Lowe's - Fence installation

I have spent the last 11 months in contact with their corporate offices to have my fence properly installed. Installation contractors are not licensed. Their work was shoddy at best. I will have to pay, out of pocket, to have a reputable company complete my install.

I have spoken to Lowe's corporate almost weekly since July 6th 2022.

I have gotten a different representative each time. Each one had no idea what the issues were or what the previous representative had told me. Each one gave me the run-around.

My original contractors made a huge mess - they left huge piles of dirt around every post hole. They spread the rest of the dirt all over my yard. It has been a muddy nightmare ever since. I, myself, hauled 6 wheelbarrows full of dirt to be disposed. The fence was to be installed on the outside of the tree in my yard - to align with the pins for my property that the city had marked for them.

They decided that they did not want to cut the limbs on the tree, so they installed the fence 2 feet on the inside of the tree. That was a significant amount of yard that I lost. The fence was not level or straight. The gate would not latch as they had made the gate too wide and every time that I opened it the weight of the gate would make it fall thus making it impossible to latch.

I have steps that extend from my 2nd floor deck. They did not install any fencing around the steps. That area was left wide-open, thus allowing my dogs to walk right out. I bought a fence so that my dogs could use the yard. That was not possible. To this day that area is still not fenced. I purchased lattice as a temporary 'fix' to keep dogs contained until the install could be completed.

I have 6 different heights of fencing in one area - it was so crooked that even the neighborhood kids mentioned it.

The list goes on with issues that I have dealt with.

After 7 months of dealing with corporate - the district manager finally came to my property to inspect the fence. At that time, he agreed with the issues that I was having and assured me that another contractor would make the repairs.

It took 2 more months of calling corporate once a week, to have the contractor show up. Several of the issues were addressed - however - they still did not install the fencing around my steps - However - they had the materials to complete the steps and offered to leave the materials so that I could have someone else complete the install.

I, again, was in touch w corporate. I had contracted for 157LF and received 120LF. I still had areas not fenced in and the fence was still in the wrong place. They eventually offered me $1000 compensation for my time and $597 credit for the work not completed. I was sent a form to sign - a confidentiality form stating that I would not discuss these issues and I would remove any negative reviews on-line or social media.

Prior to receiving this form-

I had left a review with the BBB. Within 24 hours an Executive Customer Service rep reached out to me to try and resolve the issues. She was not aware of anything that had transpired the previous 8 months. (not sure where my files were as she obviously did not read them) She got a little bit of information and after 2 weeks told me that Lowe's had sent me a credit of $295 to my credit card. No explanation what it was for - it was certainly not what they had offered me. It was certainly not the amount that they owed me for fencing contracted for and not received. They refused to offer any explanation. It was obvious that she did the bare minimum so that she could respond to the BBB stating that they had resolved the issue. The issues have not been resolved anymore now then before she got involved.

Please pay a little extra to have a licensed and insured contractor do your fencing! It will save you the 11+ months that I have been dealing with Lowe's.

This has caused so much stress, frustration and aggravation to me that I will never go into a Lowe's for anything again. Thankfully Home Depot is right across the street. Wishing that I had never contracted with Lowe's and that they would come and remove it all and refund my money. What a nightmare that never seems to end...
