawyer out there? Give me some advice! Thanks Manuel Martinez

Family Dollar bad management

I too worked at a Family Dollar Store, and though it was a fun place to work. But the harassment from the District Manager (Tim)was unbearable. Our store was always kept clean and neat for the customers. We did everything we were suppose to do(the way he wanted us to do it). Every time he came he did nothing but *** and complain, asked who told you to do that (of course he did, but denied it). So as a result our store got low rating from him all the time, but the messy store across town always got high ratings. My co-workers were intimidated by him, we complained but got nowhere. They do treat the employees terrible they expect you to work hard for low pay, Especially the Managers they want them to put in a 80+ hour week.

I am a college student that lives close to the Montrose branch. I visit the store almost everyday to shop a little and I also try to ask it they are hiring I have filled out an application a couple of times but never hear anything back. I also make a point of asking if they are hiring and I am always told no. Here is my problem, management at the store always tells me no but in the last four months she has hired two employees and they never seem to work out. What I have noticed about this store is that the manager is of Spanish decent and only hires Spanish speaking employees. I find this to be a little predigest of white applicants is this how Family Dollar would like to be perceived.

I have only worked at Family Dollar for 3 days and it has been the worst experience I've ever had in my 10 years of retail. When I was interviewed I was told I'd be working 20 hours a week as a cashier and would have 3 days off. I have worked 24 hours in the past 2 days, not given a work schedule, no w2 forms filled out, no other documentation on company policy or other paper work completed. When I discussed this with the manager, she simply shrugged it off and said she'd get around to it when she has time. Now I'm wondering, will I ever get paid? Am I even in the system? When I expressed being unhappy about having no set work schedule, being on call or told day to day (not asked, told) when I will come in the next day, the manager told me I was making her angry. Well, being expected to work 12-13 hour days 6 days a week makes me angry. Those hours are ridiculous even for a store manager, and even more so for a cashier.Very disorganized, very unprofessional. They simply do not care about the employees, they treat them like dogs. The assistant manager told me 10 people have walked out of there after only working one day. I may not show up for a fourth day, for all I know I've been working for free not having the appropriate paper work filled out. Stay away from this company!

I had to do a 22 hour shift while I was seven months pregnant because of the stupid floors!
They got a company to come in and wax the floors. It was only supposed to take three or four hours.
I was there for 22 damn hours straight! Not to mention it's not a good idea for a pregnant woman to inhale those fumes. I had to sit outside the back door.
To top it off, I figured "we're in this together" and bought the four on the crew some pizza. They ate the pizza and three of them left the other one to wax the floor by himself.
We were there until FOUR O'CLOCK in the morning! I then had to return to work seven hours later.
It was a nightmare!

And to answer jeffersontr75's question, no matter how much we cleaned that store, it was never good enough. Furthermore, we were lucky to be given 30 hours per week. Anymore than that and you'd get written up if it isn't authorized.
