I had two very old gift cards on my account, one for $3 and one for $1.87. They were combined into one which left me with $4.87. On 10/19/23 I added a GC I had received for $15 to the account. On 11/30/23 I went into Starbucks to make a purchase and the app kept giving me an error while I was trying to pay with the gift cards. I used my CC, paid for the drink and left. Later I realized that both the $15 and $4.87 GC were $0 and closed. I called that same day and waited for over an hour and eventually someone called me back the next day. The supervisor said the funds were reversed to the credit card that purchased the gift card due to fraudulent activity. He said I would need to go back to the person that bought the card, which happens to be my employer, a large corporation with thousands of employees that issued thousands of gift cards. He said the purchaser of the gift card disputed the purchase, which is utterly ridiculous.

I asked to speak with the supervisor’s manager and he transferred me. The manager repeated what the supervisor said and and said the gift card was closed on the same it was added to the app 10/19/23. However, any credibility he thought he had went out the window when I asked what happened to the other $4.87, which was from two separate residual cards that may been used long ago. He said they were closed on the same day as the $15 and sent back to the purchaser, who happens to be me. That totally debunks the ridiculous explanation of what happened to the $15. I don’t have any credits on my credit card for the $4.87. When I called him out on how ridiculous it is that he is saying that, he stuck to his guns and said I need to follow up with my bank.

The gift cards refresh, and as of 11/14/23 both of my cards had $15 and $4.87 which I have a screenshot of. This needs to be corrected because somehow my gift cards were drained and cards closed.

Claimed loss: $19.87

Desired outcome: Would like $19.87 back into my account.

Starbucks contacted me to let me know that the cards were closed in error and they have reversed it.
