I brought a cheap Lenovo with McAfee installed for travelling. After 1 month I paid about $68 for 1 year. It slowed my computer down and had pop ups galore so I un-installed it in the first couple of months.
A year later I get an email saying $205 has been paid to McAfee to renew my subscription. I logged on to Mcafee to see automatic renewal is set by default (I did not set it) and they had added other products (e.g. VPN) without my consent for the so-called 'renewal'.
I therefore sought a refund via Facebook and then online chat on their website. I explained as I was travelling overseas I did not want to talk on the phone I just wanted a refund. They insisted on telephone. After many chat messages they phoned me. They kept we on hold while transferring me and tried very hard to resell me the product for about 30 minutes in total incurring $50 in global roaming telephone service fees i have to pay.
Their renewal and refund policies are worse than the scammers. I will never but a product with McAfee installed and my advice to everyone is stay away.

Desired outcome: I explained I was overseas and preferred not to talk on the phone. They insisted we tall on the phone. During an online chat they phoned me and I get a $50 bill.
