I bought an Indoor/Outdoor rated Harbor Breeze, Key West, ceiling fan last in September 2006. This ceiling fan is over our spa, securely installed over a lattice patio cover (with Plexiglas over the top protecting the fan from water from the elements. We had some recent winds and several of the fan blades snapped off and cut my spa cover in several places. As well as 4 out of the 5 fan arms either bent, twisted and 1 even split 2/3 if the length down the arm.

I have searched and searched for replacement arms, decorative outdoor replacement blades; they apparently do not coexist. I have tried looking for a Harbor Breeze web site, nothing. I looked on Lowes web site and at several stores. I have given in up hope of finding the same finish as the fan I have (brushed/antique pewter), and have considered spray painting new arms, but there are no arms to fit decorative outdoor blades.

I am frustrated that I spent $180 on this fan and my only choice would be to buy a new one? Why by a new one when even though this fan is rated Indoor/Outdoor it held up very poorly. The blades shouldn't have snapped off, and the arms shouldn't have bent or split.

I need some help.

No problem. I called them today and was told they are not the only manufacturer for Harbor Breeze fans. Apparently Lowes buys fans from multiple companies and re brands them. So, Litex was not the company that made my fan. I was told it could have been made by a company called MSG (no clue, can't find any info online about them).

I called MSG -- [protected] -- as well today and they said they may or may not have made my fan. This is such a fun process! They asked me to email them some pics of the fan and they would compare the pics to their catalogs. I am now waiting for a response. Wish me luck!

I'll post again with any updates.

you know whats funny, when we go and buy some thing, we all know there is a chance of it not working or it breaking, thats life thats why there is a warranty hello people what do you think a warrenty is for, looks..lol...they company pays to fix it then fix it and stop cring like babies... not tring to be mean but you get what you pay for, i personaly like this brand i didnt get mine from some hardware store funny thing i went to the goodwill a second hand store, it was brand new still in box never opened i payed 9.99 for it now if i bought it from a hardware strore i would have payed any were from 150 to 200 im not complaining like all of you people... im thank full . can you say the same for your selfs?

OK sonjakeesee, let's see here... where to start on your ###ic ramblings. Hmmm. First, you obviously never passed an English class in your life as you have no grammar skills whatsoever. Second, we're not crying like babies. Try actually reading the blog before making yourself look like an idiot. We are on here because we can't find the actual company that made the fans so we can get warranty work done on them. Third, why are you bragging about getting your fan from Goodwill? All that says is that you paid for something the rest of us got rid of. Good luck when your $10 fan that someone didn't want breaks down on you. Guess what? The warranty is voided when bought at a secondhand store. Oh darn.

I will say this though. I am "thank full" that you posted your ###ed comments because you have just provided me with enough laughs for the rest of the week. Thank you!

Sonjakeese - I am thankful for many things in life. I am thankful that I received an education. I am thankful that I know how to spell. I am thankful that I have worked hard enough in life so that I can afford to buy an $80.00 fan. I am thankful for people who entertain me by making ### of themselves. Maybe you should go back to the goodwill store and purchase a dictionary. Then you could learn how to spell while sitting under your fan. Let me put it in a way you can better understand: "You need sum lern'n"...LOL

I bought a Harbor Breeze fan 3 weeks ago. I put it in properly and it works great. The only problem is, the light goes on automatically in the wee hours of the nightwaking us because it's above our bed. I had an electrician look at it and he said everything looked good, it's probably the wireless remote that operates the motor in the fan. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to try putting the remote in the drawer and see what happens. At first I thought it only happened while the fan was running, but then it did the same thing while the fan was off. It's freaky!

I purchased 2 52" Harbor Breeze Moonglow Ceiling fans nearly 6 years ago and had a handy friend install them for me - one in the dining room and one in my bedroom. Both have worked PERFECTLY. The motors are NOT noisy, even at the high speeds. The only complaint I have is that getting into the tiny panels to replace the "moonglow" bulbs isn't very easy - but I've only had to do it a few times.

We purchased a new home two years ago. Every room (5) have fans with lights attached in them, three with remotes. All the fans are very quiet however, the one in the living room with a light and with a remote keeps turning on by its self...Very odd that a light would just come on all by its self.

One of the fans just stopped working the other day, then as odd as it may seem it started to work again and smoking; it has a remote too.

I cannot find a serial # or model # to see if there have been any recalls on these fans...Does anyone know if there have been any kind of recall on these Harbor Breeze fans?

We spent $160 on a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan about a year and a half ago and now the light works only if the fan is turned on high. We called the manufacturer who claims they do not make the remote any longer. What a waste of money. Very disappointed in this product.

We bought two Harbor Breeze fans a year ago and both make a "tick-tick" noise with each revolution. The housing is not rubbing. and I've lubricated all moving parts. No help whatsoever. I'm trashing both fans.

As a wise man said (and I keep forgetting): "It only costs a little less to go first class."

We purchased two Harbor Breeze 48" Brushed Nickel Elite Ceiling Fans from Lowes. The first one caught fire, melting the other wires and other one began melting Motor Capacitor CBB61 which I believe is the problem. Because I do not have the receipt Lowes will not take them back (yet) nor have I been able to find or contact Harbor Breeze (or Litex). Has anyone had any success in contacting them Harbor Breeze (or Litex)? Tom M

I can't comment on how well my new Harbor Breeze fan works because one very small "motor screw" was missing so the fan is
just sitting partially installed. I called the company and was told
the part would be shipped right out. Ten days later and no motor
screw yet. I called again today and was told it shipped yesterday. I consider this extremely poor customer service. If the fan was not
already put together and partially installed I would take it back.

I will never buy this brand again and will not recommend it to any of my friends or family.

Thank you Brian! I have a fan about 4 months old in my bedroom. I was making the bed one day and when I snapped the sheet to put it on the bed, the chain got caught in the sheet and snapped out. I took the light kit apart for further inspection and a plastic piece had broken. It took me a while to find this site and I was also trying to locate my receipt. I called the number you posted even though I had not found the receipt yet and to my surprise, a brief explanation of the problem led to the CSR saying "ok you're saying you need a new light kit?" and I said yes, that would solve the problem. He took my address and no more than 2 minutes after the call was made, the order for the new light kit was entered and will be shipped to my house. (I did find the model # on the Lowe's website before I called) Just wanted to tell everyone how easy it is to get help once someone posts the elusive website. It will probably be harder to get some type of restitution with the sparking / burning problems but I just wanted to let you guys know how it went for me. Good Luck and this will probably be my last Harbor Breeze because of the electrical faults that many of you are having.

i used to have a hampton bay landmark 3 in my room, and it was so noisy, i removed it after a month and i got a casablanca, and it works beautifully

We have a HarborBreeze ceiling fan that we installed 3 years ago, and we are taking it down to replace it with something "Safer". It was installed in my 3 year olds room and one day the fan decided to start smoking and stop working. It was probably the cheapest model they have, between 30 and 40 dollars on sale, but you would think it would last longer than 3 years.

I bought just had a new Harbor Breeze fan installed 2 days ago, and already the remote doesn't work. Unfortunately, it's Lowe's own brand. Interesting to see how many others have the same problem. If I get no satisfaction it will be Home Depot from now on.

I just purchased a Baja '52 big blades fan for my master bedroom as I have vaulted ceilings and want to downrod it. I needed light kit. With all, about $230. I love the look it will provide me. I haven't even found a more expensive fan that I like better. Really. And three other rooms have Hunter only because I liked the look of those particular fans for each room. I am truly form over function. But now I am terrified to keep and install it after reading all of the comments here, mostly the smoke, sparks, and fire ones. Why would they sell something with a motor that will burn out in 2 years ? I see very few good comments here.

I have purchased many light fans in my 40 years of being a landlady and never have had as many problems with a product as with Harbor Breeze ceiling light fan. IF they have a website they keep it hidden. The ceiling fan no longer works on high and started to smoke one day out of the blue and it was purchased in October of 2005. Does anyone know the website. By the way, I am a fourth generation landlord and will never buy another HARBOR BREEZE as I purchase items that are low maintenance, very high quality and that will last. HARBOR BREEZE is probably not a good quality product nor accountable to a customer base.

wills and emils problem - it sounds like the fan is picking up the frequency from somewhere else, mabye a neighbor with the same remote or model of fan, to fix this you need to adjust the frequency

genzys problem, it sounds like the fan was not properly grounded, and mabye a loose wire is touching the switch cover

Just installed the Harber Breeze and the remote does not work. From what I have been reading, its coming down and I am going to Home Depot. Never liked Lowes any way.

I recently installed a 52 in Harbor Breeze, when I flip the switch it comes on but I cannot control any functions with the remote. I know the remote is good because I have tested it on another fan in the house and hit has no problems controlling it. I have already cycled the switches on the receiver a number of times now thinking one may be stuck, but have had no luck.

Beautiful style. Unfortunately, whoever "engineered" the fan is an idiot. I've installed many Hampton Bay fans (my fav) and a few Hunter (not so bad). Putting the Harbor Breeze fan up was like doing rocket since in the middle of my bedroom. Try to get the first part of the light fixture holder on took my wife and I 30 minutes of trying to shove too many wires into a little space and at the same time lining up this small hole with a screw hole, then using an extra-short screw to attach. I was five minutes away from just ripping the thing down and throwing it at the Lowe's customer service. Oh, and to top it all off, out of the five fans I've installed this is the only one that wobbles wildly on the high setting.

It probably didn't help that it was an outdoor rated fan but give me a break!

I just bought one at Lowes. I had to return two of them because of obvious problems like marks and mars. Straight from the factory. We opened a few box's there if front of the people at Lowes and they saw how all of them had problems.
We mixed parts together until we came up with one fan. I went through the Hell of putting it up and the blade rubs the motor housing. I am currently trying to distort the housing so it will not rub. I can't believe these people charge almost two hundred dollars for this poor, horrible workmanship.
It kind of reminds me of a Dodge. They look sooooo good and then they have all kinds of transmission, upper ball joint, etc. problems. Anyway I think I am going to go through the hell of owning this fan cause my better half loves the way it looks.

I called the people at Harboour Breeze, and they told me (concerning the fan remotes not working)
that all I could do would be to buy new remotes. When I asked "what if
those' went bad, the girl simply laughed and said, "look mister, all I can say is...buy some more!"
I was greeted with rudeness and apparently Harbour Breeze made some defective remotes and
there is simply nothing that can done about it. My suggestion? Well I need to buy 6 more ceiling
fans, and I would NOT recommend Harbour Breeze to ANYONE.

The quality of the Litex, TX distributed fans vary considerably depending on the Chinese monkey who assembled it for her slave wages. Some will be great and quiet straight out of the box, others will be a never-ending nightmare. If you think you got a nightmare, get Lowes to replace it ASAP before the model goes discontinued. Most of the replacement fan blades are still available through Lowes using the long model number, as are replacement capacitors, fan speed controllers etc. I have 2 fans; one is a blessing, the other is a nightmare that I persevere with cos I bought it cheap discontinued, and without a job, my time screwing around with it is cheaper than a new fan.

Of course if Obama grew some balls and shut down offshore outsourcing, I'd have a job, you'd have a fan you could use for 15+ years and never ever have to worry about, but it would initially cost you twice as much. That's the deal.

I have had five Harbor Breeze fans all of which are poor quality. Three came with our new house and I added a fourth. One failed at 1 year (“Burned” up fan control module). I tried to find replacement part with no luck. Bought a replacement and after it was installed the light had a delay when coming on and would cycle off and on throughout the day. The culprit was an electronic module wired in line with the light kit.
I have two major concerns;
1. The low quality isn’t limited to mechanical; the electrical is sub-standard as well which can be dangerous.
2. Absolutely no support or spare parts available.
Save yourself some trouble and buy a higher quality fan. Sometimes cheap is just that… cheap.
Installed last two fans myself and I have a degree in electronics and 25 years experience in maintenance and worked the last 9 years programming and maintaining Robots, PLC, AC drives, etc... Point being, I’m somewhat qualified to install, troubleshoot and evaluate the quality of ceiling fans.

I am having a similar problem to many of the people above as well. Our fan/light was working fine since we installed it this past fall and all of a sudden a week or so again the lights stopped working on the unit. I took the fan down and disconnected the remote unit and re-hooked the fan directly to the power cords. The fan motor worked just fine, but the lights will not turn on. Does anyone have any suggestions or have you run into this issue and been able to fix it?

I bought one of these a few years ago. As far as I know the fan motor is still fine, but I've gone through two remotes already and am getting ready to buy a third. Thinking of giving that cool one with the digital readout a try. With any luck it won't die. The most annoying part is I didn't cheap out on the fan, it was actually one of the more expensive models that just happened to look the coolest. Thanks China, you suck at electronics.

I have the same problem with my harbor breeze fan. It sounds like its time for Habor Breeze to receive a law suit they know they are selling defective remotes and riping people of with not only the remotes but the prices themselve. They could have atleast put on a back up on of switch for the lights and the fans just like the traditional fans.

I have 5 ceiling fans in total, however I have 3 of the same harbor breeze Saratoga fans. While the kick out an awesome breeze they are by far thy noisiest cackling fans ever! For the prize I expected breeze and a peace of mind, but they are like a nosey set of neighbors :(

Our harbor breeze fan was serviced today (or tried to be anyways). The technician couldn't even fix it so that the speeds work properly. He could make it run on low or high only-- one or the other! What a piece of crap fan! Not to mention how loud it is and the fact that the pull chain goes through the glass making it easy to break off. Never purchase this type of fan!

Bought my first and last Harbor Breeze. Installed yesterday and seemed to work fine, except for a little noise from something rubbing inside...easy enough to fix. My problem is that the light module decided to go up in flames today. Thank goodness I was right there or we may be out on the street due to having our house burn down! Should have known, buy cheap, get in deep! Thanks harbor breeze!

We have three Harbor Breeze fans in our vacation condo, installed by the builder. In the middle of the night, even though the fan was off, a fan arm broke and sheared off and the fan blade and sharp edge of arm fell on to our coffee table, digging a large gash in table surface. I'm just glad that it happened at night with fan off instead of flying off while the fan was on and my four year old may have been playing in the room. I assumed it would be easy to replace the arm but I am unable to find the exact match on the Internet and they don't have it at Lowe's. Lesson learned...the hard way.

My remote has stopped working also...(again) This will be the fourth time I have bought one! We have disconnected the unit from the ceiling, re-installed it and the remote still does not work. I think it is time Harbour Breeze sends me a new one and Lowe's should just not carry them anymore. I refuse to shop at the Home Depot. Maybe I just need to stop buying Harbour Breeze products.

We've had the same problem with the remote not working. This is certainly an issue that needs to be addressed by Harbor Breeze and Lowes.

Our Harbor Breeze fan lights are blinking and we will have to remove the capacitor ( follow instructions on YouTube). Tons of people reporting the same problem. No more HB for us!

I purchased a Harbor Breeze 52" Rutherford Walnut Ceiling Fan
(Model #: E HS52BCW5C1L) 2 days ago. I have installed many ceiling fans and found putting the parts together to be an awkward process. The design seems to be flawed in that there was limited room available in attaching the blade holders to the motor frame. The brown colored finish of the unit is highly touchy during the installation process. Despite using great care in attaching the parts, scratch-like marks were observed on the metal finish. The unit was noisy and had a wobble that could not be completely resolved. The light kit was securely attached but swayed from the housing when the fan was operated. The worst problem with this product will now be explained. When starting the fan from a completely stopped position, a humming noise is heard but the motor will not move the fan blades. By slowly spinning the blades during the hum stage in a clock-wise manner, the motor will eventually move the blades. I momentarily terminated the fan's operation and then quickly (before the blades completely stopped moving) restored power. This test resulted in the motor moving blades. Manually assisting the spinning process was not required. I suspect that the motor is defective. The good news is that all of these problems immediately surfaced and I expect to return the unit today. If the motor had failed a few months into usage, I may have encountered some difficulty with the store accepting the fan a return.

We have 5 of the Harbor Breeze fans but only 3 of the acorn lights to go with them. We were only able to get them as we found them. is there anyway to get the last 2 acorn lights for them.

Harbor Breeze is the "Lowe's" name. Manufacturer could be Litex [protected], or MSG [protected]. My fan was MSG and they sent replacement parts to my home. I had a cracked fan blade.

I bought two Harbor Breeze fans three weeks ago and put them in my children's rooms. The fans worked great and the kids loved having new fans that put out a lot more air than the old one, however after only two weeks of running the fan in my daughter's room had two blades separate at one time. The first blade struck her wall and left a large dent in the shape of the blade tip and the other bounced off her dresser and then hit the wall. I have search every where for a contact number to call and ask about this problem but the only contact information I have found leads to an email address that is no longer open. I am upset over the dent in my wall but thankful my child was not in her room at the time. If anyone else has had these type problems please post them. I am not sure if I want the replacement fan Lowes offered in my house.
