Erie Insurance Group - Homeowners Insurance

My elderly parents have had Erie homeowners insurance for a while. Their home in Franklin, Tn was damaged by a storm in June of 2023. No progress is being made on this house, and they have now been staying in Sonesta Suites for 5 months with still no progress being made. Erie's response to all things has been extremely slow, and basically appears that they...

Erie Insurance Group home policy

My son switched to Erie this past summer because I have had Erie for over 30 years for auto and home. This past month (Oct. 2023) he got an email which was forwarded to him through his agent 2 weeks old and stating his policy for the house would be cancelled in 3 weeks because of his roof. I asked my agent if he got a new roof would it resolve it. My agent said if I could get it done he would then ask his underwriter for approval. So I did. I even sent him a picture the day the roofers were doing the work because I was racing against the clock. The cancellation would have taken place midnight on a Tuesday. I sent the final completed pictures and didn't hear back so I called the office only to find out my agent only works 3 days a week. I had that office forward the pictures to the underwriter on a Friday. On Monday I contacted my agent and told him I can't wait for the underwriter to read his emails and please just call him. I didn't hear anything all week and called my agent one last time before the end of that week and he wasn't there. I advised my son to apply for new insurance the Friday before the Tuesday deadline of cancellation. So needless to say I cancelled my home and auto policy of over 30 years and my son and I went with another agency. My agent led me to believe the new roof would solve everything. My agent was loyal to us until he wasn't. Several people told us to sue. What would you have done?

Claimed loss: 3 roofers told us the roof had life left in it but you were going off satellite pictures to use for cancellation of the policy.

Desired outcome: $9400 for new roof

Erie Insurance Group Erie Agent Kevin Copas, Frankfort, IN

I use to be employed by Mr. Copas when he was with American Family Insurance. However, I keep getting mail from his office for quotes & I have sent 2 times already to remove mine & my husbands name as they come separately. I am an Insurance Agent & I do NOT want mail from him this is violating do not contact law. I have pictures of what I sent back. It started in August of this year and every month since then.

Yes I was let go by him 14 years ago but it was the best thing that ever happened to me so that is not the issue if he says something. I have been selling insurance for 25 years and I was in the agency prior to him being hired by American Family and ran the agency until he got licensed and training.

I decided before I filed a grievance with the Department of Insurance and since Mr. Copas's office can't comply with the requests I would contact Erie first.

Missy Herrington (Hill) and Dean Hill

Desired outcome: I want removed from his list and him to be strongly reminded of the Do Not Mail List same as the Do Not Call List once they have been contacted to be removed from their list.

Erie Insurance Group - Medical claim

We were involved in a MVC in November 2022 with one of your clients. He was at fault. He was charged with failure to yield the right of way. We hit the back end of his pickup truck and our vehicle was a total loss. While the pay off of our vehicle was handled pretty quickly, the medical claim has not been settled and we are coming up on a year. We have...

Erie Insurance Group Auto insurance mistake

So, I had switched to eerie after finding out they had better rates then state farm, and with me having gap and a huge car payment, of course I had to have full coverage. So, saving a few bucks was good. All until eerie totally screwed me. When I switched insurances, they asked me if I was employed, I had told them I am a student and I also deliver door dash. Obviously, that would require me to have to pay a bit extra though, because you have to apparently have commercial insurance coverage as well when working for any place like uber, lyft, door dash, etc. Whoever the [censored] was I spoke to never added it, and I totaled my unpaid off car and they denied my claim! Even though it was their mistake! Same things happen when I had state farm, I specifically said do not withdraw any money from my account via auto pay, and what did they do? They withdrew it and overdrew my husband's account! These insurance companies are scandalous, they make up rules as they go along, and I swear I have not found one who is trustworthy, there is always a trick up the sleeve, or a reason they will deny the claim. The truth is these companies fill find every way to make it look like an act of pure innocence. Well, I am filing a lawsuit against eerie! I am also dropping them as an insurance company

Desired outcome: I want some type of compensation for their mistake!!! I have no car and I am financially struggling!!

Erie Insurance Group Claims Service

I called in about a new claim. I am not a customer. Their customer had ran a red light as I was going through a green light, so I was in a head on collision. I am in quite a bit of pain, some of which is coming from my head.

The man who answers the phone does not handle claims, he is supposed to just take my information and have a claims adjuster call me back the next day.

However, the claim has already been reported by one of the other drivers and at this point the accident was 2 days ago. I waited so long to call because of the pain I was in.

This man is talking so fast and I keep trying to tell him to slow down but he won't. It's like he doesn't understand I was just in a head on collision.

He says I can't find out about getting a rental car or reimbursement until I talk to the claims adjuster when they call me tomorrow. He doesn't know anything about that I have to wait to talk to them because they have to do an investigation. However, the police have already cited their customer.

I really need to get to the doctor, but they are keeping me from seeking treatment because of this.

Erie Insurance Group Very unethical

Received a quote regarding hazard insurance. Purchased a home with a chimney/flue in the garage and was told I had to remove so I did. Agent came to take photos, a few hours later I received a denial email because of the debris!

Desired outcome: I went with another company who gladly took me as a customer and didn't judge me on my personal belongings. I feel discriminated against as well.

Erie Insurance Group Long time customer, cut off without chance to make right.

Hello Erie,

I have been a low risk, good customer, with Erie Insurance, ever since I graduated from college, ( I am 47 years old)and got my own insurance. I am a responsible driver, with no accidents, (knock on wood) and was just cut off my car insurance policy because of a mix up with payments.

I didn't receive anything but regular bill statements, and then suddenly, a cut off notice for May 14, with absolutely no chance of renewal. I have been having health problems and will be going for a hysterectomy soon, as a less complicated biopsy, was not possible.

I am behind, but when I called to catch up, I felt like throwing up, to learn, there was no notice, and no chance to catch up, on my payments.

When my agent contacted me, with a quote from another agency, for the same automobile, their price, for me as a new customer is twice as high, which made me realize suddenly what Erie Insurance is trying to do.

I have been a loyal customer for all these years. But, that means, my premiums are probably a ton lower then what they want to get out of me.

So, they stoop to what I usually call "Walmart," behavior and get rid of customers who aren't worth keeping around.

I will look around, but this leaves, me in a very unneeded stress situation, right before I am having surgery this summer. I don't deserve to be treated this way. The reprehensive from Erie Cooperate, I was talking to today, hung up on me. She didn't want to go over the dates premiums were due, and how much I paid. She did tell me some, but, it was like pulling teeth. I don't know why she was so hard to be upfront and forth coming with that information.

I don't need this stress. I just want things to be corrected, so I can keep moving and do other things, that should be more important to me right now.

Thank you.

Desired outcome: Reinstate my auto policy as before. I will pay the $200 + amount that is supposed to be due right now. Thank you.

Erie Insurance Group Auto insurance

I've been a customer for 25 years. My daughter was on my policy when she first got license. she had an accident 3 years ago and hit a deer last year. I kicked her off my policy and she got her own insurance last year after she hit the deer. Erie insurance cancelled my policy due to her accidents even though she isn't even on my policy anymore. Erie insurance has gone downhill and I won't be recommending them to anyone. THEY SUCK! They don't believe in loyalty anymore and don't care about long term customers!

My car had consider a lost by the adjuster name Valerie, she gave me instruction what would come next with addition of price quoted of the vehicle. the blue book value of the a 2008 Santa Fe 4,500, Erie want to give me $1,500 out of the value, due to accident of 2020. as many times I had spoke with them I am not settling with that price they push up to $1,900. Once again they mentioned they pay out of 2020 with tape on bumper is what they value the vehicle. As I keep them in mind & already directly informed to Valerie why my bumper have tape. Is not a call to make a decision over 2020 repair to consider a total loss.

Erie made out their service as to I am paying a loan. So as I am asking myself what reason Insurance value to their customer when we pay out rages of our self & family safety. To get ripped off where is the Fairness, Trust, Commitment & Loyalty. I email to Valerie(adjuster)Christine reg total lost of my vehicle, & try to get in touch to Mary Ann for medical. Erie Insurance Group Claim No. A00003675670

with my email to the Erie Rep/Agent, Nika Gull [protected]@erieinsurance.com , are attached the repeated fax transmissions and confirmations sent to Erie Insurance Group (Nika Gull) for the medical bills received resulting from the 10.15.2021 accident Claim no. A00003675670 referenced above. Of the the three-medical billings received beginning in Nov 2021, only the one bill, in the amount of $175 (Watauga Radiological Services - #128048) reports "PAID. The two-remaining billings; $324.10 and $2570.32, have also been previously faxed to Representative Nika Gull at Erie Insurance multiple times and now have been reported to collections by the respective providers. Call to Nika are never answered and a message cannot be left due to "mailbox is full and not accepting messages"!

Obviously the move to collections is punitive on my daughter's credit, if I do not receive communication and resolution of this matter by or before the close of business tomorrow, Friday, February 25, 2022, I will prosecute my claim for the the amount of the outstanding billings, costs of collection and damages against Erie Insurance Group.

I will look for your reply in kind,

Gregory J. Tigani

Desired outcome: payment in full of the outstanding medical billings and removal from the collection status

Erie Insurance Group homeowners insurance

I purchased a home in TN last april. I was very specific to my agent, who also handled 4 vehicles and my million dollar umbrella, to drop my deductible immediately after closing. She forgot. I am in the middle of a claim and she has flatly denied her error in not doing what I asked. She also went on to state, "buyer said she would call after closing." That is a LIE. I never said that, I instructed her, the AGENT to do a job, drop my deductible. I now have a possible claim and I cannot process it due to a 10,000 deductible and an agent flatly lying to get out of the potential accountability this would present to her and her firm. I also spoke with Battle, the worse conversation I think I have ever had, professionally, in my life. HE was insulting, rude and unprofessional. He immediately interrupted my story with, "HONEY" and at that point, the conversation was over. I have never felt such discrimination as a woman, single mom and homeowner. I know now if they admit their mistake, it would cost the agency and I believe that is why they are refusing to admit fault and turn it around on me. This is grossly negligent on their part. Furthermore, they refused to return a single call or email. I trusted Erie with my most prized possession and this is the result. I understand people make mistakes, however, how you handle the mistake is what counts. This is unacceptable.

Desired outcome: Admit they made a mistake. Admit I gave specific instruction to reduce my deductible after closing and look at this claim and allow my home to be repaired after storm damage!

Erie Insurance Group House insurance Claim

I live in a neighborhood that was hit hard in a big hail storm last year. Because of the damage, I had my roof replaced. I had to pay around $6,000+ out of my pocket to get the roof replaced I wa repeatedly told that all I had to due was submit a paid invoice and they would pay me for my out of pocket expenses. NOW THEY ARE SAYING I WAS ALREADY PAID AND REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME!

I contacted my agent {useless, I don't know what i pay him for) I've contacted Erie Insurance claims, but to no avail. I just want everyone to know that Erie Insurance can't be counted on when you really need them. We have been a policy holder for many years and they certainly don't appreciate customer loyalty.

Desired outcome: I want paid for my out of pocket expenses

I had Erie insurance since 2017 Never had an issue. Until March 10, 2022 I was taking my daughter to school & the fool in the opposite side was waiting to turn left, as I was about to pass him he decided to flor it full aggressive where my whole left side is completely pinch in & the car fling to the railing, toward the curb. my car was not in a condition to drive. Once I turn my head to see the driver he decided to drive off. Having the police report statement for the Insurance & some how drove what I could to take the car to my drive way. With the high adrenaline I wasn't aware the pain affect I & my daughter was in. thinking I would have full support with the Insurance, I am having the worst stress tension, anxiety, suffering with Migraine with the concussion & with the minor communication with the insurance. the value of my car is $4.500, as a total lost.. they are offering to give me $1.500 & figure they would raise it up to $1,900. with the sittuation I'm in *who here can buy a vehicle with that price? Erie is placing a judgment of an accident I had in 2020 that was repair, but the bumper had tape & it was explain to the adjuster name Valerie. She went on deduct the value of the car from 2020. which it has nothing to do with. This Insurance making me feel like I am asking for a loan of service. I can not settle of the amount less than 2,000, having to deal with this Insurance with the accident this critical had push my guard up. how can I trust an Insurance I am Paying massively of a price & "Erie make it out like it's coming out of their pockets". Where is the Trust!?

Erie Insurance Group Homeowners policy

In mid-February 2021, ice and snow had accumulated on the roof over the back of my house. The roof collapsed and ultimately the room structure and all contents were lost.
Snow & ice are very common covered perils, but the claim was denied after an engineer made another inspection. He reported faulty construction. That part of the house had been built in May 2019, I bought it in September 2020. It was inspected during the sale, it was inspected by Erie to issue the policy. When it was under construction it was inspected by the city and passed. When it was complete it was inspected by the city and passed for residential use. I fail to see any construction defect.
A significant part of my home is gone. Claim denied. Agent stopped answering my calls & email after the first two weeks.
Beware anti-concurrent policy language - it allows the insurance company to avoid paying almost any claims.

Erie Insurance Group $450.00 charge on my eriesecure policy

An adjuster from ErieSecure sent two men to my home to check my stove for replacement under my ErieSecure Home Policy. As fate would have it on the day that they came all of the burners lit and the stove came on so they advised me that I was not entitled to coverage for a new stove. They did no work etc of any kind on the stove just turned it on and said the stove was okay. The stove is old and does need replaced. I was talking to an Erie representative and she happened to mention that there was a charge of $450 on my ErieSecure account for the stove. They basically did nothing and I called the adjuster to complain and I have not had any response from him. Does it cost $450 to turn on a stove and deny replacement? The burners are still "leaking" gas and difficult to light. I can't believe that what they did costs $450. I think someone is trying to pull a fast one. Had I not called the Erie office with a question about my refrigerator I would never have known about the $450. Please advise. Frances Knight Erie Policy #Q58 6404081 P 167 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. [protected] I do not know the name of the company that the men were from.

Desired outcome: Correction to my ErieSecure account.

Erie Insurance Group The handling of a claim by Erie Agent Tom Chapman

Om May 18, 2021 there was a fire in the bldg next to mine. Your insured, Lauren Ballew, occupied my 3rd floor.. The firemen had to bust up the 3rd floor to battle the fire. Nothing in our bldg burned and there was no water dispensed on our property. Lauren called in her claim and was assigned Tom Chapman. Tom Chapman called me I believe 5/20 or 5/21 and asked if we would please hold off doing any clean up or movement of anything until he could finish the claim. He also said upon claim completion Erie would remove Lauren's belongings. After hearing nothing from anyone but the City of Pittsburgh asking why we are not moving on this, I called Lauren and then Ton Chapman. He informed me that Lauren was paid 20K for her claim and they deemed all of her belongings a loss and Erie is done with her. So this eaves me with her belongings which are not damaged at all. The only item in her apartment that is damaged is the box spring. There is no smoke damage to the couch, the dressers are clean as a whistle. Lauren removed all of her clothing and small items and put them in storage. You could literally eat out of the dresser drawers. I don't know or care what Mr. Chapman and Lauren decided was worth that much settlement. I only care about the fact that her belongings should be gone from there. I think it is very unprofessional on Mr Chapman's part to leave my property in this condition after asking me to wait for him and then not calling me to tell what was up and then to simply and disgustedly tell me he is done there. I am a hard worker and don't complain often but I refuse to be disrespected in this manner. I carry I look at Insurance as a safeguard, not a get rich quick scheme and I truly feel that Agent Chapman neglected his duty to the Erie Company.

Erie Insurance Group Car insurance

We have been with this company for a very long time. They keep raising prices for no reason. My wife and I just got the recent re new letter today along with a hefty price increase. Thank you Erie. Also, wife and I was involved in a auto accident last year, got sandwiched by a driver who didn't have insurance himself. Cut and dry claim. NOT OUR FAULT, although, it has taken almost a year to settle with a lawyer with these idiots. They keep wanting to drag their feet. I would NOT recommend this company at all. This isn't the first time they have raised our insurance for no reason. They can't blame our credit, it over 100 points higher than what it was when we started with them. They can't blame us for missed payments, we have never missed one. We got in touch with our agent, we are leaving Erie very soon. Stay away from these idiots.

Desired outcome: none

Erie Insurance Group Homeowners policy listed at incorrect address and issue with a hail claim

1. We purchased a home in sept 2019 the local erie agent i wst ky insurance murray ky. The correct address of our home is 759 robertson road south murray, ky. 42071. We remitted the insurance payment when we purchased the home. When the homeowners policy got processed in the erie system the address was listed as 701 robertson road south murray, ky. 42071. We never received any paperwork or notice of pending insurance premiums until our agent notified me in july 2020 that our homeowners was cancelled due to non payment. Our agent submitted a new homeowners policy to using the correct address and i remitted the payment in full for year. If the address had been correct orginally we would not had the non payment issue. I always pay my insurance payments on time.
The secong issue we have currently is we submitted a claim for roof shingle damage that is pending and the adjuster has reviewed all the information related to the claim and i have been notified that erie will not offer any claim reinbursement stating that the hail damage on the roof was documented having occured on april 28 2020. We have had other storms in 2020 that could have casued this damage in summary this claim decision is based on the fact the system shows we did not have isurance on the house in april but this is all part of the incorrect address that caued this issue. We need to get a response on this situation and the issue we are not satisfied with having erie insurance. My contact information is listed kent wisehart cell [protected] email [protected]@gmail.Com

Erie Insurance Group car insurance

November 12, 2019

ATTENTION: NC Consumer Department, claim department

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
The purpose of this letter is to file a complaint against Erie Insurance. My agent name is Rob Simpson, phone number 919 460-4473.
I am worried regarding the way Erie has been handling my insurance case. I have the car and house insurance with. On April 11 I was involved in a car accident that was not my fault. Someone had hit my car from behind while I was waiting for the red light to change while I was on my way to a doctor visits at Six Forks in Raleigh, NC. I called Erie to reported it, when I was asked what day the accident happened, I told the representative I was not sure about the day. She told me try to think about the closest day of the accident and I told her I think the accident occurred on April 5. I tried to communicate with them several times to find out the outcome of the case but when I spoke with the Adjuster Rene Crider she told me she needed to closes the case. Mrs. Crider told me there was conflictive information on what I had reported and the report she was reading. She explained me the report she was reading described an accident that happened at a parking lot in the mall. She instructed me to call the claim department again and fill out another claim with the correct day of the accident and describe the incident to them again. I called the claim department again to report the accident, I told them the correct day when the incident happened. I was assigned a new adjuster name Melissa Fraser. I left numerous messages for Melissa Fraser regarding the case. She did not communicate with me excepting one day on October when she called me, and we were disconnected. I left her several messages; however, Melissa Fraser is a machine because she never answered my messages again. Then, I received a letter she would close my case if I did not contact them, but she never called me back in spite I left numerous messages for her to contact me. The person insurance (AAA) who hit my car had contacted me by letter stating if I do not communicate with them in 10 days they would close the case. I am unsure what I should tell them now knowing Erie insurance had made this process so complicated not providing guidance and not responding to my messages.

On September 3, 2019 my son Jonathan Pena, who is in our car insurance poliza was involved in a car accident. I did fill out another claim on his name but by my surprised I found out his car did not had the full coverage that I asked for when I registered the car on his name; however they were charging us full cover for a car my husband trade in 3 three or 4 moths prior to buying my son car insurance. I did report to Erie my husband had trade the Honda Accord Sedan 2008 for a Chevy Equinox however they were charging us for all four car. I spoke with my agent and they gave me a reimbursement for the 3 months they had charged me for the Honda Accord. I am unsure if they reimburse me all the money, they had to reimbursed me about $250. My agent Rob Simpson tried to negotiate with Erie to have my son full coverage reinstated from the day we bought his car however it was expensive to have to pay for the poliza and assume responsibility to fix the car.

On 10.20.2019 my husband was cutting branches at home and he felt from a ladder. I called the insurance requesting to have a copy of the house poliza to find out if the cover accidental fall from home.
The situation with the accident I was involved on April 11, 2019 had not been solved in spite I had tried to be solved it several times. Also, Erie had not sent me a copy of my house poliza.
I am unsure what other steps should it take to have this matter solved with Erie insurance. It is the reason I am recurring to you agency to fill out this complain.

If you need further assistance you could contact me at [protected].

Sincerely,

Maria L. Pena

Erie Insurance Group car insurance/unauthorized charges

I am very unsatisfied with how a company can change my policy without knowing anything about my household. And add someone to a policy because they assume something without knowing the facts. I think it is very unfair for Erie Insurance to send someone a bill for $1400 and expect someone to pay that monthly without my signature or me agreeing to accept a change to policy & most importantly without knowing my financial ability to pay. Everyone has the right to shop around for insurance not just accept any change made to their policy.
